# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Missing movies of 1973-11)
——————————————-——————————

Today’s song is a lovely duet song sung by Mohd Rafi and Radha Saluja. I guess this is the first song by Radha Saluja on the blog. I am not aware much about her singing. As per the details available on online sources her voice appeared in at least three songs in Hindi films. One of these songs is being presented today.

This song is from the ‘1973’ movie ‘Wohi Raat Wohi Aawaaz’. This is another movie from the year ‘1973’ which was missing from the blog so far.

This movie seems to be an obscure movie of its time. Though this movie is available online and interested readers can watch it there. Also, I guess, all the songs of this movie are available online at least in audio format if not video for all.

“Wohee Raat Wohee Aawaaz-1973” or “Wohi Raat Wohi Aawaaz” was directed by Dev Kishen for ‘Mayur Productions’.

This movie is a suspense thriller kind of movie. It was produced by Vipin Desai.

It had Radha Saluja, Sonia Sahni, Samit Bhanja, Sujeet Kumar, Manmohan Krishna, Asit Sen, Kamal Kapoor, Dev Kishan, Chandrima Bhaduri, Preetam, Vidya Shetty, Jack Pot, Mayur, Deepak, Chhotan, Karekar, Ranjana Devi and others.

This movie introduced Rohit Kumar and Ketty Irani.

Mandan Puri, Jay Kajaria and Omi (of Sonik-Omi) had friendly appearances in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Vipin Desai who was also the producer of this movie. Dev Kishen who directed this movie also wrote this movie.
Editing of this movie was done by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 25.04.1973.

This movie has four songs – all written by Hasrat Jaipuri. Music for this movie was composed by Sonik-Omi. Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi, Usha Khanna and Radha Saluja had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Here is the list of songs in this movie :-

SNo Song Title Singer/s
01 Jogiya mera thhirke badan Radha Saluja, Mohd Rafi
02 Mera man bhatak rahaa deewaana Asha Bhonsle
03 Aayi tose milne deewaana dil le ke Asha Bhonsle, Usha Khanna
04 Sochta hai kya, aa kareeb aa Asha Bhonsle

As mentioned above this movie makes its ‘debut’ on the blog today.
Today’s song is sung by Mohd Rafi and Radha Saluja. On screen it is Samit Bhanja (I guess) and Radha Saluja performing on this song. This song is a lovely duet.

Lyrics for today’s song are by Hasrat Jaipuri and music is composed by Sonik-Omi.

Let us now enjoy today’s song …

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 125
————————————————————————————–

Hullo Atuldom

“Sadma” (1983) was produced by Raj N. Sippy & Romu N. Sippy, directed by Balu Mahendra and had lyrics & dialogues by Gulzar. Ilaiyaraaja was the music director who used Suresh Wadkar, Yesudas, Asha Bhonsle, Sridevi and Kamal Haasan as playback singers. The following songs of the movie are present on the blog.

Blog post number SongDate of posting Singer(s)
1881 Ae zindagi gale lagaa le 7 september 2009 Suresh Wadkar
6706 O babuaa ye mahuaa 23 september 2012 Asha Bhonsle
6964 Surmayee ankhiyon mein nanha munna ek sapna de ja re Multiple version song Yesudas 7 November 2012
17218 Ye hawa ye fizaa Asha Bhonslr 7 november 2022

“Sadma” had a cast of Sridevi, Silk Smitha, Leela Mishra, Ashalata Wabgaonkar, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Arvind Deshpande, Paintal, Gulshan Grover, Somayajulu and Kamal Haasan. The film was a remake of the Tamil film “Moondram Pirai” (1982) which also had Kamal and Sridevi.

A small trivia about this movie is that (future maestro) A R Rehman had worked as a keyboard player for this film.

Another trivia is that this was the debut -in Hindi- for Iliaraaja, Balu Mahendra and Silk Smitha. It was the only film where Kamal Haasan and Sridevi acted together in Hindi even though they were a popular pair in South Indian Cinema.

It was the story of the relationship shared by a guileless lonely school teacher and a young woman who has regressed to her childhood due to an accident that has caused retrograde amnesia. The school teacher rescues the girl from a brothel and takes her with him to Ooty, where he takes good care of her and eventually manages to treat her back to normalcy with the help of his friendly neighbour and a local medicine man. But the outcome of this treatment is that the girl goes back to her parents and forgets the school teacher who had looked after her in the interim period.

The melodious lullaby from this movie surmayee-ankhiyon-mein-nanha-munna-ek-sapna-de-ja-re was posted on the blog on this dated in 2012. A mail from Prakashchandraji drew my attention to it, so this movie is in the running for Blog-Ten-Year-Challenge 2012-2022. The following were the songs that were posted on the blog on this-date-that-year. Here are the posts of 7th November 2012 and their yyiippeeee status.

Blog post number Song Movie (Year) Remarks
6960 Palat tera dhyaan kidhar hai Sanjog (1943) Movie YIPPEED by now
6961 Hamen tujh bin kaun sambhaale Door Gagan Ki Chhaaon Mein (1964) Movie YIPPEED by now

6964 Surmayee ankhiyon mein nanha munna ek sapna de ja re Sadmaa (1983) 5 songs covered out of 6 by now

Here is the next song from “Sadma”- it is in the voices of Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. It is story sung as a song by Kamal Haasan’s character to entertain the child in the young lady. Sridevi is extremely cute in this and so is Kamal Haasan. The song was one that was by heart for me back then, subsequently (post marriage i.e.) I heard and learnt the Tamil song too in the equivalent situation; that song was also sung by Sridevi and Kamal Haasan. I found that Gulzarsaab has written the Hindi lyrics giving the same meaning as the Tamil original.

Incidentally, Kamal Haasan turns a year older on 7th November. Here is wishing this actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, playback singer, television presenter and politician a Very Happy Birthday. His last movie released this year on 3rd June and it was his 232nd release. May he continue to entertain us.

Editor’s note:-Today, two different songs rom “Sadmaa”(1983) get covered as part of Blog Ten Year Challenge. with this, all the six songs of “Sadmaa”(1983) get covered in the blog and the movie joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.

Blog Day : 3609 Post No. : 14395

Today 5th June 2018 is World Environment Day. This year’s theme is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’!! And this year our own country India is the host for celebration of this day world-wide.

Last year I presented a post here on the blog celebrating this day, with a relevant couplet paying tribute to mother nature and mentioning some songs from Hindi movies which have used nature as a symbol/metaphor and direct reference. For this year’s theme, I don’t think any song relevant to this or either relevant to pollution, is available in our Hindi Movies. There is one song which I can relate to my favourite subject – scrap and its disposal – can be cited. It is penned by none other than Sahir Saab, the song being “Khaali Dabba Khaali Botal Le Le Mere Yaar“.

Few years back I had penned a poem – a ‘self-narrative’ by a ‘polybag (Panni) ’ and if our editors allow it can be reproduced here. The poem is in Hindi and for today’s presentation I have got its translation into English done by my daughter Ashwini.

(Translation in English provided by Ashwini Scrapwala)

I am a ‘polybag’ wandering places,
Wandering just like the other members of my species are,
Spreading throughout and travelling into the unknown,
Getting ignored with no hopes of getting cared and cured
Yet I keep wishing, for someone to pick me up in their loving arms,
I wish someone would take me to my rightful ‘disposal’, the place where I belong.
I wonder where my siblings are,
Maybe they’re wretched just like me,
Maybe they too have a gruesome story to tell
Like PVC had to tell this other day;
“Oh! the ignorant Humans!
Why aren’t you saving yourselves from me?
Don’t you care about your future?
The future of you and your progeny…”
I wish you would have kept us away from your surroundings
Instead of letting I and my specie get all messed up with each other.
I myself have been through a lot,
Be it getting trapped in cluster of spikes
Or being wrapped up around the branch of a tree!
I’ve floated in the drains, muffled over cans and ducts
Just to become the culprit of everything filthy!
I am that tramp, who keeps wandering constantly,
Rotting through rivers and pools,
Ending up spreading pollution everywhere,
You ask me where I’ll be found,
I am Omnipresent I say!
Flying, crashing through nowhere
Hoping for some day ‘someone’ will come,
And take me to my ‘appropriate disposal’
Please embrace me, love me, care me
Help me to reach – ‘my final destination’
Take me where I belong and save your Habitat,
Save your mother, Oh human,
Save your nature, Save ‘mother earth’

I wish our movie makers make more films on subjects like sustainable living, pollution and other environmental issues. In 2014, I had attempted to write a meaningful poem using Hindi movie titles on the occasion of World Environment Day in 2014. I am sharing herewith the link for this post.

Dharti Kahe Pukaar Ke… Jiyo Aur Jeene Do

For today’s occasion, again I have very small poem/song from a very recent movie “Kalpvriksh” (कल्पवृक्ष) aka “The Wishing Tree” from 2017. This song is penned by Gulzar Saab. I came across this movie during my air journey from Mumbai to Ethiopia while travelling to Kenya. I always find such movies very close to my heart and I like them very much. “Kalpvriksh” is presented by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for Rhombus Films Production. It is produced by Raajaysh Chetwal and Directed by Manika Sharma, who also wrote the screenplay and dialogues for this movie.

The star cast includes Shabana Azmi, Prithvi Zutshi, Saurabh Shukla, Rajat Kapoor, and many other child artists and other artists. The credits in the beginning of the movie does not mention the names. Lyrics (for other songs) are written by Anil Pandey and Kausar Munir. Music is composed by Sandesh Shandilya. Amitabh Bachchan has lent his voice in the beginning of the movie and Gulzar Saab’s name is mentioned with Special Thanks in the titles. Editing of this movie was done by Kaushik Das.

A brief about this movie copies from the YT link of the trailer of the movie is given below;

‘THE WISHING TREE’ is a magical, inspirational and an extremely entertaining story of five children in a hill-station who come together to save their ‘wishing tree’ from being cut by vested interests. The film is extremely lively, entertaining, endearing and engrossing so that the underlying message to protect trees and environment is seamlessly driven home.

Let us now listen and enjoy the beautiful, poignant and thoughtful verses by none other than Gulzaar Saab!!!
Other songs of this movie are also very good and I like them very much 😊.

[Auth Note : An interesting aside – since its inception in 1974 the ‘World Environment Day’ never had ‘Save Trees’ as its theme except in 1986 when the theme was ‘A Tree for Peace’ 😊.]

Song – Darakht Jab Sochte Hain (Kalpvriksh) (2017) Singer – Gulzar, Lyrics – Gulzar, MD – Sandesh Shandilya

Lyrics

darakht sochte hain jab
to phool aate hain
wo dhoop mein dubo ke ungliyaan
khayaal likhte hai
lachakti shaakhon par
to rang rang labz chunte hain
khushboo’on se bolte hain
aur bulaate hain

hamaara shauq dekhiye
ke gardanein hi kaat lete hain
jahaan kahin mehakta hai koyi

खुशबूओं से बोलते हैं
और बुलाते हैं

GEMS FROM THE MIGRATORS…song no. 5
—————————————

So far, I have done 16 series here. This is the 17th series. Writing for a series is not an easy job.It not only requires lot of spade work, but also requires a continuous flow, avoiding a long gap between 2 posts, lest the tempo is lost. When I start a series, I am always in lot of tension till it is completed successfully. Every series is a new beginning for me. In spite of all this (and the ensuing allegations of ” neglect ” from the family ) I enjoy doing this work. There are many Blogs on internet which do posts on theme like ” Cycle songs”, Motor songs” or Sawan songs etc. I have always felt that Atul ji’s Blog is not an ordinary one and it must have real specially made exclusive topics for series I could do these posts, because Atul ji has always helped me with the Lyrics and has encouraged me always. Thanks Atul ji.

Sadanand Kamath, a pillar of this blog is one of the seniormost regulars of this blog. His introduction in his blog makes for an impressive reading. It mentions:

Post graduate in Monetary Economics, worked in Reserve Bank of India and thereafter with a major Bond House until retirement on August 31, 2006. Did consultancy work in the area of financial markets with a major industrial house which I gave up in June 2009 to devote more time to my family, travelling and trekking.

Mr Sadanand Kamath appears to have discovered the blog in july 2011. He began to comment in the blog from that month onwards. He first sent me a song lyrics on 8 october 2011 for a song of “Doraaha” (1952) with the request that it may be used on 25 oct 2011, which was Sahir Ludhianvi’s anniversary.

The series is moving very slow, and you must be thinking that I may have forgotten about it. Rest assured, I have not. These songs and recordings are one of a kind, and I will most certainly post the complete set of ten such surprising items that have been hidden away from the minds and memory of the listeners, for decades.

One category of rare performances is when one sees a mainline actor, not recognized as a singer, singing playback for self. There is a smattering of such examples in the history of Hindi films. Some well known examples are,

“Aaina”(1944) was an R D Production movie. This movie was directed by S M Yusuf. The movie had Trilok Kapoor, Husn Bano, Kaushlya, Yakub, Gope etc in it.

Here is a song from this movie. This song is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewaali and Gope. Pt Phani is the lyricist. The movie had two music directors in it viz Gulshan Soofi and Fateh Ali Khan. Both names are attributed against this song which means that the music director of this song is not known.
