Moving ahead with the series on Asha Bhosle singing for actresses whose first names begin with the letter “A”, we come to Ayesha Julka.
Ayesha Julka is another actress whose father served in the Armed Forces. She made her acting debut in the Telugu film Neti Siddhartha (1990). She then entered Hindi cinema with Kurbaan (1991), opposite Salman Khan. The film is said to have been a success, but I cannot remember much about it. The first film in which I noticed her, and which I long considered to be her debut, was Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992).

‘Kal Kee Aawaaz’ (1992) was jointly produced and directed by B R Chopra and Ravi Chopra. The cast included Dharmendra, Raj Babbar, Amrita Singh, Neena Gupta, Fareeda Jalal, Pratibha Sinha, Rohit Bhatia (Debutant), Gufi Paintal, Girija Shankar, Puneet Issar, Arjun etc. This was the last film directed by B R Chopra. It appears that the film was a sequel to B R Chopra’s film, ‘Aaj Kee Aawaaz’ (1984). It is said that the film’s story was inspired from the kidnapping of the then Home Minister, Mufti Sayeed’s daughter, Rubaiya Sayeed.
The main theme of ‘Aaj Ki Aawaaz’ (1984) was the citizens facing the problem from the corrupt system due to the nexus of politicians- criminals-police. A victim of such a system decides to be a vigilante justice giver when the law enforcing agencies fails to protect him. On the other hand, the theme of the film under discussion is the growing menace of kidnapping of children and teenagers from the wealthy family by anti-social elements for ransom as a part of getting easy money. The film also discusses the issues and problems faced by the law enforcing agencies as well the police-criminal nexus. This film was not as successful as ‘Aaj Ki Aawaaz’ (1984).

In the first five episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first five letters of the alphabet and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. They we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another acresses whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.
We managed to find “new” actresses (whose name begin with the first five letters of the alphabet) lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice for the first time in the blog. They were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya,Chandrakala,Divya Bharati and Ekta.

In the first three episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first three letters of the alphabet and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. The exercise of finding a “new” actress whose name begins with a particular letter is being increasingly difficult. The three “new” actresses who made their debuts in the blog (as far as lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice is concerned) were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya and Chandrakala.

We have read about Emperor Akbar having nine officials of extra-ordinary skills and calibres in various fields in his court who were called ‘navratnas’ (nine gems). Music director, Rahul Dev Burman also had ‘navratnas’ in his ‘musical court’. In fact, some of his fans put the numbers ‘ratnas’ close to hundred. Nonetheless, if I have to confine the numbers to ‘navratnas’ in his musical team having specialisation in various fields of music, they were Marutirao Keer (Tabla, Percussion), Basu Chakravarty (Cello), Manohari Singh (Clarinet, Flute), Bhanu Gupta (Harmonica, Rhythm Guitar), Bhupinder Singh (Guitar), Homi Mullan (Duggi, Secondary Percussions), Devichand Chauhan (Dholak, Tabla), Amritrao Katkar (Tabla, Secondary Percussions), and Ranjit Gazmer (Maadal). They were the core team of musicians who exclusively worked for S D Burman and R D Burman. It was only when they had spare time from Burman’s assignments, some of them did work for other music directors.
