Hullo Atuldom
Todays’ song is from a forgotten movie of the late 1970s “Bagula Bhagat” (1979). It was directed by Harmesh Malhotra and produced by Gullu Sippy. It had a cast of Ashok Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Shabana Azmi, Kamini Kaushal, Padma Khanna, Mehmood Jr. etc. I think I saw a short video of the movie online somewhere and think I spied Anwar Hussain and Goga Kapoor as his henchman. It had music by Kalyanji Anandji and songs written by Anjaan. Kishore Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor, Amit Kumar and Asha Bhonsle as playback singers. The movie was written by Subhash Ghai and Bhalla.
I have no clue about the story of the movie, date of release etc. I landed on this movie in my quest for a song lip-synced by Ashok Kumar and sung by Kishore Kumar. I found the video of the movie on YouTube which is uploaded in three parts. It begins with a convict’s failed attempt at jumping a prison. Shatrughan Sinha plays a smart-alec who does small odd jobs of helping smugglers transport their illicit stuff for small remunerations. He is assigned a task by Anwar Hussain to help someone escape from prison.
The song with this post is when Shatru lands in prison to finish the assignment given and sees Ashok Kumar being hailed as a prisoner who is well known amongst inmates. Kishore Kumar is the voice for his brother Ashok Kumar and Amit Kumar sings for Shatru.
The song reminds of ‘do bechaare bina sahare’, from Victoria No. 203. There was a period in the 70s when we had many such Kishore Kumar- Ashok Kumar songs meaning Kishoreda singing for Dada Moni. And my hope is that we don’t run out of such songs as they are best to remember the brothers on their anniversaries. 13th October is Dada Moni Ashok Kumar’s birth anniversay and Kishoreda’s death anniversary. This pair of brothers have been responsible for entertaining audiences from the 30s when Dada Moni stepped into Bombay Talkies as lab assistant. And after a few years he stepped in front of the camera it is a different matter that he had not hankered after that career. He was busy in front of the screen for almost six decades.
Kishoreda, Dada Moni’s youngest brother, began his career as a chorus singer at Bombay Talkies and got his first independent break in 1948 with “Ziddi”. His first screen appearance may have been in 1946 “Shikari” which starred his older brother but he played the lead for the first time in 1951. He has more discography to his name compared to filmography. But this was one entertaining family where their sister was married to a producer, their other brother was also an actor. Amit Kumar followed his dad of being a singer/actor and Preethi Ganguly also went on to become an actor. Dada Moni’s granddaughter is actress Anuradha Patel, son-in-law was Deven Verma. So much talent in one family.
Thinking of the Ganguly brothers Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar .

Lyrics
arre barson beete
yoonhi ee jeete
huyi na poori mann ki ee ee aas
jaise jaise ghat’te gaye ae din
badhti gayi ee ee her pyaas
arre udte panchchi ee dekh ke
pyaasa mann lalchaaye
phanse pade hain jaal mein hum toh
saiyyaad khada aa aa muskaaye
kya kya armaan
dil mein thhe apne
dil mein thhe apne
kya kya aarmaan
dil mein thhe apne
kya kya dekhe thhe
jeee ke sapne
jeene ke sapne
arre sapne reh gaye
sapne yaaron dekho
dekho
aake kahaan hum phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
hum toh phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
oh badi buri tarah hum
phans gaye hain
hum to phans gaye hain
kabhi hum bhi aazaad
panchchi thhe yaaron
kabhi hum bhi aazaad
panchchi thhe yaaron
bahaaron mein apna bhi
thha aashiyaana
haan thha aashiyaana
magar waqt ne ek
din rang badla
wo par kat gaye
wo luta aashiyaana
luta aashiyaana
luta aashiyaana
wo kya thha zamaana
ye kya hai zamaana
wo kya thha zamaana
ye kya hai zamaana
are dil ki reh gayi
dil mein yaaron dekho
dekho
aake kahaan hum phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
yaaron fass gaye hain
oh badi buri tarah hum
phans gaye hain
yaaron fass gaye hain
o ho ho
ho ho ho o
yahaan zurm karne ko karte sabhi hain
yahan zurm karne ko karte sabhi hain
magar wo hain mujrim jo pakde gaye hain
jo pakde gaye hain
gunehgaar baaki toh aazaad hain sab
humi bediyo mein kyun jakde gaye hain
kyun jakde gaye hain
kyun jakde gaye hain
jo tum jakde gaye ho
haah
tumaari hi khata hai
haah
museebat jhelne mein
tumhe aata maza hai
tumhen aata maza hai
museebat jhelne mein
kise aata maza hai
magar majboor hain hum
nahin koi raasta hai
nahin koi raasta hai
hazaaron raaste hain
nahin tumko pata hai
usey milti hai manzil
jo manzil dhoondhta hai
jo manzil dhoondhta hai/font>
ada ye zindagi ki
humen bhi toh sikha do
andhere mein phanse hum
ujaala tum dikha do
ujaala tum dikha do
andhere ke panchchi
ujaale mein mud jaa
andhere ke panchchi
ujaale mein mud jaa
kabhi saath leke ye
pinjra bhi ud ja
kabhi saath leke ye
pinjra bhi ud ja
oh warna ye mat kehna
yaaron dekho
dekho
aake kahaan hum phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
oh badi buri tarah hum
phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
kya kya armaan
dil mein thhe apne
dil mein thhe apne
kya kya dekhe thhe
jeene ke sapne
jeene ke sapne
are sapne reh gaye
sapne yaaron dekho
dekho
hoy
aake kahaan hum phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
yaaron phans gaye hain
It has been quite a while since I last talked about my dogs. I have in fact so many things to talk about them that I do not know where to begin.
I had discussed it in the past that my dogs, especially Chhote, the younger one would run away from the home. Sometimes Bhhole, the senior of the two , would also run behind Chhote, mainly to accompany him.
