Regulars on the blog are aware that we are looking back at the missing movies released fifty years ago right from the beginning of this decade of ‘2021-2030’. In other words we are looking back at the decade of 1971-1980 from the beginning of this decade. It means we looked back at the missing movies of 1971 during 2021, missing movies of 1972 during the years 2022 and the missing movies of 1973 during the year 2023. Now we are into the year 2024 and so we are looking at the missing movies of 1974.
Normally I start this activity in the beginning of the initial months of the ‘new year’. However, this year we start it from today viz from 27th June’2024. This day is a special day for all music lovers as it is the ‘eighty-fifth birth anniversary’ of one of India’s ‘genius’ music composer Rahul Dev Burman fondly known as ‘Pancham’.
For today’s occasion we do have a movie from the year ‘1974’ where music was composed by R.D. Burman. This movie is yet to be introduced on the blog. Sometimes I am surprised to note that we still have movies with R D Burman music that are yet to be introduced on the blog. But that is how it is. We still have miles to go before we bring bring all available HFM music here on the blog.
Let us have a look on the movies that were released in 1974 where R.D. Burman was the music director. The number of the songs these movies have and their status on the blog is also mentioned in the following table.

Today we introduce the movie “Ujaalaa Hi Ujaalaa-1974” on this blog. Music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman.
“Ujaalaa Hi Ujaalaa-1974” was directed by S.M. Sagar for ‘Adhikar International, Bombay’. It had Ashok Kumar, Vinod Mehra, Yogeeta Bali, Rakesh Pande, Mehmood, Iftekhar, Anoop Kumar, Shivraj, Sayeed-Ul-Hasan, Brahmachari, Lalita Kumar, Shefali Chaudhary, Baby Kalpana, Manorama Desai, Sudama T., Kumud Tripathi, Ameer Ali and others. Nazeema, Helen, Lily Chakravarti, Chand Usmani and Junior Mehmood had a special appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 14.08.1974.
“Ujaalaa Hi Ujaalaa-1974” has five songs in it which are all penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Here is the list of songs in this movie:-

The song under discussion is sung by Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. It is lip-synced on screen by Mehmood and Helen respectively.We can see Mehmood, Helen, Brahmachari, Vinod Mehra,( in ‘disguise’ who seems to be on a ‘secret mission’ looking for a ‘key’ of something, which they finally get). Also seen in the picturisation of this song is Rakesh Pande and many others. This song is a nice hummable song. It grows upon us if we listen to it a few times. I do not remember to have listened to this song in the past.
We are treated to the unique jigs of Mehmood in the picturisation. I have not yet watched this movie. This movie is now available on the online platform, and maybe I would watch it soon :). Meanwhile I would request knowledgeable readers who have watched this movie to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
