ASAD 10th Anniversary Celebrations – 13
———————————————————————

“Love is so short, forgetting is so long” – ah, this quote by Pablo Neruda! How true it is!! So simple yet so profound. . .  Don’t we all agree? Love, that feeling which each and every living being experiences for sure in its lifetime. Each one of us would have definitely celebrated it many times in our lives.

And this feeling is celebrated in this song too. Naqsh Lyallpuri, the lyricist puts it down so very simply. The pain of love is sweet and lovable. Its beautiful and it is the sustenance of two hearts that are in love. Love is serene and at the same time exciting. Lovers meet every day but that is inadequate, the longing to meet again remains. Hunger for the loved feeling, however much it is satisfied by these meetings, it remains. It is a feeling, a feeling forever. This is how the lyricist expresses the feeling in this song. His choice of words is simple, the lines are short but very effective in conveying the sentiment. Khayyaam, one of my favourite music composers has composed a distinctive kind of tune. The singing of Asha and Kishore is adorable.

Coming back to Pablo Neruda (12 Jul, 1904 – 23 Sep, 1973), the poet I alluded to in the beginning. He is a very well-known poet from Chile, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. He was also a diplomat and politician. This is a rare combination I feel, a poet and a politician!! Very unique. He is known for love poems. I found these lines by him fascinating.

He who does not travel, who does not read,
who does not listen to music,
who does not find grace in himself,
she who does not find grace in herself,
dies slowly.

Anybody that agrees with the quote? Yes, we do. At least, the majority of us. For few it is “Love is for lifetime etc.”. For people who don’t fall into either category, they should do this – “Miley Na Phool To Kaanton Se Dosti Kar Lee“.

Ah, this is the first song posted by our indefatigable Atul ji. From then to now, it is has been a decade. I am yet to find a person who is as consistent as Atul ji. His very able co-travellers, Sudhir ji and Arun ji are no less consistent. All these three are tireless wayfarers of the musical journey that is our blog. Arun ji is in fact the Bhishm Pitamah of Hindi Films. How can I forget the others? I cannot, they all contribute regularly. Each of them is unique in their own ways.  Unlike me who makes a guest appearance now and then!! Well, I was prodded by Sudhir ji into writing this. I feel grateful to him that he has not forgotten a nacheez like me. I am thankful to Raja ji for allowing to write on a song which he intended to write on. And to Avinash ji for providing the lyrics and all meta-data associated with song. And to Pradeep for being an inspiration. There I go accusing him again! Thank you all 😊

I am sure that the journey will continue until the end of our days on this beautiful Earth. Let us contradict Neruda now. Love for music is so long and cannot be forgotten. Neruda, are you listening? I am being a little cheeky 😉

Here is wishing the blog a long and musically fulfilled life!!

Atul ji’s 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 12
———————————————————————-

Atul ji has become a legend now 🙂 . Anybody disagrees? I dont think so. Who else has achieved what he has achieved – a mammoth task of collecting information about 10,000 songs and then writing/sharing the same with like-minded enthusiasts. A monumental work, unselfish to the core. What sacrifices he must have made, how much time he would have spent, what passion he must be having to carry on blogging relentlessly for almost 9 years!! You would get an idea of it when you go through one of his write-ups for the song “Kitne Bhi Tu Kar Le Sitam“. Forget about miserly people running such a blog, it is not a possibility at all. Even a person earning good amount of money would hesitate to do it. You will understand my statement in its full extent only if you read the above-mentioned write-up.

How nice it would be to be pampered as soon as you get up-with scores of attendants waiting upon you? Ah, indulgence. Mumtaz I envy you ?

Well, I am not crazy. But just crazy about a song from “Samson” in which Mumtaz is the lady who is the privileged one. The picturization shows a princess getting from her bed. A princess whose bed is made up of light and soft feathers, with satin sheets and all ……. A horde of lady attendants waiting on her before she even opens her eyes! The attendants runs up and down fetching her an overcoat, soft/comfy slippers etc. On top of it, there is a lady, Ameeta, singing to her a kind of suprabhaat. Our princess gets praised for her beauty and her youth early in the morning just like the Gods get praised for their magnanimity and benevolence. There is a tinge of sadness in the singer’s expressions which is ever so slight. Does she have dreams of her own pleading with God and is she like a worshipper whose entreaties are shoved to a corner by the Almighty?? May be so ?

Journey Through Lata’s Melodies – 01

I was thinking of writing a post for a long time but never put thoughts into digital format. I am “The” Ms. Lazybones 🙂

Finally, thanks to the mail thread about the November 7th Gangout in Bangalore which is currently in progress with lots of enthusiasm, I am ready with a post.

In the mail thread, our own Sudhir ji added Srinivas Ganti ji inviting him to the gangout. Though Ganti ji is unable to attend it, he shared with us an article written by him on few of Lata ji’s melodies. Being a die-hard fan of Lata ji, I was completely bowled over. I immediately mailed Ganti ji about re-using his article in a series of posts. I didn’t expect him to reply so fast, I got a reply within one hour. Permission was granted 🙂 Not only that, he even shared a link where transliteration of the lyrics were made available by none other than him.

This song is from a movie called “Namumkin” from the year 1988. It is one of the lesser known movies directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. His other movies are considered masterpieces but not this one it seems.

My first post was about a girl singing about how she is feeling after falling in love. The next post was about the feelings of a girl about to be married. This one is about a girl who is being teased for her strange behavior after falling in love with the eternal one, “Krishna”. Hindi films are mostly about love in different settings, situations. Some probably think that this limits the scope of our films. But I say, why not? We should celebrate the strongest of emotions which is love, isn’t it? If all people start loving each other and there is no hatred …… This belongs to an utopian world, like my favorite song “aa chal ke tujhe”. If only this is possible….

Atul Song-A-Day 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 3
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I was pleasantly surprised when I read the mail from Sudhirji in which he asked me to contribute a post for our blog. This was for celebrating the milestone event of 10000 posts on “atulsongaday.me” and I understood that all previous contributors were similarly requested. I was surprised because my contribution was only 1 post till then. To be even considered worthy enough for such a big event? It totally floored me. But by the time I decided to say yes, unfortunately, I had broken my right wrist. Luckily I had a post ready with me which I had sent to Atulji earlier. It had remained unpublished. I am sure he would have put it up if I had not mentioned that I did not consider it good enough for the blog. He must have thought “why upload it when the lady thinks it is not up to standards”. Right Atulji? As circumstances would have it, here comes that post without any modifications

Hmm, at last I started writing my first blog. I was thinking of doing this for a long, long time. Ever since I came to know about a very benevolent soul who lets all who want to write, to write on his blog. It is so sweet of him, I used to think. But didn’t do it for various reasons. Most of all, my laziness. Now I have shook off my laziness and am presenting my thoughts ….. Hope Atulites don’t mind it (provided of course Atul finds my writing worthy enough to be published). Published, oh that is a big word to use. My first publication, if and when that happens, I will be flying in air like the girl in the song I am discussing here. Now, please don’t ask me how else one can fly, one can only fly in air. 🙂
