Dil beqaraar saa hai ham ko khumaar saa hai

Posted on: June 9, 2010

I have listened to this song in the past and liked it too, but all this while I was totally ignorant about the details of this song. The only thing I knew about this song is that the song is sung by Rafi.

I stumbled upon this song again yesterday, and this time I was able to get the details of this song. It is such a well known song, but few people may have heard about the movie this song is from. The movie is called “Isharaa”(1964). The movie had Joy Mukherji and Vyjyanti Mala in lead roles. I never knew that these two had acted together in a movie.

Watching this song is a pleasant surprise. This song is picturised on the location of TajmahalHumayun’s Tomb, Delhi, which predates Tajmahal. Taj mahal is a replica of Humayun’s tomb.

In addition, this song becomes a boat song towards the last stanza of the song.

The song itself is a wonderful song to listen to, and that is how most people have known this song. This song is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

I am certainly happy to be able to listen (and watch) this song. I am sure the readers of this blog too will enjoy this song.

PS-Later, I have come to know that this song has a Lata version too, and thus this song becomes a multiple version song as well. Now, lyrics of the Lata version, as well as translations of both versions have been provided, thanks to Sudhir jee.

hahahahaha
ho ho ho ho ho ho

dil beqaraar saa hai
ham ko khumaar saa hai
jab se tumhe dekhaa sanam
dil beqaraar saa hai
ham ko khumaar saa hai
jab se tumhe dekhaa sanam
dil beqaraar saa hai

mausam nashe mein choor hai
kuchh pi ke aayi hai ghataa
bas kuchh na poochho aaj kyaa
paighaam laayi hai ghataa
ab maine jaanaa pyaar kyaa hai
teri zulfon ki qasam
dil beqaraar saa hai
ham ko khumaar saa hai
jab se tumhe dekhaa sanam
haay
dil beqaraar saa hai

matlab to ab samjha hoon main
dhadkan bhari aawaaz kaa
ehsaan mere sar pe hai
teri nigaah e naaz ka haay
ab maine jaanaa
pyaar kyaa hai teri aankhon ki kasam
dil beqaraar saa hai
ham ko khumaar saa hai
jab se tumhe dekhaa sanam
dil beqaraar saa hai

haathon mein aanchal thaam ke
ye sar jhukaane ki adaa
deewaanaa kar degi mujhe
yoon muskuraane ki adaa
haay
ab maine jaanaa pyaar kyaa hai
tere honthon ki qasam
dil beqaraar saa hai
ham ko khumaar saa hai
jab se tumhe dekhaa sanam
dil beqaraar saa hai
hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
ho ho ho ho ho ha ha ha
hmm hmm hmm
ho ho ho ho ho
ha ha ha ha ha ha ho ho ho

dil beqaraar sa hai, hum ko khumaar sa hai
jab se tumhen dekha sanam

An eager yearning pervades my heart
I seem to be under a stupor
Since the time I laid my eyes on you

mausam nashe mein choor hai, kuchh pee ke aayi hai ghataa
bas kuchh na poochho aaj kyaa, paighaam laayi hai ghataa
ab maine jaanaa pyaar kyaa hai teri zulfon ki qasam

The surroundings are heady with love
The clouds and the air seem to have drunk (the wine of love)
The clouds carry a message today, they have carried never before
Now I know what love means, I swear upon your graceful tresses

matlab to ab samjha hoon main, dhadkan bhari aawaaz kaa
ehsaan mere sar pe hai, teri nigaah e naaz ka haay
ab maine jaanaa pyaar kyaa hai teri aankhon ki kasam

For the first time today, I understand the meaning of the sound of heartbeats
And I am forever indebted to the allurement of your glance
Now I know what love means, I swear upon your lovely eyes

haathon mein aanchal thaam ke, ye sar jhukaane ki adaa
deewaanaa kar degi mujhe, yoon muskuraane ki adaa
ab maine jaanaa pyaar kyaa hai, tere honthon ki qasam

The endearing manner of turning your face holding your scarf in your hand
The lovely smiles on your lips makes me lose control of my emotions
Now I know what love means, I swear upon your desirable lips

dil beqaraar sa hai
hum ko khumaar sa hai
jab se tumhen dekha sanam
dil beqaraar sa hai
hum ko khumaar sa hai
jab se tumhen dekha sanam
dil beqaraar sa hai

jab tak nigaahon se teri
dil ki mulaaqaaten na theen
jeene ko jeete thhey magar
ye rang ye baaten na theen
ab hum ne jaanaa baat kya hai
in nigaahon ki qasam
dil beqaraar sa hai
hum ko khumaar sa hai
jab se tumhen dekha sanam
dil beqaraar sa hai

jitney huye hum se khafaa
utney hi tum pyaare huye
hum to isi andaaz per
baithhe hain dil haare huye
ab hum ne jaanaa pyaar kya hai
in adaaon ki qasam
dil beqaraar sa hai
hum ko khumaar sa hai
jab se tumhen dekha sanam
dil beqaraar sa hai

Till the time my eyes had not met with your heart
I used to be alive, but life did not have these colors, these words
Now I know what these words (of love) mean, I swear by your eyes

jitney huye hum se khafaa, utney hi tum pyaare huye
hum to isi andaaz per, baitthe hain dil haare huye
ab hum ne jaanaa pyaar kya hai, in adaaon ki qasam

The more displeased you seemed to me, the deeper became your love in my heart
Just on this manner of yours, my heart is given over to you
Now I know what love means, I swear upon your graceful charms

Thanks for this beautiful song..I was admiring simplicity of actors those days and also location of shooting.
other girl in the boat looked like Waheeda..[???]

This (lovely + lively) song is hot at the Humayun’s Tomb at Delhi, not the Tajmahal as mentioned by you, Atul. And JFYI, the TAJMAHAL is a replica of Humayun’s Tomb (which is older), and not the other way round.

Thanks for this information. Now I need to change the “Taj Mahal” tag from this song.

Lovely song. Always liked it even before I saw the picturisation. When I saw it was Joy & Vyjanthimala and that too outdoors in Delhi, I liked it even more.

There is a Lata version of this song also. Quite nice too.

Prof. (Dr.) P. N. Oak. has all the proofs and the long history of the true story of Tajmahal.
Taj never was an Islamic mausoleum but an ancient Shiva Temple known as Tejo Mahalaya.
the sanskrit term TejoMahalay signifying a Shiva Temple.
Agreshwar Mahadev i.e., The Lord of Agra was consecrated in it.
Agra Fort was built by the Chauhan Rajput Kings.
Somehow the Moghuls and the English–both changed our civilization.
Taj Mahal was badly damaged and fallen into disrepair and entire area was covered with vegetation till late 19th century.
It was restored to it’s old glory only after Viceroy Lord Curzon took interest in restoring ancient monuments in India.
