Ghulabi aankhen jo teri dekhin

Watching the picturisation of this song, I cannot help feeling that the maker of this movie must have had Shammi Kapoor in mind while picturising this song. And indeed, when one listens to this song, one gets the feeling that one is listening to one of the Rafi songs sung for Shammi Kapoor.
But it was not Shammi Kapoor, but Rajesh Khanna on whom this song is picturised. Though Rajesh Khanna does a lot of jumping around trees etc Shammi Kapoor style, somehow he is not able to create the same magical effect of Shammi Kapoor. And the actress Nanda too appears to be just going through her motions.
The song itself is quite a racy song, sung with gutso by Rafi. The music is typically R D Burman music, lovely to listen to. And as discussed above, Rajesh Khanna gets more workout in this song than he is normally used to. 😉

More than Shammi Kapoor, this is like Rajesh doing a Jumpin’ Jack imitation of Jeetu.
Very uncharacteristic of Rajesh – those were still early years for him. I doubt if he repeated this ever again. 🙂
This song was pretty popular in its time. Atul has absolutely the right word for it. “Racy”.

Ha, ha poor Kaka! What a great song though. There was a very annoyed comment on youtube which noted that the choreographer should be shot 🙂 There’s another number in this film which is similarly frenetic–“Chhor bedardi aanchal mera..”
One RD’s great soundtracks imo.

It was one of the super hit movie during 1970 of Super Star Rajesh Khanna. R D Burman added to the music with his background score and gave a western feel to the movie with his voice.

Poor Rajesh Khanna! One can tell that he is not used to this kind of movement, and it is nothing but a punishment for him! I don’t even remember hearing the name of this movie. Anyway, the song itself is pretty good. Thanks for the song, Atul.
