#the Decade of Fifties –1951 – 1960 #
——————————————————————

In this post we are going to listen to a song from the ‘1957’ movie ‘Aadmi’.

Films with the same title “Aadmi” have been released in 1939, 1957, 1968 and 1993. Out of these, films released in ‘1939’, ‘1957’ and ‘1968’ are already represented on the blog. One of them, viz ‘Aadmi-1968’ is YIPPEED on the blog.

‘Aadmi-1957’ was directed by Navneet Rai for ‘Picutres Parade’ presentation. It was produced by Kumar Anand.

It had Nasir Khan, Begum Para, Kamran, Nirmal Kumar, Patanjali, Uma Dutt, Kammo, Arvind Kumar, Heera Sawant, Prem Sagar, Nalini and Kamal Mehra.

Sheikh, Bhudo Advani and Yakub made a guest appearance in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 02.04.1957.

HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) mentioned in the foot-note for this movie page that this movie ‘Aadmi-1957’ was the last film of actress Begum Para.

“Aadmi-1957” has eight songs in it.
Music of this film was composed by Ramnath, while lyrics for all its’ eight songs were penned by Sartaj Rahmani.

Here is the list of songs in this movie:-

Today’s song is the third song from this movie to be presented on the blog. It is sung by Sudha Malhotra. Lyrics are by Sartaj Rehmani and music is composed by Ramnath.
I am unable to identify the actresses shown in the video of this song available on the internet (I sincerely hope that this video is authentic and from this movie only).

Today’s song is a nice song which the lady seems to be singing for her ‘sakhi-saheli’ , where I guess, the marriage of her ‘sakhi-saheli’ with her beloved seems to be on the card 🙂

Let us now listen to the song …

Hullo Atuldom

“Biwi Aur Makaan” (1966) had songs written by Gulzar, which were tuned by Hemant Kumar. It had 10 or 11 songs that were in the voices of Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Talat Mehmood, Manna Dey, Mukesh, Hemant Kumar, Mohd. Rafi etc. The movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and produced by Hemant Kumar. Dialogues (the crux of any comedy movie) were by Rajinder Singh Bedi. Mehmood and Biswajeet headed a cast which also had Kalpana, Shabnam, Padma Khanna, Keshto Mukherjee, Bipin Gupta, Ashish Kumar etc.

The movie was the remake of a Bengali film “Joy Maa Kali Boarding” and an inspiration for the Marathi hit of the ’80s ‘Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi”. In Telugu it was made as “Chitram Bhalare Vichitram”. It has been made in Kannada, Tamil and the story was so inspiring that it had remakes in Bengali in 2017, Punjabi 2014 and Hindi 2009.

The story was of four bachelors who migrate from their villages to the big city. While attempting to access accomodation, they are repeatedly told that rooms will only be rented to married couples, not to bachelors. Frustrated at this, two of them disguise themselves as women, and pose as wives for the other two males. They are able to secure accommodation with the Mishra family. Complications arise when the two “women” fall in love with Mishra’s two lovely daughters – with results that can only be described as hilarious. Keshto Mukherjee’s act ad facial expression as ‘Badi Bahu’ and Biswajeet as the beautiful ‘Choti Bahu’ should be seen at least once. Of course, it was Mehmood’s timing that was the highlight of the film.

The following three songs from the movie are already on the blog:

Song Date of post Post by
Dabe labon se kabhi jo koyi 23 June 2009 (by Atulji)
Jaane kahaan dekha hai 2 June 2014 (by Sudhirji)
Mujhe mohabbat ho gayi hai 22 December 2016 (by Maheshji)

I had commented to the song “dabe labon se kabhi jo koyi” in 2017 after seeing the Marathi version of this movie about how Ashok Saraf matched Mehmood (imho) and Sachin looked as pretty as Biswajeet in the guise of a lady.

We are having this song today to wish the poet-lyricist-author-director- producer- screenwriter Sampooran Singh Kalra a.k.a Gulzar on turning a year older. He was born in 1934 in Dina of Jhelum district which is in present day Pakistan. He is married to actress Rakhee and has a daughter Meghana who is also a director of movies like ‘Filhaal’, ‘Raazi’, Chhapaak’ and such other non-run-of-the-mill movies.

Gulzar (who initially worked under the name Gulzar Deenvi) started his music career with SD Burman in the 1963 classic ‘Bandini’ and worked with many music directors like Salil Chowdhury, Vishal Bhardwaj, A.R. Rehman etc. Can one forget the songs that his pairing with RD Burman gave lovers of Bollywood music. He is a winner of the Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Academy award and Dadasaheb Phalke award. He is a 5 time National award, one Academy award (Oscars) and Grammy too in addition to innumerable Filmfare awards.

It would be a ‘chota munh aur badi baat’ (holding a candle to the sun) kind of situation if I attempt writing anything on such an accomplished personality. So, let us get to today’s song and Just wish our favourite writer/ lyricist/ producer/ director/ screenwriter/ poet a healthy and peaceful time ahead.

Song-Aise daanton mein ungli dabaao nahin (Biwi Aur Makaan)(1966) Singers-Usha Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD-Hemant Kumar

Lyrics(Based on Audio link)

aise daanton mein ungli dabaao nahin
raat jaagi ho hamse chhupaao nahin
aise daanton mein ungli dabaao nahin
raat jaagi ho hamse chhupaao nahin

koi sapnon mein aata raha raat bhar
koi sapnon mein aata raha raat bhar
na main soyi na jaagi sataao nahin
aise daanton mein ungli dabaao nahin
raat jaagi ho hamse chhupaao nahin

kaun thha
kaisa thha
bataao naa
koi anjaan si ek pehchaan thhi
meri aankhon pe jhuk kar bulaati rahi
koi anjaan si ek pehchhan thi
meri aankhon pe jhuk kar bulaati rahi
na main boli
na main jaagi
sirf saanson ki awaaz aati rahi
ek aaghosh mein kaid thhi raat bhar
lo bata toh diya sataao nahin
tumko sapnon ki saugandh banaao nahin
raat jaagi ho hamse chhupaao nahin
tumko sapnon ki saugandh banaao nahin
raat jaagi ho hamse chhupaao nahin

jism jalta raha jaise khushboo jale
saans honthon pe aakar sulagte rahe
jism jalta raha jaise khushboo jale
saans honthon pe aakar sulagte rahe
na jali main
na bujhi main
mere honthon pe saawan baraste rahe
shokh malta raha sediyaan raat bhar
lo bata toh diya ab sataao nahin
jaao jaao hamein yoon banaao nahin
dil diya hai kisi ko chhupao nahin
aise daanton mein ungli dabaao nahin
dil diya hai kisi ko chhupaao nahin

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 67
———————————————————————————–

Ten years ago on this day (viz on 31 August 2010), the blog saw six songs from six movies get represented in the day.
Here are the details:-

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Ae jaane e jigar dil mein samaane aajaa Aaraam-1951 All songs covered
Ek main hoon ek meri beqasi ki shaam hai Taraanaa-1951 All songs covered
Khushiyon ko lootkar yahaan Shirin Farhad-1956 All songs covered
Beet gayi hai aadhi raat Naache Naagin Baaje Been-1960 05 songs posted
Husn e jaanaa idhar aa Saathi-1968 All songs covered
Koi aur duniyaa mein tumsaa haseen hai Pyaar Ki Kahaani-1971 02 songs posted

Four of these movies have already been represented. Two unYIPPEED movies have one thing in common. Both of them made their debuts ten years ago.

One of these movies, viz “Naache Naagin Baaje Been”(1960) has already been taken up under “Blog Ten Year Challenge”. Here is a song from the other movie viz “Pyaar Ki Kahaani”(1971).

Younger music lovers may not think much of this movie. In fact they may not even be aware of this movie. As an “oldtimer”, I had heard of this movie as part of a string of flop movies that Amitabh Bachchan has figured in. The movie, directed by Ravikant Nagaich, had Amitabh Bachchan, Farida Jalal, Anil Dhawan, Tanuja, Prem Chopra, Bipin Gupta, Madhu Chanda, Praveen Paul, Agha, Mukri, Mohan Choti, Paintal,m Gulshan Bawra, Rashid Khan, Birbal, Yunus Parwez etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. Three songs have been covered till now. Here are the details of the songs that have been covered so far:-

Song Posted On
Koi aur duniyaa mein tumsaa haseen hai 31 August 2010
Ek patey ki baat bataaun 11 october 2013
Ek khabar aayi suno ek khabar aayi 4 April 2015

Here is the fourth song from “Pyaar Ki Kahaani”(1971). This song is sung by Lata, Usha Mangeshkar and chorus. The song is picturised as a Saheli teasing a lady genre of song. I can identify Tanuja. Other than that I cannot identify others. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.

Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

This post is the 79th post for the month of August 2020. It stands nowhere in comparison to 176 posts published during August 2010. Nevertheless, this is the highest figure for a month in well over two years since April 2018. Hopefully we will be able to surpass this figure in the next month.
