Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Suniye zara dekhiye na

Posted on: August 16, 2012

This article is written by Pamir Harvey, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a new contributor to this blog.

As is the case with many songs, I grew up listening to this song on radio, but had no idea from which film this is till I discovered this few months back on youtube.

“Geeta Mera Naam” (1974) is produced by R. K. Nayyar, actress Sadhana’s husband. Sadhana’s career was coming to an end at this phase of her career. To establish herself again in the Hindi film world after the debacle of “Ishq Par Zor Nahin” (1970), “Aap Aye Bahar Aayee” (1971) and “Dil Daulat Duniya” (1972) and also to present her acting skills in diametrically opposite roles, this film was probably conceived. It might also have been adapted to cash on the success of Seeta Aur Geeta [1972] and let her arrive in the zany decade of the 70s. What’s more she even got to direct the film!

Nonetheless this was to be her last film. Of course there were films, which got released later, but they were all delayed films like Amanat (1975) and Vandana (1975). Her last film Ulfat ki Nayi Manzilein, whose music was released in 1968, got released in 1994. The film must have been completed with doubles in long shots, as can be seen in the picturisation of this song where we see only the back of the character played by her.

I haven’t seen Geeta Mera Naam, that is why I can’t say much about the situation in which the song plays. What is quite evident is that this is a seduction song.

Song-Suniye zara dekhiye na (Geeta Mera Naam)(1974) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

suniye
zara dekhiye naa
hum aapki deewar ke
saaye mein baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain
suniye
zara dekhiye naa
hum aapki deewar ke
saaye me baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain
ji rukiye
zara poochiye naa
hum kaun hai kyun pyar ke
saaye me baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain

kehne ki nahin baat
magar kehna hai
kehne ki nahin baat
magar kehna hai
door aapse ab to
nahin rehna hai
ghar chhoda hai
ae ae
ghar chhoda hai
yaar ke
saaye mein baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain
suniye
zara dekhiye naa
hum aapki deewar ke
saaye me baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain

dil kar baitha pyaar
ajab mushkil hai
dil kar baitha pyaar
ajab mushkil hai
hai dard mohabbat ka
bada kaatil hai
majboor hai
ae
majboor hai
talwaar ke
saaye mein baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain
suniye
zara dekhiye naa
hum aapki deewar ke
saaye mein baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain
ji rukiye
zara poochiye naa
hum kaun hain kyun pyar ke
saaye mein baithe hain
ain ain ain
ain ain
suniye!

Hey Harvey, welcome to the club!!! 🙂
And what a debut song! This was going to be my next Friday song. 🙂

I like this song a lot – catchy as it is. And I do like Sadhana a lot.

I think this movie was a pretty big hit – and I may have seen it around the time of its release. It does sound familiar. Or maybe I am confusing it with Rani Mera Naam, also from the 70s. Looks like Johny Mera Naam spawned a lot of “… Mera Naam” wannabes. 🙂 though there was one which went a step beyond the introduction and spoke of the profession (Chori Mera Kaam). 😉 And one even admitted to the hero’s role in his relationship (Joroo Ka Ghulam). 🙂

Ok, enough of this PKK-giri :-), thanks for writing this up. Hope to see more from you here.

Thanks for the hearty welcome, Raja!

You are funny, Raja!
Geeta Mera Naam was a hit according to the sources in Internet. I also remember reading a review of the film, but as usual I have forgotten it. It has something to do with a ‘good’ and street-smart sister. The good one gets Sunil Dutt and the other Feroz. And this being the 70s they are surely hell-bent on taking revenge of some kind.

Oh, so you are Harvey Pam blog`s Harvey ji,
While reading lyrics of “Ikraar-Lata-Bappi Lahiri “, It didn`t occured to me that Pamir Harvey is the same person. I thougt Pamir Harvey is a different person.

Sorry, for wishing you lately.
Welcome Harvey ji

Thanks for the lyrics of both Lata solo songs. Both the songs are my all time Lata favourites.

In fact I had sent the lyrics of “Ikraar” song 9 or 11 months ago to Atulji. And planning to send the lyrics of Geeta mera naam song next week(The lyrics of which I have already written and thought that song is relatively new by the standards of the blog).

Ek kaam bach gayaa ;(

Anyways,
Thank you again for the lyrics and enjoyed reading your article. Hoping more and more posts and lyrics of “my favorite songs” from you.
