Another Lata gem from 1960s. This song from Anupama (1966) was picturised on Surekha ( I thank Raja for this information). The Bollywood actresses those days tended to look like Vyjyantimala, Meena Kumari or Asha Parekh. Surekha looks so much like Asha Parekh in this song. May be that is because of similar appearance, hair style etc.
Surekha sings this song on a piano wating for her beau Tarun Bose. Tarun Bose, ever so impeccably dressed in suit/ boot/ tie arrives unannounced and enjoys the singing for a minute and a half before revealing himself to her.
Surekha then notices him but continues to sing, but now rest of the song is sung by looking towards Mr Bose.
The line
“roothke pahle jee bhar sataauungi main
jab manaaenge wo, maan jaauungi main”,
sung with a naughty smile, which brings a hint on a smile on the lips of Tarun Bose too, is the highlight of this song for me.
It is quite a heart warming song, that one can listen to many a times. The public in 1967 also thought so, and this song finished as high as number 5 in the Binaca geetmala final of 1967.

A beautiful song.
This is one of the first movies I remember seeing as a kid.
Btw, I saw this movie recently. The song is not picturised on Durga Khote. It is an actress called Surekha. Durga Khote is indeed in the movie – she plays Dharmenda’s mother’s role.

This song, besides being very, very popular in 1966-67, is really a MASTERPIECE. Look at the way it’s picturised – great !

I am really fascinated by the Surekha’s performance in picturising this song. I want to know if she is alive or passed away. If somebody gives me this info, I’ll be grateful.

Same sentiments here too. Surekha Pandit is a very good actress.But she did not get the chance to become a heroine actress position.She got chances only as a supporting actress. I wanted to know as to how long she was in the movie business and if and when she retired, whether she got married and if she is still alive. if you have any info. please reply to my email bombaywallah6@hotmail.com

An all time great song. The lyrics, music (piano) and Lataji .. an immortal creation. I cam to know about the actress Surekha from you only. In my favorite list of Lataji it is among top five.

Nice Song.
I have listened to this song endless times. Not so much for this song but because it was on the same side as “Ya Dil Ki Suno” on the record. That song is in my top 10 list and Dheere Dheere Machal always got played when I listened to that particular record so I have a special liking for it as well 🙂
