Kisi nazar ko tera intezaar aaj bhi hai

Posted on: August 8, 2008

Bappi Lahiri is widely held responsible for the deterioration in the quality of Bollywood music in 1980s. But that is not now how he started his career. He had begun with some nice music in Zakhmee and Chalte Chalte. He was getting nowhere with good music, but when he gave chaalu music, he was instantly successful, and that made him cynical enough to decide that he needed to put crass comercialisation above classy music to forge ahead in his career.

But Bappi Lahiri was capable of giving good music and he would often surprise fans by coming up with great music in the midst of shrill and plagiarised disco songs.

This particular movie “Aitbaar” was one such movie, where he came up with such nice music that many people , including me, mistakenly thought for a long time that the music director of “Aitbaar ” was R D Burman. But no, it was actually Bappi Lahiri who came up with this musical masterpiece. If only he had decided to come up with such music more often.

It is a very nice song. For once, lyrics has been given its due and the lyricist Hasan Qamal shows that he could come up with the kind of lyrics that we had come to expect from past greats in 1960s and 70s.

A very pleasant surprise this song turns out to be.

Song-Kisi nazar ko tera intezaar aaj bhi hai (Aitbaar) (1985) Singers-Bhupinder Singh, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Hasan Kamaal, MD-Bappi Lahiri

Lyrics

kisi nazar ko tera, intezaar aaj bhi hai
kisi nazar ko tera, intezaar aaj bhi hai
kahaan ho tum ke ye dil bekraar aaj bhi hain
O kisi nazar ko tera, intezaar aaj bhi hai

wo waadiyaan, wo fizaayen ke hum mile the jahaan
wo waadiyaan, wo fizaayen ke hum mile the jahaan

ke mere dil pe unhen ikhtiyaar aaj bhi hai
O kisi nazar ko tera, intezaar aaj bhi hai

wo pyaar jis ke liye humne chhod dee duniyaa
wo pyaar jis ke liye humne chhod dee duniyaa
wafaa ki raah mein ghaayal wo pyaar aaj bhi hain
O wo pyaar jis ke liye humne chhod dee duniyaa

yakeen naheen hai magar aaj bhi ye lagtaa hain
yakeen naheen hai magar aaj bhi ye lagtaa hain
meri talaash mein shaayad bahaar aaj bhi hain
O kisi nazar ko tera, intezaar aaj bhi hai

na poochh kitne mohabbat ke zakhm khaaye hain
na poochh kitne mohabbat ke zakhm khaaye hain
ke jin ko soch ke dil sogvaar aaj bhi hai
O wo pyaar jis ke liye humne chhod dee duniyaa
wafaa ki raah mein ghaayal wo pyaar aaj bhi hain

kisi nazar ko tera, intezaar aaj bhi hai
kahaan ho tum ke ye dil bekraar aaj bhi hain
O kisi nazar ko tera

Translation

There is someone who is waiting for you even today
Where are you, this heart is restless for you even today

We had met in those places and those environments
Memorial of that still exists somewhere in those places

I have no idea why I felt after watching that person
that my heart still belongs to that person

That love for which I abandoned everything
still survives,lying injured somewhere

It is difficult to believe, but it still seems as if
happiness is still waiting to come back to my life

Do not ask how many wounds one has received in love
Thinking about that person fills the heart with pain even now

Fantastic.
The real pity is that Bhappi Lahiri did not compose more such songs.
It is not for want of ability, for sure.

Bappi Lahiri chose instant gratification over long lasting fame. It was his choice and we cannot comment about that. But songs like this makes us think of what could have been.

Beautiful song. Bappi Lahiri definitely has the talent to compose good music, instead he used his commercial nous and spent his time composing songs (or noise as my mother calls it) to inspire a whole generation of Disco Dancers.

Like

Indeed. This song is a shining example of what he was capable of.

Wow – Bhupen Hazarika? Way back then? I always thought this song was Bhupinder? Was I wrong??

Lovely song and wholly agree that a song like this one makes you wonder why Bappi Lahiri didn’t set such high standards for himself every time.
Shouldn’t the male singer’s name read Bhupinder Singh?

Yes, it is Bhupinder Singh. For quite some time I thought that all these songs were sung by Bhupen Hazarika.

Fully agreed with you. I remember that during my childhood on a Radio interview somewhere O. P. Nayyar accepted the truth that the half (50%) of the credit of a successful song goes to the lyricist if the words are catchy further half of the remaining half (i.e. 25%) goes to the singer if he/she is skilled and the rest one-fourth only goes to the musicians.
