This is a song from MUSAFIR-57, a film in the 50s, which became famous for its different presentation style. It was,in fact, not one continuous story, but a collection of 3 stories, taking place in one house. The Voice of Mukesh #19
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

‘Do Dil’ from 1947, turned out to be quite a bonanza for Mukesh. Thus far, the film 1945 ‘Pehli Nazar’ had been good, with four songs by him. In this film, Pt. Gobindram got Mukesh to sing as many as six songs. Three of these are solo, and three are duets – two with Suraiyyaa and one with Rajkumari. Two solos and two duets are already represented on this blog. With this post, I bring to this blog, the third remaining solo song by Mukesh, for your listening pleasure.

A young Anil Biswas is preparing to record a song for a newly arrived Heroine-RATTAN BAI. She had come from Calcutta, after working in the big banner ” New Theatres”. Having worked in films like ‘Subah ka Sitara’ and Yahudi ki Ladki-1933, with the legendary singer Sehgal, her name had become famous already. I first heard this private song of Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh, in the film ‘Hero’ (1983). In a scene in the film Meenakshi Sheshadri is seen moping around and listening to this song on a cassette player. Just a few lines are heard before the scene continues on, but later on we got to hear the whole song in a cassette of this duo’s ghazals. I do not remember the name of the collection. It may have been ‘classic collection’ .

This is the last song from the film Ajanabee. This is one of the lesser known songs from this movie. From its sound it hardly seems to be from Pancham except at times during the interludes. A common situation in Indian films for songs is where the lovers reach a village or a tribal camp on one of their rendezvous. Once there, they are persuaded by the locals to participate in their dance and song item. Sometimes the pair starts imagining themselves in the situation of the leading pair singing and dancing.
