Hullo Atuldom

‘Cape Fear’ (1962) was a noir psychological thriller that had Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum and Polly Bergen in the cast and was directed by J Lee Thompson. The movie was based on the 1957 novel ‘The Executioners’ by John D. Macdonald. The movie was the story of an attorney whose family is stalked by a criminal he had helped to send to jail.

‘Mangal Dada (1986) was directed by Ramesh Gupta, had Sunil Dutt, Reena Roy, Amjad Khan, Sarika, Satyendra Kapoor, Achala Sachdev, Farida Jalal, Bhagwan Dada, Birbal etc in its cast. Though it released in 1986 it was launched in 1975. It had music by Kalyanji Anandji and songs were written by Shaily Shailendra, Gauhar Kanpuri, and Indeevar. Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mageshkar, Aarti Mukherjee and Manhar Udhas were the playback singers. It seems Reena Roy’s voice was dubbed by someone else.

‘Qayamat’ (1983) was directed by Raj N Sippy. It had Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Jaya Prada, Poonam Dhillon, Smita Patil in its cast. (Jaya Prada’s was either a special or guest appearance). Majrooh Sultanpuri and RD Burman were the lyricist and music director for songs that were sung by Asha Bhonsle. One song sequence from this movie is posted on the blog as part of Sudhirji’s series on ‘songs repeated in Hindi films’ – this one “Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai“.

‘Kanoon Kya Karega’ (1984) was directed by Mukul Anand and had a cast of Suresh Oberoi, Danny, Deepti Naval, Iftekhar, Shraddha Verma, Sharat Saxena etc. in the cast. The music was by Salil Choudhury but I can’t find any songs attributed to this movie. (I think I have seen this on television).

“Zahreela” (2001) was also directed by Raj N Sippy (he seemed to have been in love with the plot.) The movie’s cast was Mithun Chakravarthy, Om Puri, Kashmera Shah, Gulshan Grover, Shalini Kapoor, etc. The songs were written by Dev Kohli and Anand-Milind were the music directors. Abhijeet, Sudesh Bhonsle, Jaspinder Narula, Purnima, Sonu Nigam, and Preeti Uttam were the playback singers.

I am sure the reader is thinking why I have listed all these movies here. Well all the Hindi films were inspired from ‘Cape Fear’. This statement will give us an idea of the story of all the movies.

This post has a song from ‘Mangal Dada’ which is written by Gauhar Kanpuri and is sung by Manhar Udhas and Lata Mangeshkar.

Gauhar Kanpuri made his debut in Bollywood in 1967 but the real breakthrough came in 1975 when he wrote the songs for Sunil Dutt’s ‘Zakhmee’. After ‘Zakhmee’ he regularly associated with Bappi Lahiri. Many of the songs he wrote went on to become popular:- “Abhi Abhi Thi Dushmani” (Zakhmee), “Ae Mere Humsafar Ae Meri Jaan-e-Jaan” (‘Baazigar’ – 1993), “Tumhe Geeton Mein Dhaaloonga” (‘Saawn Ko Aane Do’ – 1979) to name some. In his career of nearly 25 years he wrote around 300 songs for almost 120 films. The statistics page of our blog says that there are 22 songs written by him on the blog. He was born on 1st October 1932 and passed away on 29th June 2002.

[Author’s Note: The matter for this post has been extracted from Cinemaazi article – ‘Gauhar Kanpuri – Lyricist‘. And I found this site has given atulsongaday.me as its source. Back to starting point? 🙂 ]

30th June is the birth anniversary of Shri Kalyanji Veerji Shah of the Kalyanji-Anandji music director duo. He would have been 94. I am sure we have enough material on the blog on this music duo and Kalyanji bhai, in particular. We all know that the musical journey of Kalyanji Bhai began when he played the ‘been music‘ for ‘Nagin’ in 1954. A journey that went on for almost 46 years with one popular song following the other. Each and every lover of HFM will have a personal playlist of Kalyanji-Anandji song. The blog has 630 songs of this duo from a possible 1435.

Today’s song must be a rare occasion when K-A associated with Gauhar Kanpuri. I haven’t found a video link to the song; but I am assuming that it is filmed on Sunil Dutt and Reena Roy.

This Week, That Year – 9

26Jun – 02Jul, 2012

Ah yes, long gap. My intention has been to make this series a weekly affair. But then – ‘man proposes, everybody else disposes’ keeps happening with me. 😀 . And so, intentions aside, this series has been a victim of my preoccupations / laziness / lack of creativity – howsoever I may say it. But of course, no excuses are relevant.

Rear view mirror scenario on the blog, of the week that was – 26th Jun to 2nd July of 2012. Let us take a look at the numbers first.

A total of 33 songs were posted in that week, at an average of about 4.7 songs per day. The pageant of the calendar covered is four decades – from 1936 to 1976.  Break up of films by decade is as follows,

1930s  –  2 (Both from 1936)
1940s  –  1 (Jugnu, 1947)
1950s  –  12
1960s  –  9
1979s  –  9

No film got repeated and so we covered 33 films during that week, Well actually, it is 32 films and 1 NFS. The NFS was a song by CH Atma.

As many as 9 films made their debut that week. And yes, 2 films got Yippeee’d in that week – ‘Duniya’ (1968) and ‘Aap Ki Kasam’ (1974). Just as an aside, I did a quick check on the Yippeee status of films, till that week. When the week started, we were 3 years, 11 months and 7 days ahead of the blog initiation date of 19 July, 2008. Want to take a guess as to how many films had been Yippeee’d till then? I myself was a little surprised at the number. By that date, we had already Yippeee’d 135 films on the blog. Majority of this list is from the 1950s and 1960s. Surprise item is that there is one film from 1939. Besides, there are 12 films from 1940s, and 17 films from 1970s. The remaining 105 films are from the two decades of 50s and 60s.  We were 6,133 posts old on 26th June.

The week saw two major milestone achieved. On 28th June, with the song “Beech Bajariya Mori Chunariya Sar Se Sarki Jaaye” from film ‘Khoobsurat’ of 1952, SH Behari arrived at his first century milestone. He had made his debut on the blog on 1st December, 2008, and completed his first century in a little more than three and a half years. On 30th June, with the song “Koi Bechaara” from the film ‘Sannata’ of 1966, Lata Mangeshkar breached the 1,800 mark on the blog.

Of all the 33 films that were showcased that week, 25 have been Yippeee’d since then. Seven films continue to be tagged with ‘Pending’ status. One film, ‘Tangaawaali’ from 1955 carries the conditional Yippeee tag. Of the 9 songs in this film, 7 are already posted here. However two songs are not released on 78rpm record. The video of the film has not yet surfaced on public domain. So we tag those two songs as untraceable (UT). And pending their discovery, we tag the film with the status as conditionally Yippeee’d (Yc).

During this current week, two songs of pending films in this week have been posted as part of the ten year challenge series. One song from the 1973 film ‘Jheel Ke Us Paar’  – “Haaye Bichhua Das Gayo Re”, was posted by Avinash ji on 27th June, and actually Yippeee’d that film too. And just a little while ago today, Atul ji has posted the song “Kaaraj Ki Jyot Sadaa Hi Jarey” from the 1936 film ‘Amar Jyoti’. So the numbers given above get modified as pending films reduced to 6 and the number of Yippeee’d films now is 26.

And with the song that I bring to the blog in this post, these numbers will change once again. This song is from the 1961 film ‘Hum Matwaale Naujawaan’. This film so far has only one song remaining to be posted. With this post on the blog, the film will also get Yippeee’d. Pending films list is further reduced to 5 and the Yippeee’d films number increases to 27.

The song is a real gem – a vintage Chitragupt creation. The music director is well known for his melodious commpositions. And this song is a very fine example of his creativity and talent. I listened to this song today, after tons of years, jiggling my memory of the radio listening days. And I am surprised that this melody has been waiting in the wings for so long. This film made its debut here on 28th October, 2010. The previous posted song (fifth one from the film) came on to the blog on 29th September, 2018. The final song of the film comes on board today, after more than eleven and a half years of its debut.

The song is such an endearing duet of Lata and Usha Mangeshkar. The lyrics are from the pen of Mahjrooh Sb.

The words of the song indicate as being a male-female duet. But since it is sung as a all female duet, it is possible that this duet may be a performance by two actresses on screen, one taking the role of the male person. The male person is trying to woo the lady and invites her to visit his alley, And the lady appears to be putting up a refusal to the gentleman’s advances.

A very lively melody, that is a hallmark of Chitragupt’s music. Jiggling memories of the wonderful music that we used to enjoy on the radio.

Listen and enjoy.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 58

This date (29 June) ten years ago (2012) saw four songs from four movies getting covered in the blog. Here are their details:-

We can observe that three movies (out of four) whose songs were covered ten years ago have since been YIPPEED in the blog. That leaves us with only one movie that is still eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (29 June 2022).

This movie is “Amar Jyoti”(1936). “Amar Jyoti”(1936) was directed by V Shantaram for Prabhat Film Company Poona. The movie had Durga Khote, Shanta Apte, Vaasanti, Karuna devi, Chandra Mohan, V.Nandrekar, Gajendra, K.Narain Kale, S.K. kulkarni, Vasant Desai etc in it.

Seven songs from “Amar Jyoti”(1936) have been covered in the blog so far. Here is the eighth song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Vasant Desai. Pt Narottam Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by Master Krishna Rao.

The song is picturised on Vasant Desai (I guess) and Durga Khote.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) – 8 (1988)

In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in 1988.

In the previous posts under this series we have already seen how the number of movies where music was composed by RD Burman was on a ‘reducing’ trend since 1986, as compared to the previous years from 1981 to 1985. Here is the list of movies from the year 1988 where music for these movies was composed by him.

Today I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Rama O Rama’. I was aware of the title song of this movie since long as this song was featured in one of the albums of songs sung by Amit Kumar. Also I did like this song very much.

‘Rama O Rama’ was directed by Mirza Brothers for Mirza Brothers Films Pvt Ltd’. It had Raj Babbar, Kimi Katkar, and debutant Aasif. The cast also included Pran, Raza Murad, Kiran Kumar, and Gulshan Grover. Supporting cast of this movie included Shammi, Shiva, Vishakha, Prabha Mathur, Shaila Khan, Murari Sharma, Rohit, Sridhar, Master Imran, Master Lovely, Baby Aisha, Master Javed, and others.

The story and screenplay of this movie was written by Mirza Brothers. And editing of this movie was done by Vijay Pande.

The film has 6 songs. Lyrics for the songs in this movie are written by Anand Bakshi and Usman Aarif. Music is composed by RD Burman. Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar, Mohd Aziz, Jayshree Shivram, Iqbal Siddiqui gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

This movie included the following sound tracks,

05 Rama O Rama Anand Bakshi Amit Kumar, Jayshree Shivram
06 Ae Haseen Naazneen Anand Bakshi Mohd Aziz

Today’s song is sung by Amit Kumar and Jayshree Shivram. On screen the male version is lip-synced by debutant Aasif. I am unable to identify the actress lip-syncing the female version on screen.

This was Amit Kumar’s first recording after the death of Kishore Kumar (he has mentioned about this in an interview). We can see the difference in his voice in singing of this song. He does sound like Pancham Da in the alaap “Raama O Raama”. This is a poignant song we can see how he has poured his heart in this song.

I have not watched this movie. But as mentioned above I only remember the today’s song from this movie since long or since 1988/89 I think. Yesterday was the eighty-third birth anniversary of musical genius RD Burman. Let us listen to his this poignant composition. I am sure you will like this composition very much.

With this post the movie ‘Rama O Rama’ makes its debut on the blog.

5092 Post No. : 17021

Today 27th June, 2022 is the eighty-third birth anniversary of Rahul Dev Burman. On our blog we already have few posts coming on this occasion. However, I was looking for a song written by Majrooh Sultanpuri who had a long association with RD Burman. Also, I wish that I should share a song sung by Kishore Kumar because the songs I shared for today didn’t have any Kishore Kumar songs.

So, here I am presenting a song from the 1980 movie ‘Aanchal’. And incidentally this happens to be a song picturized on Rajesh Khanna. I think this is a ‘bonus’ song for today’s celebration.

‘Aanchal’ was directed by Anil Ganguly for Bemisal Films Pvt Ltd. It was produced by Prem Lalwani and Mohan Lalwani. It had Rajesh Khanna, Rakhee Gulzar, Rekha, Prem Chopra, and Amol Palekar, with Leela Mishra, Shammi, Dinesh Hingoo, Ranjana Sachdev, Birbal, Sarita Devi, Asit Sen, Swapan Guha, Amol Sen, Deepak, Master Ravi, Lekha Chauhan, Master Sandeep, Suresh Desai, Saukat Bharti, Jankidas, Rajkishore, Viju Khote, and others. Abhi Bhattacharya had a friendly appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Tara Shankar Bandopadhya, and dialogues were written by Ehsan Rizvi. Screenplay of this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick. Editing of this movie was done by Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 18.09.1980.

This movie has six songs. Lyrics for the songs in this movie are written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is composed by RD Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, and Swapan Chakravarty had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

One song from this movie “Paise Ka Kaajal Daike Na Lo Hamri Jaan has already been discussed on the blog on 18.07.2018. This post was presented by our beloved Raja Saab and here is a brief about this movie he had mentioned in his write-up.

The film stars Kaka, Rekha, Raakhee, Amol Palekar and Prem Chopra. It’s a village-based story, where Kaka and Amol Palekar are brothers, with Raakhee married to Amol Palekar. Since Kaka is her husband’s younger brother, Raakhee treats him with great affection. Kaka too has highest regard for his bhabhi. Prem Chopra, who has a score to settle with Amol Palekar, plays mischief, creating misunderstanding in his mind about the relationship between Raakhee and Kaka. Also, doing the same to Rekha, who is in love with Kaka.

To be honest, the film picks up only in the second half – the first half is rather slow. But maybe it is a build-up to show the relationships between the characters. I was rather keen for the film to get on with the plot.

We will be discussing the details about the other songs in this movie in the future posts on the blog. Regarding the songs from this movie, I think “Bas Meri Jaan Bas. . . Maan Le Meri Baat”, “Paise Ka Kaajal Daike Na Lo Hamri Jaan“, and “Bhor Bhaye Panchhi” were well known songs from this movie. Though the overall musical score is good and other songs from this movie also needs to be listened, like the song today.

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and on screen it is Rajesh Khanna performing on this song with other artistes also seen in the picturization of this song. As mentioned above lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is composed by RD Burman.

Let us listen to and enjoy the today’s song now …

5092 Post No. : 17020

We are in the fag-end of the month of June of this year 2022. As I had mentioned earlier that this month is a special for many of us due to the many anniversaries falling in this month i.e., anniversaries of relatives, friends and as well as anniversaries of many artists too. Today we celebrate birth anniversary of our beloved music genius Rahul Dev Burman, and one post has already been posted on the blog remembering Pancham.

Today 27th June, 2022 is also the seventy-second birth anniversary of singer Nitin Mukesh (born on 27th June, 1950). We wish him a very happy birthday today and also wish him a healthy and peaceful life ahead.

On this occasion I am once again going back to the songs from the movie ‘Santosh’ (1989). There is one duet sung by Nitin Mukesh and Asha Bhonsle in this movie which is yet to be posted on the blog. This song is lying ready with us since long and I take this opportunity to present it today here on the blog.

‘Santosh’ was an East-n-West Movies presentation. It was produced and directed by Balbir Wadhawan. Hansraj Wadhawan was the production controller of this movie. It has Manoj Kumar, Rakhee, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Prem Chopra, Nirupa Roy, Kamini Kaushal, Amjad Khan, Madan Puri, Sarika, Abhi Bhattacharya, Krishna Dhawan, Pichoo Kapoor, Om Shivpuri, Praveen Kumar, and others. Story of ‘Santosh’ is written by Kaushal Bharti. Editing of this movie was done by VV Kamat (assisted by Ashok Naik).

This movie has seven songs written by Santosh Anand (six songs) and Manoj Kumar (one song). Music for this movie was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. I have earlier mentioned the details of the songs of this movie in my previous posts, so I am not going to repeat them again here.

As mentioned above today’s song is sung by Nitin Mukesh and Asha Bhonsle and on screen it is lip-synced by Manoj Kumar and Hema Malini. This song is a nice duet to watch and listen.

Let us enjoy this beautiful song now …

mujhe kuchh huaa hai pataa hai tumhe
badi nam hawaa hai pataa hai tumhe
badan jal rahaa hai ragon mein magar

5092 Post No. : 17019

My first real jaan-pehchaan with this actor happened in 1970. The film – ‘Anand’. He plays the role of Dr. Prakash Kulkarni, friend of Dr. Bhaskar Bannerji (Amitabh Bachchan). His role was impressive and touching. At the climax of the film, when Anand is battling for his last breaths, Bhaskar is not present. He has gone on a last ditch hunt for a miracle medicine. Prakash is the doctor present in the room besides Renu (Sumita Sanyal), attending to Anand. It is 4.15 early morning. The final moments arrive. Anand requests for the spool tape player to be put on. Prakash realizes – the worst is about to happen. He asks the attending nurse to prepare an injection. And while the tape is playing Anand calls out for Babu Moshai, and his breathing ceases. Prakash is stunned and cannot move. There is horror and grief and dejection writ large on his face. These moments, this expression, the welling of tears in his eyes, and the unwilling acceptance of a final defeat – left an imprint on my mind strong enough to now remember the name of this actor – Ramesh Deo.

And then, the familiar face with now a recognized name – I could see him in many more films that followed. I would also become familiar with his earlier roles in Hindi films starting with ‘Aarti’ in 1962. I would see these earlier films, later as reruns or on Doordarshan. And somehow, he always made an impact on my mind with his performances. In ‘Khilona’ (1970), as Kishore, the wayward ghar-jamaai (resident son-in-law) of the Thakur Suraj Singh’s (Bipin Gupta) household, he is hell bent on throwing out a pregnant Chand (Mumtaz) for obvious inheritance gains. In 1971, one sees him in ‘Mere Apne’ as Arun Gupta, a low middle income householder, who tricks an aged Anandi Devi (Meena Kumari) to come and live in his home as an unpaid full time servant. In ‘Joru Ka Ghulam’ (1972), he is Ramesh, the scheming nephew of the rich businessman Shyamlal (Om Prakash), who continuously siphons off part of whatever money he handles in the business.

Then in ‘Jeevan Mrityu’ (1970), he plays the role of barrister P Amarnath, one of the three baddies (along with Harishchandra (Ajit) and Ramakant (Krishan Dhawan)), who commit a fraud at a bank and implicate Ashok (Dharmendra). Later, when Ashok returns and plans revenge against these three, he first destroys them financially through stock market wrangling. At this point in the film, there is a scene with an excellent performance by Ramesh Deo. As the news comes in that all their investment is lost at the stock market, it effects the brain of barrister Amarnath, and he goes mad. There is a two minutes long sequence with an editing gap of 15 seconds in between, which is performed by him. He goes mad, he cries, he laughs, he proclaims he wants to be rich, and then he runs out of the office room. He meets Ashok outside. Ashok is supposedly dead. So there is now a reaction of fear and horror, he runs away from him, crashes into a parked car, then runs off on to the road and is hit by another car. This sequence which is about 700 feet of reel length is supposedly shot as a single performance sequence. His histrionics are impressive and authentic.

Ramesh Deo, a veteran of almost 300 Hindi films, about 200 Marathi films, 30 Marathi stage plays with almost a thousand live performances – passed away on 2nd February earlier this year. Besides the impressive portfolio of stage and screen performances, he also has to his credit being the producer of many TV serials, documentaries and approximately 250 ad films through his own production company – Ramesh Deo Productions. A part of this body of work was also directed by him.

He traces his ancestry to the Rajput clans of Jodhpur. His great grandfather and grandfather were engineers who were part of the team that built the Jodhpur palace. Later they were invited by Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur, for constructing newer parts of the city. His grandfather was appointed as the chief engineer of the project. Later, his father, who studied law, became the legal advisor in the city administration of Kolhapur.

Ramesh was born in Kolhapur on 30th January, 1926. After his normal school and college education, he got introduced to films through Dinkar Patel, a Marathi film maker, who was a family friend. Once when Dinkar Patel was filming in Kolhapur, Ramesh and a group of his friends went to see the shooting. Quite unexpectedly, Dinkar Patel invited the group to join a scene in a college sequence being filmed, as students. The film was ‘Paatlachi Por’ (released in 1951). As per Ramesh, it was by this chance participation that the film bug bit him, and he decided to make acting as a career. This is in 1950.

He started his career as a junior artist and soon graduated to featured roles. His first notable performance that received critical acclaim was as a villain in ‘Andhala Magto Ek Dola’ (1956). Later, he signed up as a villain for ‘Saata Janmaachaa Sobati’, but was offered the lead instead when the hero was removed. Never typecast, many of his films’ publicity material would have a teaser asking audiences to guess whether he was the hero or villain!

Through the 1950s, Ramesh confined himself to Marathi cinema and stage, Then happened a chance encounter. The drama troupe he was working with was traveling in the rural Maharashtra. Having tea at a roadside tea shop, he realized that no one knew him as an actor. He felt let down within, that after having worked in the industry for almost a decade, he was a nobody for the common man. The same common man would readily recognize and acknowledge Hindi film stars. And he made up his mind to move to Hindi cinema also.

His first role in a Hindi film was in ‘Aarti’ 1962. And after that there was no looking back. In film after film in the sixties, he made a mark for himself, and a firm position in the Hindi film industry as a character artist. At 96, when he passed away, he was still actively working. In a manner of speaking, he died literally with his boots on.

The song being presented today is from the film ‘Love And Murder’ from 1966. The film is produced under the banner of Adarshlok, Bombay and is directed by Raja Paranjape. The brief star cast is listed as Prithviraj, Ramesh Deo, Jaimala, Heeralal, Helen, Kammo, Edwina, and Chandrakant Gokhale. Ramesh Deo plays the role of Ranjit, apparently a small time con-man, but in reality he is the unknown boss of the underworld gang. The plot of the film is available on MuVyz website at Love And Murder – Plot.

On screen, the song is performed by Ramesh Deo. The quality of the video is not very good, and I am not able to identify the lady companion for whom Ramesh is lip syncing this song. I request other knowledgeable readers to please help identify the lady actor in this video clip.

Ramesh Deo – a lasting presence in Marathi and Hindi cinema. A career that goes from 1950 to 2022. Seventy two years of active work in the cinema and theater industry – this must be a record of some sort. He had completed 96 years of his life’s journey when he bid the forever good bye to the world. As mentioned earlier, literally with his boots on – still actively working when he passed away.

He leaves behind his wife and two sons. Seema Deo, his spouse of 59 years, is a lasting romance of his life. This must also be a record of some sorts – the two appeared in more than 50 films as husband wife or as lovers. Ramesh had first seen her in a suburban train while heading to a studio and realized that she too was looking for film work. “That day, I got a plum assignment. We introduced ourselves, became friends, and soon got married,” he had said. Today, their children, actor-filmmaker Ajinkya Deo and filmmaker Abhinay Deo (‘Delhi Belly’) have done them proud.

Peace and divinity be with you Ramesh Deo. It has been an especially long innings. You will always be remembered for the huge variety of roles that you presented.

Good Bye.

ye reshmi andhera
jo baney naseeb mera
ye reshmi andhera
jo baney naseeb mera
main na aaftaab dekhoon
main na aaftaab dekhoon
kabhi umr bhar khudaaya
tere gesuon ka saaya
meri jaan jis ne paaya
usey mil gayi khudaai
wo naseeb le ke aaya
tere gesuon ka saaya

is dil ki ye khata hai
ke ye tujh pe mar mita hai
is dil ki ye khata hai
ke ye tujh pe mar mita hai
isey kaise main sambhaloon
isey kaise main sambhaloon
ye to ho gaya paraaya
tere gesuon ka saaya
meri jaan jis ne paaya
usey mil gayi khudaai
wo naseeb le ke aaya
tere gesuon ka saaya

mere dil mein dard bhar de
ya jala ke khaaq kar de
mere dil mein dard bhar de
ya jala ke khaaq kar de
meri khaaq bhi kahegi
meri khaaq bhi kahegi
mujhe yaar ne mitaaya
tere gesuon ka saaya
meri jaan jis ne paaya
usey mil gayi khudaai
wo naseeb le ke aaya
tere gesuon ka saaya

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 57
————————————————————————————–

Welcome all to this post under ‘blog ten year challenge 2012-2022’.

Today we are celebrating eighty-third birth anniversary of one of the greatest music genius of our country Rahul Dev Burman  (27 June 1939 – 4 January 1994), or ‘Pancham’ Da as he is fondly known by all of us. Today we do have a movie under ‘Blog Ten-Years challenge’ where he has composed music. And in fact all the movies presented ten years back in 2012 on this day i.e. 27th June have their music composed by RD Burman only.

One song from this movie was presented on the blog on 27.06.2012 with other four movies that were represented on the blog that day. Yes! There were five songs posted on this day 27th June in ‘2012’.

I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Jheel Ke Us Paar’ (1973), which is the only movie from the above list not yet ‘Yippeee’ed’ on the blog.

‘Jheel Ke Us Paar’ was directed by Bhaapie Soni for his home productions. It had Dharmendra, Mumtaz, Prem Chopra, Junior Mehmood, Ranjeet, Fariyaal, Veena, Anwar Hussain, Iftekhar, Urmila Bhatt, Sujata, Polsan, Baby Chiku, Madan Keni, Rajan Kapoor, Altamash Gazanvi, Yogita Bali , Jagdish Raj (in Guest Apprearance) and Pran (Special Appearance). This movie was passed by Censor Board on 28.08.73 that is almost forty-nine years back now.

Lyricist for this song is Anand Bakshi and music is composed by RD Burman.

As I had mentioned in my earlier post I do remember to have watched this movie in my childhood days but have forgotten it now.

This movie had made its debut on the blog on 13.01.2012 with its song “Kya Nazaare Kyaa SitaareA wonderful song written by Anand Bakshi, and composed by Pancham Da and sung by none other than Kishore Kumar. This song is my one of the most favorite song from this movie.

The second song from this movie to come on the blog was “Baabul Tere Baagaan Di Main Bulbul“, another good song from this movie sung by Lata Mangeshkar. This was posted on the blog on 30.05.2012.

Another well-known and engrossing song from this movie sung by Lata Mangeshkar, “Chal Chale Ae Dil… Jheel Ke Us Paar“, was the third song posted from this movie on the blog, and this was exactly ten years back on 27.06.2012.

The fourth song from this movie was posted after a long gap on 27.04.2020 and this was the song “Do Ghoont Mujhe Bhi Pilaa De Sharaabi“, And the fifth song from this movie was posted recently on 30.05.2022 which was “Keh Rahe Hain Ye Aansoo Baraste Huye“. Singer for both these songs is Lata Mangeshkar.

Today’s song is the sixth and the final song from this movie, which is sung by Asha Bhonsle, this being the only song sung by her in this movie. On screen it is Yogeeta Bali is lip-syncing this song and she is trying to woo Dharmendra who is not at all interested in this ‘sensuous trap’ 🙂 and wants to leave the place immediately 🙂 .

Lyrics for the today’s song were sent by Prakashchandra.

Let us now listen to the today’s song and enjoy this musical creation by Pancham Da.
