# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 9
——————————————————–
Welcome all to the nineth article in this series. In the previous eight posts we have seen songs sung by different singers for Junior Mehmood during late sixtees and early seventees when he was a ‘superstar child sensation’.
The eight songs that we listened earlier were sung by Mohd Rafi(four songs), Lata Mangeshkar(one), Hemlata(one), Shanti Mathur(one) and Asha Bhonsle(one).
Tis series began by exploring songs sung by Rafi Saab for Junior Mehmood when he was ‘child artist and still growing’. Simultaneously we also looked at songs sung by female singers for Junior Mehmood as a ‘child artist’.
It would be interesting to know if there is any song hich as sung by Junior Mehmood for himself. (I am not sure, knowledgeable readers can enlighten us).
Today’s song is one such song, not a full song though, but having few lines sung by Junior Mehmood. In this song he is performing with Manoj Kumar, Nutan, Mohan Choti, Birbal and others.
This song is from the ‘1970’ movie ‘Yaadgaar’.
‘Yaadgaar-1970’ was directed by S. Ram Sharma for ‘Kunal Chitra, Bombay’. It had Nutan, Manoj Kumar, Pran, Prem Chopra, Kamini Kaushal, Junior Mehmood, Madan Puri, Tiwari, Mohan Choti, Lalita Chatterjee, Asit Sen, Lakshmi Chhaya, Shammi, Man Mohan, Polsan, Jayshree, Kuljeet, Renu, Raj Kishore, Harbans Pape, Kirti Behl, Manohar, Naidu, Birbal, Hansraj, Shrinath, Mohan Shery, Dubey, Sabina, Manohar Gosvai, Kesho Rana, Brahm Bharadwaj, Sobti, Alija, Genius, Darshan M., Ravikant, Chandra, Mohan Chhotu, Narbada Shankar, Ramlal and others.
This movie had six songs written by Indeevar and Verma Malik (three songs each).
(One song ‘ik taaraa boley’ is in two parts and it is considered as two songs).
Here is the list of songs of this movie as given in HFGK Vol- IV (1961-1970),
SNo | Song Title | Singer/s | Posted On |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Ik taaraa boley tun tun, kya kahe ye tumse sun sun (Part-I) | Mahendra Kapoor | 13.04.2009 |
02 | Aaye jahaan bhagwaan se pahle… wo khet mein milegaa | Mahendra Kapoor | 13.04.2019 |
03 | Jis ghar mein daaku chor chhupe… Ik taaraa boley tun tun (Part-II) | Mahendra Kapoor | 13.04.2009 |

05 | Boli saawan ki raat badi paawan hai raat… Hamne dekhi hai honewaali bhabhi | Mahendra Kapoor, Nutan, Manhar, Jr Mehmood, Birbal, | Being discussed today |
06 | Jis path pe chalaa us path pe mujhe aanchal to bichhaane de… mujhe saath to aane de | Lata Mangeshkar | 28.11.2011 |
Music for this film was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.
As we can see fromthe above table, four songs (including one multiple version song) from this movie have been posted on the blog.
Today’s song is the fifth song of this movie ‘Yaadgaar-1970’ to be posted here on the blog. This will take the movie within striking distance from ‘Yippeeee-land’.
Let us now listen to today’s song.
The situation of the song is self-explanatory. On screen is performed by Manoj Kumar, Nutan, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Junior Mehmood and Kuljeet (I guess the actor lip syncing for Manhar’s voice).
Mahendra Kapoor, Manhar Udhas, Nutan, Junior Mehmood and Birbal have given their voices in this song.
Lyrics are by Verma Malik and music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.
Over to the song now …

4th June today.
And the day today, amongst other celebrations, is the birth anniversary of Nutan, the eminent and the most charming leading lady of the Hindi cinema.
Just the name clicks off a series of memories – memories of remarkable and brilliant assays portrayed on screen. The quintessential woman in the Indian milieu – more traditional and motherly, and yes, frisky and romantic too. Forever, the image remains in the mind of the timid, near helpless Kalyani of ‘Bandini’ (1962) – resigned to her fate, but then also driven to an extreme emotion that ends up quenching a human life.
She is the Gauri of ‘Seema’ (1955) – once again a timid girl from a poor family, so conscious of her social standing that she bears all insults, till she will breakdown into a madcap fit of anger and destroy a room while humming “Manmohana Bade Jhhothe. . .”. In the same breath, she is the frisky Jameela of ‘Dil Hi To Hai’ (1963) and the animated presentation of “Parda Uthe Salaam Ho Jaaye”. She would be Radha in ‘Khandaan’ (1965) crooning “Tumhin Mere Mandir. . .” to a handicapped husband, or the Bhavna of ‘Yaadgaar’ (1970) telling her beloved “. . .Saathi Na Samajh, Koi Baat Nahin, Mujhe Saath To Aane De. . .”, or even as Kumud, doing a very traditional garba dance, singing “Main To Bhool Chali Babul Ka Des. . .” in ‘Saraswatichandra’ (1966), and even as the simpleton widowed Mahjabeen, singing “Tera Mera Saath Rahe. . .” to her new and younger husband, unaware of the game of deceit she is caught in (‘Saudaagar’, 1973).
And in the midst of all she is also playing Sulekha with the song “Ye Tanhaai Hai Re Hai, Jaane Phir Aaye Na Aaye. . .” (‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’, 1963), and also the innocent sounding Shanti telling her beloved “Chhod Do Aanchal Zamaana Kya Kahega. . .” (‘Paying Guest’, 1957), or the pure and simple Pushpa singing “Chupke Se Miley Pyaase Pyaase. . .” (‘Manzil’, 1960), and even the very naughty “C A T Cat, Cat Maane Billi. . .” as Asha in ‘Dilli Ka Thug’ (1958), or even asking her beau “Sach Bata Tu Mujh Pe Fida. . .” in ‘Sone Ki Chidiya’ (1958), and then telling her saheli “Haaye Unki Wo Nigaahen. . .” in ‘Aakhri Daao’ (1958). She is the Laila in ‘Laila Majnu’(1954) and is the Heer in ‘Heer’ (1956), the unfortunate Princess of ‘Shabaab’ (1954) with no happiness writ in her life. She is the Radha of ‘Milan’ (1967) and the Aarti of ‘Anari’ (1959), the unfortunate and the dispossessed Shanti of ‘Chhalia’, the proud first wife Sanjukta in ‘Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki’ (1978), Nirmala of ‘Dulhan Ek Raat Ki’ (1967), as also the misled Ashoo in ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya’ (1966). She is Anu, the broken sorrowful mother of a fatally ill child in ‘Anuraag’ (1971), the lovelorn and misunderstood Shanno in ‘Kanhaiya’ (1959), and the shunned and outcast untouchable in ‘Sujata’ (1959).
And in the midst of all this, she also is ‘Chhabili’ singing for herself – “Ae Mere Humsafar. . .”. Oh how I wish this film was available – would have loved to see the presentation of this song assayed by her. Nutan sang as many as six songs in this film – 2 solos and 4 duets. Presumably so, all the songs would be pictuized on herself. Surely a film truly worth pining for. 🙂
Four decades, over 70 films and a record 5+1 Filmfare awards for her portrayals – a record that stands in her name till now.
The song being presented today is a duet with Geeta Dutt. From the sounds of it, it is quite a playful and lively song. The words for this song are from the pen of S Ratan, and the music is by Snehal Bhatkar.
Enjoy this lovely rendition, Nutan – singing for herself.
Song – Yaaro. . . Kisi Se Na Kehna (Chhabili) (1960) Singer – Nutan, Geeta Dutt, Lyrics – S Ratan, MD – Snehal Bhatkar

Lyrics
yaaro. . . oo..oo
kisi se na kehna
hai chhup chhup ke rehna
ho yaaro..oo
kisi se na kehna
hai chhup chhup ke rehna
main chori chori
chori chori aaya hoon
musibat na ban’na
yaaro. . . oo..oo
kisi se na kehna
hai chhup chhup ke rehna
main chori chori
chori chori aaya hoon
musibat na ban’na
yaaro. . . oo..oo
milun jo main kisi se
nazar ka hoon dhokha
raahen meri hain band
raahen meri hain band
par kisi ne nahin roka
main chori chori
milun jo main kisi se
nazar ka hoon dhokha
raahen meri hain band
par kisi ne nahin roka
main chori chori
chori chori aaya hoon
musibat na ban’na
yaaro. . . oo..oo
mujh ko hai zara shubha
mujh ko hai zara yakeen
jhoomta hai aasmaan
jhoomta hai aasmaan..aa..aan
ya jhoomti hai ye zameen
kaun hosh mein wahaan
hum bhi nashe mein yahaan
talaash kar rahi nazar
pila gaya wo hai kahaan
talaash kar rahi nazar
pila gaya wo hai kahaan
koi
na jaane
main kahaan
chhup chhup
jo main rahoon
yahaan
poochhe
jo koi main kahaan
naa naa
kisi se kehna
yaaro. . . oo..oo
kisi se na kehna
hai chhup chhup ke rehna
ho yaaro..oo
kisi se na kehna
hai chhup chhup ke rehna
main chori chori
chori chori aaya hoon
musibat na ban’na
yaaro. . . oo..oo

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 23
—————————————————————————
I could not send any write-up from my side on Sahir Ludhianvi’s birth anniversary this year on 08th March. However, I had shared few songs and had compiled an excel sheet on Sahir Ludhianvi’s filmography with the respective music directors, which I intend to use for future posts on the blog as and when possible.
While noting down the movies and number of songs from each movie, I came across the today’s songs or rather this ‘couplet recitation’ song from the movie ‘Dil Hi Toh Hai’ (1963). This song has been mentioned in the list of songs by Sahir Ludhianvi in Akshay Manwani’s book ‘Sahir Ludhianvi – The People’s Poet’. HFGK Vol IV (1961-1970) though does not mention this song in the list of songs under this movie. HFGK mentions ten songs in the movie which have already been posted on the blog.
When I searched for the audio/video of this extra song mentioned in Akshay Manwani’s book it was already available. So, we have an opportunity to bring this ‘couplet recitation’ on the blog today under ‘Blog ten-year challenge’ (since one song from this movie was posted on the blog on 23.04.2010). As this movie has already been ‘Yippeeee’ed’ on the blog the today’s song comes as ‘bonus’ for all of us to listen and enjoy.
I am presenting this beautiful song here which is lip synced on screen by the beautiful Nutan. In the movie this song happens just before the song ‘Tum Agar Mujhko Naa Chaaho To Koi Baat Nahin’ or rather it is after this ‘teasing’ song of today by the heroine Jamila Bano (Nutan), that the hero Chand Sahab of the movie (Raj Kapoor) gets ‘provoked’ (or inspired ? 😉) to sing ‘tum agar mujhko naa chaaho’…
The situation is that Jamila Bano is a great fan of singer Chand Sahab but she had not met him and there is a party on the birth anniversary of her friend Pushpa where Chand Sahab is suppose to attend the party. However, incidentally they both came across in shop where they intend to buy the ‘birthday gift’. Jamila Bano and her ‘sahelis’, unaware of who this fellow is misake Chand Sahab for a ‘loafer’ (badmaash, peechhaa karne waala😊 ) and when they see the same fellow also following them at the party venue, and when her friends ask Jamila Bano to say something, she recites this she’r directed at Chand Sahab. After this when Chand Sahab is invited to sing Jamila Bano is surprised but Chand Sahab also took this opportunity and he sings
tum agar mujhko naa chaaho to koi baat nahin,
tum kisi aur ko chaahogi to mushqil hogi 😊
‘Dil Hi To Hai’ was jointly directed by PL Santoshi and CL Rawal for ‘Rawal Films’, Bombay. It was produced by BL Rawal. It had Raj Kapoor, Nutan, Agha, Nazir Husain, Leela Chitnis, Babloo, Padmini Priyadarshani, Sabita Chatterjee, Shivraj, Manorama, Mumtaz, Hari Shivdasani and Pran. The story, screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by GL Rawal. Editing was done by Pran Mehra.
Lyrics for this movie were written by Sahir Ludhianvi and music was composed by Roshan. Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle and Suman Kalyanpur had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
As mentioned above the movie has total ten songs as listed below and if we include the today’s ‘couplet-song’ it makes eleven songs in this movie.
