Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 40
——————————————-
MOHABBAT KI JEET (1943) was produced under the banner of Girdhar Bahaar Productions and it was directed by Ramanlal Desai. The star cast included Nadia, Navinchandra, Leela Pawar, S Nazir, Shaqir, Agha, Munshi Kanzar, Vasantrao Pehlwan etc. From the star cast it can be safely assumed that the film belonged to the genre of stunt/action. I have no idea about the story of the film. But Nadia being the heroine in the film, one can expect that the story of the film would revolve around her role of striking out the forces of evil and restore goodness to the society. She would generally attain this by doing spectacular stunts and acrobatics which would please the front benchers in the theatres.

Today’s song for discussion is from a film which is actually…according to some people…”out of Syllabus” for me. The film is Andaz Apna Apna – 1994 and the lovely duet is sung by Vicky Mehta and Behroze Chatterjee.

Genius of Jaidev – 47
————————–
1978 social Film ‘Tumhare Liye’ which was produced by ‘Tilak Movies, Bombay’ and directed by Basu Chaterjee, failed at the Box office, may be due to the story of superstitious re-birth theme. It had a good cast including Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Neelam Mehra, Indrani Mukherjee, Anita Guha, A K Hungal, Pinchu Kapur, Dinsh Hingu, Brahm Bharadwaj, Ratnamala, Suresh Chatwal, Vijay Hungal, Surendra Rahi, Javed, Ratna, Mumtaz, Kamal Khanna, Pamela, Jajbel, Paro, Sarita, Tina, etc. As if these stars were not enough to make a successful film, Zarina Wahab and Om Shivpuri appeared as guest artists. The songs of the film ware tuned to the lyrics of Naksh Layalpuri, by genius Jaidev, and were very popular among the lovers of ‘class’ music.

The decade of the 1950’s saw meteoric rise of O P Nayyar quickly going to the Top within 4 years after his first film Aasmaan-52. He also had another honour.
