on:I wonder if anyone has made a list of “Chakki” songs in Hindi movies. Present generation people may not be aware of a “Chakki”. “Chakki” was a manual rotaty grinder- a home appliance of previous generations which was used to grind grains. You poured grains on the hole near the centre of the “chakki” and rotated the “Chakki”. The grain got crushed and came out from the edges which was then collected.

on:Munshi Premchand (31 July 1880- 8 october 1936) was a premier Hindi novelist whose novels and stories have had an enormous influence on modern Hindi literature. When I look at his literary output, I am amazed at his vision. His vision was unbelievably progressive and futuristic, especially considering the era he lived in (late 19th century to early 20th century).

While posting songs from “Bandini” (1963), I had mentioned that even the “lesser” songs from this movie were gems. This movie has absolutely wonderful songs sung by Lata, Mukesh, S D Burman, Asha Bhonsle etc.

on:When it comes to songs of the golden era, I have certain observations. One of these observations is that every movie had several nice songs. Some of the songs went on to become popular but even those songs which failed to become popular are worth listening to. In many cases, they may even be as good as, if not better, than the more popular songs of that movie.
