In the beginning years of this millennium, we among the last dwellers of last millennium, were kept mesmerized with old Hindi film songs. This was a willing intoxication, which made it possible to deal all difficulties, happiness, sadness, tragedies etc. that life chose to throw at us. Often the songs that played randomly in a collection of songs playing on computer would become a subject of discussion. Once, a close friend said she like this song by Mohammed Rafi Sb a lot:
baa-hosh-o-hawaas mein deewaanaa
ye aaj waseeyat kartaa hoon
ye dil ye jaan mile tumko
main tumse muhabbat kartaa hoon
This song from the film ‘Night In London’ (1967) is posted here.
Another colleague/friend once spoke of this song from ‘Aaye Din Bahaar Ke’ (1966) – “Mere Dushman Tu Meri Dosti Ko Tarse“. Now this song is very interesting in its lyrics/poetry which is actually cursing the beloved. Total and full of ‘bad-duaa’ ie ill wishing – it is to be seen to be believed, what all the poet is wishing on his beloved friend.
mere dil se sitamgar toone achchi dillagi ki hai
ke banke dost apne doston se dushmani ki hai
mere dushman tu meri dosti ko tarse
mujhe gham dene waale tu khushi ko tarse
tu phool bane patjhad kaa, tujh pe bahaar na aaye kabhi
meri hi tarah tu tadpe tujhko qaraar na aaye kabhi
jiye tu is tarah ke zindagi ko tarse
itnaa to asar kar jaayen meri wafaayen o bewafaa
ik roz tujhe yaad aayen apni jafaayen o bewafaa
pashemaan hoke roye, tu hansi ko tarse
tere gulshan se zyaadaa veeraan koyi veeraanaa na ho
is duniyaa mein koyi teraa apnaa to kyaa, begaanaa na ho
kisi kaa pyaar kyaa tu berukhi ko tarse
Just falling short of wishing death! ‘jiye tu iss tarah ke zindagi ko tarse’. There are numerous songs of this situation in Hindi films, too many to count actually. In the 60’s it can be said, that every other film had this situation song, where the hero or the heroine is wronged, and singing a song lamenting the bewafaai of the beloved. But I have looked all over the blog and I could not find any other song so full of curses. And this is also the only song on the blog, which is tagged as ‘hate song’ category. The song still sounds so believable and not odd at all. All the credit to the team of composers, lyricist and the singer. For this would easily have gone wrong.
There are some more songs, which have somewhat similar emotions and ill-wishes expressed in different forms. I made a list of songs with those varied expressions.

Here is a list of some of my all-time favourite songs by Rafi sahab in the similar situations:
Patthar Ke Sanam Tujhe Hum Ne Mohabbat Ka Khuda Jaana – ‘Patthar Ke Sanam’ (1967)
Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein Tujhko Bitha Kar – ‘Brahmchari’ (1968)
Aaj Ki Raat Mere Dil Ki Salaami Le Le – ‘Ram Aur Shyam’ (1967)
Dil Jo Na Keh Saka – ‘Bheegi Raat’ (1965)
Teri Zulfon Se Judaai To Nahin Maangi Thi – ‘Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai’ (1961)
Rang Aur Noor Ki Baraat Kise Pesh Karun – ‘Ghazal’ (1964)
There are more similar/different songs created for Hindi films for such situations, where dejected lovers either drown in self-pity or end up giving ‘bad-dua’ in a smaller/kinder way, to the beloved. But most songs of this genre are praying for the happiness of the beloved, who has deceived them, has indulged in ‘bewafaai’ for want of similar expressive word in the English language. An excellent case in point is this pensive Lata song – “Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Ye“, filmed on Meena Kumari in ‘Dil Apna Aur Preet Paraai’ (1960). Shankar-Jaikishan and Shailendra created this classic song with just the right touch of melancholy and congratulatory mood. With a dose of resignation.
Most songs in this genre, also turn out to be popular, be it the pensive songs of Mukesh, Lata, Suraiyya, Talat Mehmood or Mohammed Rafi. So the well known songs are all posted. Looking for the theme, I ended up with “Tu Pyaar Hai Kisi Aur Ka” song in ‘Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin’ (1991) by Kumar Sanu. Quite a decent composition with innovative lyrics, that one.
I was sure all well-known Rafi songs in this genre are posted. But as luck would have it, I found the link of this Rafi solo in one of my saved files, which I was just randomly checking. This is a well-known song from the film ‘Dhadkan’ (1972). Composer is Ravi who also wrote this song with Ali Jalili. Ali Jalili is an unknown poet for the blog, as this is the first song by him to be posted. Avinash ji is doing a series of 70’s decade missing movies, so he may be able to find some other films where Ali Jalili has written lyrics. Ali Jalili has written one more song in the same film with Ravi, “Tumse Nazar Mili”, which was also used for advertisement of different products. My guess is he must be someone connected with advertising jingles, more so as he has collaborated with Ravi, not a regular poet for writing the two songs in this film.
The song is filmed as a wedding reception song, where Sanjay Khan is singing this song for congratulating the bride Mumtaz and groom Roopesh Kumar. The real feelings of Sanjay Khan are evident, but he is trying to disguise them and give blessings to the couple.
Two songs of the film are already posted in the blog, so this is the 3rd song.
Jab Toone Kuchh Na Kiya
Main To Chala Jidhar Chale Rasta
I have done posts of some songs of the late 70’s and early 80’s, but very few songs of early 70’s. This song has a very deeply meaningful and emotional core, as we expect from Ravi’s compositions usually. There is the Punjabi dholak music in the background which carries the rhythm of the song. And Rafi Sb’s singing is again out of this world. For me this is a known song, as it used to be played regularly on radio. Again, when one really listens to it with a critical ear, with the aim of judging its merit with other such type of songs, a few are listed above, it is revealed as a fabulous song on all counts. More fabulous for being a 70’s song. By now Ravi is a seasoned and senior composer, with huge successes behind him and much more experience of how to get the best out of Rafi. And Rafi Sb has delivered spectacularly in this song, the only one in the film. Subtle changes in the way some words are sung in every repeated line, and those are again different for every time he sings the mukhda. I refuse to believe that anyone else could do so much variation in a single voice, same rhythm and level, two stanza song, in live recording.
The pauses in the lines and words of a line, and starting the next word at the same level as before the pause, what superb control in the vocals. I am not a technical person, in the matter of singing, but if anyone can explain this phenomenon to me, I will be thankful to them. It sounds as a modern-day recording done bit by bit, line by line, and mixed afterwards. Practice makes things perfect and well-rehearsed is the forte of Rafi Sb. But the question is how well rehearsed and how much perfect. I can just conclude that the farishta in the guise of a singer is giving the same dedicated 200 % to a song composed for a new actor of 70’s, as he gave to all his songs, repeated in live shows, which won him accolades and a place is history.

Missing Films of 1960s – 117
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
A surprise discovery if ever there was one. And I have missed it all these years, having see this film long back.
‘Saara Akaash’ from 1969 – it has always been represented and listed as a songless film. This impression is so much ingrained into the system and it never came to mind to consider otherwise. So it was a great surprise to come across this clip from the film on YouTube. And suddenly the memories of this film had to be modified.
‘Sara Aakash’ (‘The Whole Sky’) is a film based on the novel of the same name, written by Rajendra Yadav. This was Yadav’s debut novel. The film marks the debut of Basu Chatterjee as director, and was also the first film of cinematographer KK Mahajan. The film has background score by Salil Chaudhry.
The film is regarded as one of those which pioneered the New Wave cinema in India, along with ‘Uski Roti’ and ‘Bhuvan Shome’ which were also released the same year.
The star cast of the film includes Rakesh Pandey, Madhu Chakravarty, Nandita Thakur, AK Hangal, Dina Pathak, Mani Kaul, Shaily Shailendra, Jalaal Agha, Tarla Mehta, Aarti Boley and Om Prakash Gautam amongst others. Renowned film maker Mani Kaul appeared in this film, in what is considered as his only substantial screen appearance.
Set in the contemporary mid 1960s milieu of a traditional middle class joint family in Agra, the film deals with internal conflicts of a newlywed couple, both of whom find themselves unprepared for domestic life. Agra-based collegian, Samar Thakur (Rakesh Pandey), lives in a joint family consisting of his father (AK Hangal), mother (Dina Pathak), brother Amar (Mani Kaul) and his wife (Tarla Mehta); as well as a married sister, Munni, estranged from her husband. Samar is is prevailed upon by the family to marry Prabha (Madhu Chakravarty), a matriculate, much to his chagrin as this interferes with his future plans. The marriage does take place, and he soon finds that they are incompatible. The matters come to a head and Prabha leaves her matrimonial home to return to her parent’s home. She returns after four months. Family tensions continue, but then also we see a bonding emerge between the two, moving towards a healthy understanding.
KK Mahjan received the 1969 National Award for B&W cinematography, and Basu Chatterji received the Filmfare award for best screenplay.
The discovery of this background song in the film changes the status of this film, and it now becomes the 117th episode in the series on Missing Films of 1960s.
The song itself is a piece of traditional music of North India, and is played at wedding time. The words of this song indicate that the ladies on the girl’s side are singing this song, addressing the groom and tell him things about the members of his family, in a good spirited banter.
There is another version of this traditional song – it has been used in the film ‘Dushmani’ (1995). In this version, the song is presented as a praise for the bride, as she gets ready for the wedding ceremony and is being adorned with fine dress and jewellery. The song is available on YouTube as “Banno Teri Ankhiyaan Surmedaani“. On screen this song is performed by Neena Gupta.
A couple of interesting trivia.
The film ‘Saara Akaash’ was shot in the residential house of Rajendra Yadav. On a visit, when Basu Chatterji saw the house, his response was that this is the perfect setting for the film.
Dina Pathak appears in both films – in ‘Saara Akaash’ as the mother of the protagonist. In ‘Dushmani’ she appears at the grandmother of the bride Manisha Koirala.
With this post we have brought on board the 117th film in this series.

I am not well-informed about Hindi films of 1980s and beyond, except about those that I have watched in the theatres or on Video sharing platforms. Between the late 1960s and early 1970s, I used to watch almost one film every week either on Saturdays or Sundays. My ‘over-exposure’ to films, mostly masala films, during this period created an aversion in me that discuraged me from watch theese films in the later years. Probably the theory of diminishing marginal utility was being applied to me. Over a period of time, my quota of watching films came down from once a week to 2-3 films a year which is still in force. Because of this, I have missed many entertaining and a few quality films released especially in 80s and 90s.
It may sound strange but until yesterday, I was not aware that there was a film titled ‘Swati’ (1986). I do not recall having heard about this film from any one of my relatives and friends who have interest in Hindi films. What attracted me to know more about this film was that first, it was a film from a well-known banner, Prasad Productions. Secondly, its ensemble of star cast included Shashi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, Meenakshi Seshadri, Madhuri Dixit, Vinod Mehra, Sarika, Akbar Khan among others. I was not aware that Meenakshi Seshadri and Madhuri Dixit had worked together in a film. I came to know later that both of them had earlier worked together in ‘Aawaara Baap’ (1985).
From the synopsis of the film’s story, it appeared that Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore worked in this film in the role of an elderly couple. The combination of the actors under a well-known film production banner motivated me to watch the film, the DVD of which was available on-line. The film was a remake of a Telugu film of the same title which was released in 1984 and became the box office hit. The film was also remade in Kannada as ‘Usha’ (1986). The story of the film is as under:
Dr. Rajendra (Shashi Kapoor) is a doctor who runs a nursing home. Sharda (Sharmila Tagore) works as a nurse with Rajendra. An event in her life has happened which has forced her to live a life in anonymity and as a single mother (I will not go into the details). She has a grown up daughter, Swati (Meenakshi Seshadri). She is under the impression that her father has deserted her mother which had made her a feminist and outspoken. She hates hypocrisies and prejudices which dominate our society.
During one of her argumentative encounters with a group of males, Swati meets Ram Mohan (Akbar Khan) who is associated with some leftist group and always seen with writing slogans on the walls. After the initial hate relations with Ram Mohan, Swati falls in love with him. Dr. Rajendra has been a widower with a grown-up daughter, Anandi (Madhuri Dixit), a tomboyish type girl. She is in love with Kapil (Raja Bundela) simply because her idol is cricketer, Kapil Dev. She is also fond of asking her father as well Kapil puzzles to solve.
Swati thinks that after her marriage with Ram Mohan, her mother will be left alone. She needs a companion. Swati knows that her mother and Dr Rajendra like each other but due to societal constraints, both can not think of upgrading their fondness into a life partnership. Swati persuades her mother and Dr Rajendra to get married. His daughter, Anandi is happy that she would get a mother. The marriage takes place and Swati and her mother shift to Dr. Rajendra’s house. Things are now well settled. Both Swati and Anandi gel very well too. Anandi’s marriage with Kapil is also fixed.
One day, Swati finds an old man lying on the road unconscious. She takes him to Dr. Rajendra’s nursing home. The patient come into consciousness and tells his life story to Swati. It becomes apparent that he is Satya Prakash, Sharda’s fiancé and Swati’s real father. If the real story comes into light, it may affect the marriage of Anandi with Kapil. It is also likely to affect the relations of Rajendra and Sharda. But Swati steers the unforeseen problem taking into the confidence Rajendra after revealing him the real story and taking a promise from him that he would not reveal his patient’s identity to her mother. Satya Prakash knows that he has no chance of survival. His wish is to see Sharda for the last time.
On the day of marriage of Anandi with Kapil, Both Rajendra and Swati arrange to bring Satya Prakash to the marriage venue. He gets to see Sharda during the marriage ceremony from a balcony. After the kanyadan ceremony is over, Satya Prakash is happy to see Sharda. With happiness displayed over his face, Satya Prakash dies.
I found the film in keeping with tradition of Prasad Productions which is known for producing films in the genre of family drama. In the standard of 1980s, the story of the film is bold and broad-minded. From the title of the film, it is apparent that it is Meenakshi Seshadri’s film. I have not seen any film of Meenakshi Seshadri. So, it is the first time I am watching her performance in this film which is outstanding. She has displayed all the moods of her character in the film – from a hard-core feminist, a kind hearted daughter for her mother as well for those affected by the prejudice towards them in the society. Her best scene is the poignant moments in the film when she has to solve the issues arising out of a sudden appearance of real father. Madhuri Dikshit as a step sister of Meenakshi Seshadri has a light comical role which she performs very well. She has a lively presence in the film. Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore in the role of elderly couple look elegant. Dialogues by Rahi Masoom Reza is catchy.
Despite having good share of melodramatic contents, the film is not a tear-jerker. I found the film absorbing.
‘Swati’ (1986) had 5 songs none of which has been represented in the Blog. I present the first song from the film ‘shaadi mubaarak bole shehnaayi’ to appear on the Blog. The song is sung by Anuradha Paudwal and Alka Yagnik. The words are that of Anand Bakshi which are set to music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. It is a marriage song picturised on Meenakshi Seshadri and Madhuri Dixit on the occasion of the marriage of their parents Sharmila Tagore and Shashi Kapoor.
With this, ’Swati’ (1986) makes its debut on the Blog.

Today (4 November 2020) is the 91st birth anniversary of Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal (4 November 1929 – 12 September 1971), one half of the legendary Shankar Jaikishan musical duo. The golden era of HFM started in 1949. Shankar Jaikishan were there right from the beginning. They ruled the roost in HFM for two decades. After that, the duo got separated in unfortunate circumstances, with the untimely death of Jaikishan at the the age of just 41. It is unbelievable but true that he had started at the age of 19 and he had achieved so much by the time he was 41 that the body of his work has gone on the become some of the best and immortal music that the golden era of HFM had given us.
After the demise of Jaikishan, Shankar continued giving music with the same brandname of Shankar Jaikishan. But the music created without Jaikishan was not the same.
Here is the full filmography of Shankar Jaikishan as music directors in Hindi movies :-

Overall, Shankar Jaikishan composed about 1200 songs in all. 985 of these songs, including bulk of their golden era compositions from 1949 till early 1970s are already covered in the blog. The gave music in 169 movies. 112 of these movies have already been YIPPEED in the blog.
As a tribute of Jaikishan, here is a song from “Zindagi”(1964). It is one of the few unYIPPEED movies of Shankar Jaikishan from the golden era. This movie was directed by Ramanand Sagar for Gemini , Madras. This “social” movie had Vyjyanti Mala, Rajendra Kumar, Raj Kumar, Mehmood, Jayant, Jeewan, Kanhaiyalal, Dhumal, Hiralal, Master Shahid, Prithviraj Kapoor, Helen, Leela Chitnis, Mumtaz Begam, Pushpawalli etc in it.
The movie had twelve songs in it. Eleven of these songs have been covered in the past. Here is the twelfth and final song from the movie.
This song is sung by Lata and Asha Bhonsle. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist.
The song is picturised as a synchronised mujra dance song at a wedding reception. I am unable to identify the two female dancers. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.
The picturised version is partial. The audio version is longer. Still, the picturised version has a stanza that is not there in the audio version.
With this song, all the twelve songs from “Zindagi”(1964) are covered in the blog and the movie joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.

Song-Chhoone na doongi main haath re (Zindagi)(1964) Singers-Lata, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
main tumhaari hoon
mujhe paas bulaa kar dekho
meri raahon mein zara khud ko mitaa kar dekho
apne daaman pe koi aanch na aane doongi
chaahe har din mujhe pehlu mein bithhaa kar dekho
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa
aage badhe na koi baat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
meri mehfil mein ye mat aane chale aate hain
chhod(?) kar shamma ko parwaane chale aate hain
main wo baazi hoon jise koi na jeeta ab tak
khelne phir bhi ye deewaane chale aate hain
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
khaayenge ye sab maat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
dil ki hasrat na kabhi dil se nikalne doongi
pyaar kaa koi bhi jaadu ko na chalne dungi
ishq ki aag badi tez hai humne maanaa
dil ke moti ko main hargiz na pighalne doongi
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
hoti rahegi mulaakaat re
najariyoo se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyo se dil bhar doongi
Meri aankhon mein ik sapna hai

With this writeup, the blog now has 4000 movies represented in the blog.
Blog Day : |
3716 | Post No. : | 14646 | Movie Count : |
4000 |
We in this blog often reach milestones that I describe as “artificial” milestones. These are “artificial” in the sense that we can only be aware of them if we keep track of them. Earlier we were not aware of them.
For instance, the blog has crossed 3700 days of existence. We first became aware of this kind of milestone only on the occasion of the blog reaching 3400 days.
Ever since, we have also had “milestones” like a pair of singers reaching centuries of their duets. For instance, we recently reached 500 duets of Rafi-Asha Bhonsle.
YIPPEE movies and Debutant movies also yield such milestones to us. We reached 1000 YIPPEE movies in the blog and subsequently 1100 YIPPEE movies.
The present milestone pertains to debutant movies. So far we have reached 3999 movies in the blog. This writeup introduces the 4000th movie to the blog. Yes, the blog, with this song, now has songs from exactly 4000 movies.
In the blog, we have songs from every year, beginning from the earliest year (1931) to the latest viz. the current year (2018).
With this song, the blog now has songs from 4000 movies. while most movies are Hindi movies, we also have some songs from other languages, viz regional languages/ dialects movies and even some international movies. Then there are some movies which were either unreleased or whose year of release are not known. The number of such movies being 78.
The decade of 1950s is the most well represented decade in the blog. 1111 movies were released in this decade (from 1951 to 1960) and there were 35 unreleased movies as well in this decade. As many as 1014 movies from this decade are represented in the blog. 1960s is the second most well represented blog. As many as 842 movies (out of 929 movies released this decade, plus 31 unreleased movies and 34 regional movies)are showcased in the blog.
Titles of these movies begin with all letters of Roman Alphabet except X. The letter S is the most common letter in this respect. As many as 489 movies had their titles beginning with S. A comes second with 390 movie titles.
In the earlier years of the blog, we were not keeping track of such matters. It was sometime in july 2016 that our beloved Khyati Bhatt, after receiving her set of HFGK carried out a thorough research on the movies of 1960s. She prepared an excel sheet and shared that with me and Sudhir Jee. That excel sheet had details about the number of movies of 1960s represented in the blog and the number of movies (with their details) that were missing. That was the homework given to Sudhir Jee. That excel sheet mentioned the fact that there were 942 movies in the decade and 695 of them were represented in the blog. So 238 movies of that decade were missing from the blog.
That excel sheet was made and shared with us on 19 july 2016 (8th birthday of the blog). And how well Sudhir Jee coped with this homework. He tracked songs of many of these elusive movies of 1960s and kept introducing these movies to the blog. Now, a little over two years later, we have 843 movies of 1960s represented in the blog. So as many as 139 elusive movies of 1960s have been introduced in the blog after july 2016. Credit goes to Khyati Jee for her research work and then to Sudhir Jee for following up on that research work with his own mission of locating the songs of these elusive movies.
This also gave me an idea that I on my own should carry out similar exercises for the other decades as well. That led to my own excel sheet where I began to keep track of movies of particular years that were covered in the blog and that had not been covered. This list turned out to of great help for me in looking for specific movies, and that made my searches more focused and purposeful.
It was as a result of this exercise that I was aware of the fact that the blog was reaching 3400th song from the decade of 1960s when the blog was on the verge of reaching 3400 days of its existence. That is how I was able to coincide these two rare and special occurences by posting the 3400th song post of 1960s on 3400th day of the blog.
Now, after this focussed exercise of introducing “debutant” movies in the blog on a regular manner, we have reached a stage when introducing more movies from 1950s and 1960s has become tough. 99 movies of 1960s and 134 movies of 1950s are now left to be covered and these movies are not easy to locate. As for earlier decades, availability of movies from these decades is even more limited. 1238 movies were made in 1940s and this blog now has 761 of them. My guess is that we may end up with a figure just above 800 for this decade before we find ourselves unable to locate any more “new” movies from the decade.
As for the decade of 1930s, 177 movies are represented in the blog. Some 931 movies were made in that decade but more than 700 of these movies along with their songs are lost forever, so in effect majority of songs available from the decade of 1930s are already showcased in the blog.
That leaves the decade of 1970s and also beyond as the decades from where most of our remaining unrepresented movies will have to come. !970s was the last decade of the golden era of HFM. It was the decade when I grew up. This decade saw 1327 movies being released. The blog so far has 769 movies of this decade in the blog.
I have decided to go for a “new” movie as the 4000th movie in the blog. This movie is from 1980s though the song itself was recorded in the decade of 1970s. In other words, it is a golden era song which was released after the golden era of HFM was over.
The movie is “Videsh”(1984). It was produced by Sheetal S Johal and Avatar Bhogal and directed by Avtar Bhogal ABC Films International. The movie had Mahendra Sandhu, Shoma Anand, Diljeet Kaur, Iftikhar, Urmila Bhatt, Sudhir, Surendra Nath, Tom Gormley, Sam, Harmeet Singh, Sukhwant Dhadha, Rajendr Kumar Sharma, Surendra Malhotra and above all Prem Kishan. 🙂 and Premnath, with friendly appearances by Satyen Kappu, Chaand Usmani, guest appearance by Paintal. Avatar Bhogal, Seetal S Johal.
The movie had five songs in it. This song is the first song from the movie to appear in the blog ofcourse. The song is a picturised as a get together song cum marriage reception song. The song is sung by Rafi and Pankaj Mitra. Sapan Jagmohan composed the music. This movie had two lyricists (Kulwant Jani and Prem Jallandhari)but the disribution of songs among them is not known.
The song is lip synced by Prem Kishan (in Rafi’s voice) and Mahendra Sandhu (in disguise- I hope I have identified him correctly) in Pankaj Mitra’s voice.
He looks like an ugly version of Rishi Kapoor- that is what a comment in YT says. The commentator may not be aware that this resemblance in not a coincidence. This actor and Rishi Kapoor are sons of siblings. Rishi Kapoor is the son of Krishna Kapoor where as Prem Kishan is the son of Premnath (brother of Krishna Kapoor). So Prem Kishan and Rishi Kapoor are cousins. And that is where this resemlance comes from. Prem Kishan may not have become as successful as his cousin, but let us not forget that he too had his moments in Hindi movies. He was the hero of the blockbuster Rajshree Productions movie “Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) and the famous song, Khushiyaan hi khushiyaan hon daaman mein jiske was picturised on him.
So, here is this forgotten gem of a song from 1980s. With this song, “Videsh”(1984) makes its debut in the blog and becomes the 4000th movie to get introduced in the blog. The song also has a slower, sad version, whose lyrics are not different from the longer happy version. Both versions are included below.
Today is 3716th day for the blog. 4000 movies in 3716 days means that we on an average introduce one “new” movie to the blog daily. Quite a decent rate, I would think.
PS-The Punjabi words sung by Pankaj Mitra and noted by me may not be accurate. So I request our Punjabi knowing regulars to suggest corrections in the lyrics as applicable.
