Blog Day: 4269 Post No.: 15496

“Black Shadow”(1961) was a stunt movie which was directed by Madan Mohan Mehra for Paul Productions, Bombay. This move had Nishi, Manhar Desai, Amrit Rana, Indira Bansal, Baburao, Sudha, Ramlal, Roshan, Menaka, Naseem, Narmada Shankar, BHaag Singh, Balraj Kapoor, Raju, Jaani Babu Qawwaal, Sheikh etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. One song from the movie has been covered in the past.

The songs of this movie are as obscure as the movie itself. Posting songs from missing movies of 1960s was a project which was originally the brainchild of our beloved Khyati Bhatt who prepared an excel sheet of missing movies of 1960s. Sudhir Jee took upon this project with right earnesh and posted elusive songs from many of these missing movies.

929 movies were released during 1960s (1961 to 1970). At present, 873 of these movies are represented in the blog.

During the early days of this project (which started in 2013), I also used to cover a few missing movies, before Sudhir Jee took over full responsibility of this project. During the earlier days of this project, I covered the first song from “Black Shadow”(1961) which was this song. It was the only song from this movie that I could locate at that time.

Now, nearly seven years later, when I searched for the songs of this movie, I was able to locate another song. And what a song it turns out to be. It is an all female duet sung by Shamshad Begam and Sudha Malhotra. Naqsh Llayalpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Harbans.

Going by the lyrics, I guess that it is a Punjabi style stage performance dance song where one female is dressed as a male and singing in Shamshad Begam’s voice whiile other female, playing a female sings in Sudha Malhotra’s voice.

Only the audio of this “expression of love” genre of song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

Song-Nazar hai kaanton se teekhi (Black Shadow)(1961) Singers-Shamshad Begam, Sudha Malhotra, Lyrics-Naqsh Llayalpuri, MD-Harbans

Lyrics

nazar hai kaanton se teekhi
badan hai phoolon se halka
nazar hai kaanton se teekhi
badan hai phoolon se halka
humaari jaan le lega
ishaara tere aanchal ka
ho dilbar jaaniya haaye
ho dilbar jaaniya
balle balle
ho dilbar jaaniya haaye
ho dilbar jaaniya

saja ke resham ka patka
ho mere dil ko de jhatka
hawa mein kyun ude zaalim
pahan ke joota makhmal ka
ho sun mere haaniya haaye
ho sun mere haaniya

balle baale
ho sun mere haaniya haaye
ho sun mere haaniya

ho o o
kashmiri sebo ki laali
chhalke tere gaalon se
saawan bhi sharmaaye tere
ghoonghar waale baalon se

dil ko le dooba hai
dora tere kaajal ka
nazar hai kanto se teekhi
ho tan hai phulo se halka
humaari jaan le lega
ishaara tere aanchal ka
ho dilbar jaaniya haaye
ho dilbar jaaniya
balle balle
ho dilbar jaaniya haaye
ho dilbar jaaniya

saja ke resham ka patka
ho mere dil ko de jhatka
hawa mein kyun ude zaalim
pahan ke joota makhmal ka
ho sun mere haaniya haaye
ho sun mere haaniya

ho balle balle
ho sun mere haaniya haaye
ho sun mere haaniya

o o o
rasmon ki zanjeer tod kar
aa gayi teri baahon mein

dekh goriye dol na jaana
pyaar ki lambi raahon mein
jeewan bhar ka saath hai apna
khel nahin pal ka

nazar hai kanto se teekhi
badan hai phoolon se halka
humaari jaan le lega
ishaara tere aanchal ka
ho dilbar jaaniya haaye
ho dilbar jaaniya
ho balle balle
ho dilbar jaaniya haaye
ho dilbar jaaniya

Blog Day : 3484 Post No. : 13995

Today (31 january 2018) is the last day of the first month on the year 2018. The new year began just 31 days ago. It already appears to most people that first january 2018 was long long ago. 🙂 Most people have already given up on their new year resolutions by now, assuming that they actually made such resolutions in the first place.

I am far more disciplined and determined as far as sticking to my resolutions are concerned. My two new year resolutions for the blog were –
(a) to post one “debutant”” movie song every day.
(b) to post one YIPPEE movie song every day.

We have so far managed to stick to our resolutions.

Our regulars have been a great help in the cause of introducing “debutant” movies to the blog as some of the articles contributed by them are the first song of movies. There are still a couple of thousand movies that are not yet covered in the blog so introducing “debutant” songs on a regular basis is a resolution that one can stick to without much problem.

The “YIPPEE” resolution is rather more challenging. It basically means covering ALL the songs of a movie. While it is possible to get a few songs for many movies, getting ALL the songs of a movie is a tough challenge. There may be some movies where all songs are easily available, but most movies turn out to be such where one or two songs are quite rare and are unavailable online. Locating these elusive songs becomes a challenge – and a time consuming challenge at that. The fact that we now a days post only about three or four songs a day, and not six or seven as was the case in the past, can be partially explained by the fact that we give considerable thought to YIPPIABLE movies these days, which was not the case in the past.

I have a list of movies that have just one or two songs left in them. So at any given day, I have several movies to pick from for YIPPYing. This choice sometimes comes to our rescue. For instance, it turns out that not one but two movies with suitable final song that we thought were YIPPiable on 26 January turned out to contain another song in them. Still, I was able to post another appropriate song from another movie that turned out to be the YIPPEE movie of that day. I in fact had one more movie as YIPPEE backup for republic day. 🙂

While posting YIPPEE movies daily, we cannot neglect those movies that have three or four songs left in them. We need to regularly cover these songs so that we have more number of movies with just one song left so that we can have a steady supply of YIPPiable movies.

The final song of some of these YIPPIable movies are so great that I am tempted to hold them back. The song under question is one such song. This song is from “Gauhar” (1953).

“Gauhar” (1953) was directed by F H Hasan for All Indian Pictures production, Bombay. The movie had Bina Rai, Rehman, Agha, Vijaylaxmi, Chaman Puri, Charlie, Cuckoo etc in it.

This movie had six songs in it. Five of these songs have been covered in the blog in the past. This sixth and final song is a rare song, and one that sounds like an archtypical puraani film ka song. I have liked this song so much that I toyed with the idea of this song being utilised as a century song, and even as a thousandth song for the blog. But finally I have decided that we cannot hold on to our YIPPIable songs just like that. Sooner or later we have to cover these songs.

So finally, I am letting go of this superb song from “Gauhar” (1953). This song is sung by Shamshad Begum and Sudha Malhotra. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.

Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

With this song,”Gauhar” (1953) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.
