#the Decade of Seventies – 1981 – 1990 #
————————————————————————
# 1983 Songs – Century Celebrations # Debutant Movie- “Woh Saat Din”
—————————————-——————————
Regulars on the blog must be aware of my love for the year ‘1983’. It was an important year of my life as I had appeared and successfully passed the Board exams for standard 10th that year. And the other important and unforgettable happening of the year was India winning the ‘World Cup of Cricket’ in that year.
There were many other things also but here we come back to our most favorite topic i.e. Hindi films.
In Hindi movies it was the year of Rajesh Khanna. His movies ‘Avtaar’, ‘Souten’ and ‘Agar Tum Naa Hotey’ were released in this year and they were successful movies of this year.
This year was also an important year for Bappi Lahiri as he composed music for as many as nineteen movies (equal to R.D. Burman who was the other contender for composing music in maximum number of movies that year). Total 130 movies were released during this year.
That year also saw ‘Himmatwaalaa’, a south production featuring Jeetendra with Sridevi.
Movies like ‘Ardh Satya’, ‘Arpan’, ‘Andhaa Qaanoon’, ‘Betaab’, ‘Hero’ (coming at the year-end), ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’, ‘Hamse Hain Zamaana’, ‘Justice Choudhary’, ‘Kalaakaar’, ‘Mandi’,’Mujhe Insaaf Chaahiye’, ‘Naukar Biwi Kaa’, ‘Painter Babu’, ‘Rang Birangi’, ‘Razia Sultan’ etc etc …
There were Amitabh movies like ‘Mahaan’, ‘Coolie’, and ‘Pukaar’ other than ‘Andhaa Qaanoon’. Dharmendra had ‘Qayaamat’ other than ‘Naukar Biwi Ka’. And Rajesh Khanna had ‘Nishaan’ with (Jeetendra) other than his three movies mentioned above. And not to forget the ‘English’ titled movies of Kumar Gaurav ‘Lovers’ and ‘Romance’.
With all these mainstream movies (yes, I consider ‘Ardh Satya’ in this) there were movies from ‘parallel cinema’ and /or ‘offbeat movies’. Such movies included ‘Mandi’, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’, ‘Aagaman’, and ‘Kaalkaa’, ‘Kisi Se Naa Kehnaa’, ‘Sadma’, ‘Pasand Apni Apni’, ‘Sookhaa’, ‘Trikon Ka Chauthaa Kon’, ‘Zaraa Si Zindagi’.
Some movies overlap the distinction between ‘main stream’ and ‘parallel or offbeat movies’ and that is why my listing of them may not be accurate according to the yardsticks of others. Also I personally feel that gradually this difference of ‘commercial’ and ‘parallel or art cinema’ was getting blurred and people had started appreciating good cinema. People of the younger generations too, were watching and appreciating such movies.
I might be missing names of many movies which readers would think should have been mentioned in the above ‘lists’. Like there were some Mithun Chakravarty movies too viz. ‘Wanted’ etc. (though I have mentioned ‘Mujhe Insaaf Chaahiye’).
( I would request reader to forgive me if I have missed anybody’s favorites in above listing.)
Among all these movies there was one more movie which had a very nice musical score and its treatment was also altogether different. This movie has some of the finest performances from the stars included in it.
Today we will be introducing this movie on the blog.
I was surprised when I noticed that this movie is yet to make a debut on the blog. Readers will also be surprised , particularly when one goes through the list of movies from ‘1983’ that have been presented on the blog as of now.
For now I am not representing the list here.
For today’s discussion I would present a list of films from the year ‘1983’, from the Composer/s who composed music for the song under discussion in this post.
Here is the list.

Yes, the music for all the above movies was composed by the music-duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
Did you guess today’s movie?
Yes, the movie for today is ‘Woh Saat Din’.
“Woh Saat Din” or ‘Woh 7 Din” was directed by Bapu for ‘S.K. Films Enterprises’. It had Anil Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, Naseeruddin Shah, Master Raju, Ashalata, Neelu Phoole, Dina Pathak, Baby Suchita, Shaukat Azmi and others.
Actor Jagdeep had a guest appearance in this movie.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 23.06.1983.
The story of this movie was based on K. Bhagyaraja’s movie ‘Aanda Yel Naatkal’ (in Tamil) which is turn is said to be inspired by the real-life story of comedian J.P. Chandrababu.
The original Tamil film ‘Aandha 7 Naatkal’ was remade in Telugu in ‘1981’ as ‘Radha Kalyanam’, in Hindi in ‘1983’ as ‘Woh 7 Din’ and in Kannada in ‘1989’ as ‘Love Maadi Nodu’ (as mentioned on Wikipedia).
“Woh 7 Din” has six songs which all were written by Anand Bakshi and music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal, Suresh Wadkar, Shabbir Kumar, Kavita Krishnamurty, Anil Kapoor and Master Raju had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
I remember to have watched this movie with my uncle (who was serving in military and had come on vacation) at Akola (I was studying there). I remember that I had likened this movie very much. All its songs were good and they were quite popular in those days, though none of them featured in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of ‘1983’.
Today’s song from this movie is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Shabbir Kumar. Padmini Kolhapure and Anil Kapoor lip-sync this song on screen.
Lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and Laxmikant-Pyarelal are the composers of this song.
With this beautiful song this movie ‘Woh Saat Din-1983’ makes its debut on the blog today. This song also happens to be the 100th song in the blog for movies released in the year 1983.

3 songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar in movies of 1990 have been covered in the blog. All Lata songs from two movies (two songs each from “Aaj Ka Arjun” and one song from “Jeene Do”) have been covered. That leaves us with 9 songs from 7 movies of 1990 that are yet to be covered.
Alphabetically “Aag Ka Darya”(1990) is the first movie of 1990 that offers us a Lata Mangeshkar song to be covered in the blog.
“Aag Ka Darya”(1990) was produced by Produced by R Venkatraman and directed by S V Rajendra Singh. The movie had Dilip Kumar, Rekha, Amrita Singh, Avtar Gill, Padmini Kolhapure etc in it.
“Aag Ka Darya”(1990)had six songs in it. One song has been covered in the past.
Out of the remaining three songs, one song is a Lata Shabbir Kumar duet.
Here is that song. It is penned by Rajinder Krishan. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
This song is the last song that Rajinder Krishan penned for Lata Mangeshkar. As mentioned earlier, Rajinder Krishan penned 555 songs (in 157 movies) in all for Lata Mangeshkar. These songs were released between 1949 and 1990.

Part I (Duet) Lata, Shabbir Kumar

jis raat chandaniya se ye chaand khafa hoga aa
jis raat chandaniya se ye chaand khafa hoga
us raat ke raahi ka socha bhi hai kya hoga
raste mein andhera hai aur door thhikaana hai ae
rishta ye mohabbat ka donon ko nibhaana hai
vo ghar bhi koi ghar hai deevaar na ho jismein
vo ghar bhi koi ghar hai deevaar na ho jismein
us pyaar ki kya keemat takraar na ho jismein
gussa to manaane ka bas ek bahaana hai ae

sony jise kahte the vo sony tumhi to ho
tum aas ho jeevan ki tum khoon ka bandhan ho
bigadi huyi kisamat ko aji tumne banaya hai
ik aag ka dariya hai or paar bhi jaana hai ae

Hullo Atuldom
“Atulsongaday”- our favourite blog- is 16200+ posts old. We are still discovering popular songs and exclaiming ‘how come this has not yet been posted’. The song with this post is one that will get similar thoughts in the minds of the regular followers.
It is from a movie that I saw in the theatres at the time of its release and fell in love with its lead actors. Of course, falling in love with the moving images on the silver screen is something that I have been a victim of since “Seeta aur Geeta”, “Aradhana” and all the other movies that fall in my list of personal favourites. Small wonder then that I liked what I saw in “Betaab” and it is in the list of movies that I see every time I come across it. Also, the young star-crossed couple that Amrita Singh -Sunny Deol portrayed looked every bit in love with each other, that means they are good actors who did justice to Rahul Rawail’s (the director) judgement in casting them. Finally, ‘star-crossed lovers’ has always been a hit-formula in Indian movies and I am a fan of that formula since “Bobby”.
“Betaab” (1983) was produced by Vijayta Films which is essentially Dharmendra’s production house and Bikram Singh Dehal was the producer. Javed Akhtar was the writer, Anand Bakshi the lyricist and RD Burman was the music director. Shabbir Kumar (for whom this was a breakthrough movie) and Lata Mangeshkar were the playback singers. Nirupa Roy and Shammi Kapoor played parents, Prem Chopra the spoilsport, and Annu Kapoor, Birbal, Sunder etc were in supporting roles.
Interestingly, there is a scene in the start of the movie, where Amrita Singh (Roma Singh/Dingy in the movie) goes to fill petrol and the person who played the petrol pump attendant was actor Sunder’s son. That scene was to show the haughtiness of Roma’s character who later gets tamed and toned down after falling in love with Sunny. The two families are shown to be old-time friends who part ways and when Sunny’s family falls on bad times, Roma’s father, Shammi Kapoor, doesn’t acknowledge them as now they are on different economic levels. The movie travels the usual path of the lovers revolting against the tough father and his restrictions etc. and eventually getting back together for an ‘all is well’ ending.
Amrita Singh, who was a debutant in “Betaab” alongwith Sunny Deol, has her birthday today. And she is not a lady who hides her age and has been bold enough to act in all types of roles. She was amazing as a selfish sister in Deepak Sareen directed and Yash Chopra produced “Aaina” in 1994 and that fetched her the best supporting actor award. She has also enacted a negative character in the television serial “Kaavyanjali” and won an award there too. I saw the movie “2 States” in 2014 just to see her and Revathi (of south films), two actresses of the 80s and 90s whose work I enjoy.
Amrita was a heroine i.e playing a girl in love; screaming when the villain walks in; trying to get in the good books of the hero, his mother and other sundry family members in many of her initial movies. At the same time, she also tried her comic timing in “Chameli Ki Shaadi”; played a girl jilted by her man and still going ahead to give birth to his son in “CID” (1990) where Vinod Khanna was her hero. She has been paired with Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Rajesh Khanna, Rajnikant, Raj Babbar, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Sunny, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie etc. of the next generation. When she co-starred with Shahrukh Khan in “Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman” she played a grey character and with Salman Khan in “Suryavanshi” she played the wandering ‘atma’ (soul) of a departed princess who is waiting to be re-united with her lover. She has had the guts to play a totally heartless businesswoman in “Kalyug” (2005) which was all about secret cameras, porn videos and international rackets dealing with these crimes. She had a break in her career when she married Saif Ali Khan in the 90s, had kids etc. She returned to face the camera with “23rd March 1931: Shaheed” as Bhagat Singh’s (played by Bobby Deol) mother. Her daughter Sara has made her debut in Bollywood through “Kedarnath” in 2018.
Here is wishing Amrita Singh all happiness and success in her future ventures too with this song that was her debut in Bollywood. This song appears in parts in the movie with the two also running around as kids when this song plays in the background (just remembered this bit.)

Lyrics
o o o o
o o o o
o o o o
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawan honge
yeh bachpan ka pyaar agar kho jaayega
dil kitna khaali-khaali ho jaayega
yeh bachpan ka pyaar agar kho jaayega
dil kitna khaali-khaali ho jaayega
tere khayaalon se ise aabaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
hahaha
hahaha
aise hansti thhi woh aise chalti thhi
aise hansti thhi woh aise chalti thhi
chaand ke jaise chhupti aur nikalti thhi
aise hansti thhi woh aise chalti thhi
chaand ke jaise chhupti aur nikalti thhi
sab se teri baaten tere baad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
aa
aa aa aa
aa aa
aa aa aa
tere shabnami khwaabon ki tasveeron se
teri reshmi zulfon ki zanjeeron se ae
tere shabnami khwaabon ki tasveeron se
teri reshmi zulfon ki zanjeeron se
kaise hum apne aap ko aazaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
zeher judaayi kaa peena pad jaaye toh
bichhad ke bhi hum ko jeena pad jaaye toh
zeher judayi kaa pina pad jaye toh
bichhad ke bhi hum ko jeena pad jaaye toh
saari jawaani bas yoonhi barbad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
jaane kahaan honge
lekin jahaan honge
wahaan fariyaad karenge ae
tujhe yaad karenge
jab hum jawaan honge
