Genius of Jaidev – 22
—————————–

Normally, a music director superbly composing smooth, not noisy, but melodious tunes with Indian classical music base, Jaidev has composed a western music based foot tapping song as well. May be it was the demand of the film scenario!! And who is among the more adept artists to sing such songs? Asha, of course. So here it is a song from Jaidev in the voice of Asha but in an entirely different style. Just compare this to the previous posted song of Asha from the same film, same lyricist and by the same music director.

Sadanand Kamathji described Jaidev’s Music and his philosophy in these words:

“Coming back on Jaidev, I always felt that music for him was more a passion than a commercial venture. He remained bachelor but was wedded to music until his death. In later years, he was mostly associated with providing music to art films (as against mainstream films) and composing music for non-filmy albums of ghazals and devotional songs. He also composed music for Harivash Rai Bachchan’s magnum opus ‘Madhushala’. I feel, in his musical works, he must have followed Bhagwat Geeta philosophy – ‘Karmaneye wadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana’ , roughly meaning ‘keep on performing your duties without expectations or rewards’. I read somewhere that he did not own a house in Mumbai and stayed as a paying guest until his death.”

I wish I can write like that!!….. but let’s listen to this song. I have not seen the film and I do not know for whom Asha has lent her voice, but she pronounces her words in some different growl to match the actress’s style. May be….

Is somebody now likely to shout ‘Yipeeee? With this song ‘even I’ have put this film ‘Samundari Daku’ in the listing of ‘all songs covered’.

Song-Ho Jaata Hai Pyaar suno ji nazron ke takraane se(Samundari Daaku)(1956) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Vishwamitra Adil, MD-Jaidev

Lyrics

hee hee
ho jaata hai pyaar suno ji eee
ho jaata hai pyaar suno ji
nazron ke takaraane se
ho jaata hai pyaar suno ji
nazron ke takaraane se
soch samajh le ae
hey soch samajh le nadaan
phir kuchh hoga na pachhtaane se
ho jaata hai pyaar pyaar
nazron ke takaraane se
ho jaata hai pyaar suno ji
nazron ke takaraane se

mehfil bhi hai behki behki
saaqi bhi dilwaalaa
sab ki aankhen chhalki chhalki
bhar le tu bhi pyaala
mehfil bhi hai behki behki
saaqi bhi dilwaalaa
sab ki aankhen chhalki chhalki
bhar le tu bhi pyaala
bharnewaale ae
bhar lete hain …
bharnewaale bhar lete hain
paimaana paimaane se ae
ho jaata hai pyaar pyaar
nazron ke takraane se
ho jaata hai pyaar suno ji
nazron ke takraane se

haan aan aan aan aa aa aa
haa haa haa aa aa aa
phail rahe hain zulfen ban kar dhhalti raat ke saaye
dil de kar dildaar milega
kyun itna ghabraaye
phail rahe hain zulfen ban kar dhhalti raat ke saaye
dil de kar dildaar milega
kyun itna ghabaaye
raat hai baaqi… raat hai baaqi
raat hai baaqi baat hai baaqi
aa jaa kisi bahaane se
ho jaata hai pyar pyaar
nazron ke takaraane se
ho jaata hai pyar suno ji
nazron ke takaraane se
soch samajh le ae
hey soch samajh le nadaan
phir kuchh hoga na pachhtaane se
ho jaata hai pyaar suno ji
nazron ke takraane se
ho jaata hai pyaar suno ji
nazron ke takraane se

He was staying at Lily Court, near Churchgate where I had gone to read my poems to him. Unlike Rajindra Krishan he did not give me any song situation to write.
