“Do Premi”(1980) was directed by Raj Khosla for Shalini Films, Bombay. This “social” movie had Rishi Kapoor,Mausami Chatterji, Om Prakash, I S Johar, Deven Verma, Geeta Bahl, Roopesh Kumar, Aruna Irani, K N Singh, Trilok Kapoor, Gautam Sareen, Bhagwan, C S Dubey, Nawab, Raj Kishore, Kundan, Piloo Wadia, Pal Sharma, Manmauji, Dinu Harish, Mansaram, Noor Dewasi, R R Somaiyya, Uma Khosla, Anita Khosla, Reena Khosla, Raj Bharti (new discovery) etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it. One song from the movie has been covered in the past.

Here is the second song from “Do Premi”(1980) to ppear in the blog. This song is sung by Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar and chorus. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composition is by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

The usual far fetched over the top variety of song situation can be seen in the pictturisation. Rishi Kapoor and I S Johar barge into the premises of Om Prakash where he is marrying off his daughter (Mausami Chatterji) to Roopesh Kumar while Rishi Kapoor feels that he, being the hero, who had sung a duet with the lady in the past, should be the groom instead. So this song is a faux badhaai song where they pay underhand compliments to the “credentials” of the would be groom.

One can see many actors in the picturisation. Bhagwan, playing a watchman stands out among them.

This song is a quintessential “villain’s den” party song that we tended to have in Bollywood movies of 1970s. In most of these songs, the hero and heroine would enter villain’s high security party as the lead singers/dancers yet the villains would remain in the dark till the song is over.
