7633 Phoolon ke dere hain saaye ghanere hain Zameer (1975) Movie YIPPEED by now

We can observe that five movies (out of nine) whose songs were covered on this date ten years ago (8 march 2013) have since been YIPPEED. That leaves us with four movies that are unYIPPEED from that date and therefore they are eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (8 March 2023).

“Laxmi”(1957) is one BTYC eligible movie today (8 March 2023). This movie was produced by A Chiman Trivedi and directed by G P Pawar for Chitra Bharati, Bombay. This movie had Nanda, Chandrashekhar, Tiwari ,Maruti, Roopmala, Kamal Kapoor, Moni Chatterji, Satyanarain, Parshuram, Indira, S.Azim, Natial etc in it. The movie also had Mahipal, Ramavtar and Ratnamala in guest appearances.

“Laxmi”(1957) had eight songs in it. Three songs have been covered in the past.

Here is the fourth song from the movie. It is sung by Manna Dey. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Avinash Vyas.

The song is picturised as a typical mendicant song picturised on a beggar whose song express the feelings of the lead actors who are nearby and they are able to listen to the song loud and clear. The message contained in the song tells the lead actors what they were doing wrong leading to the sad long faces they were sporting. They had built up tall buildings of hope on very weak foundations , they have tried to burn a diya in the midst of a cyclone. Such tilting at the winsdmills was an exercise in futility and was bound to lead to disappointments. Very good and sound advise. I wonder if the laed actors Nanda and Chandrashekhar pay heed to the lesson contained in the song and reform themselves. I am not sure who the actor is who lip syncs this song with a message. He could be Parshuram. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify him.

“Samundar”(1957) has been YIPPEED by now. That leaves “Qaidi No 911″(1959) as the only candidate for Blog Ten Year challenge today.

“Qaidi No 911″(1959) had six songs in it. Four songs (including a multiple version song) have been covered in the blog.

Here are the details of the songs from this movie that have been covered so far:-

Meethi meethi baaton se bachna zaraa Multiple version song 29-Sep-2009
Pyaar bhari ye ghataayen 9-May-2010
Tere teer ko hamne pyaar se dil mein rakh liyaa 2-Jan-2012

Latching on to this Blog Ten year Challenge opportunity, Prakashchandra has sent me the lyrics of a song from “Qaidi No 911″(1959). this song is sung by Lata. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Dattaram.

The song is picturised as a roadside tamasha dance song on the beach of Chaupati I guess. Mukri is trying to attract customers for his bioscope, but the potential customers get diverted to watch the dance performance of Nanda. 🙂

The picturistion is somewhat reminiscent of “Don”(198) song,“Ee hai Bambai nagariya tu dekh babua”.

Hello Atuldom

She was a child star to start with, facing the camera for the first time, probably at the age of 8 or 9 in 1948. Her father was a successful actor-producer-director of his time, but his death at a young age had this Baby becoming a child actress so that she could support her family. I am referring to Master Vinayak Damodar Karnataki’s daughter Nanda Karnataki a.k.a Nanda.

She debuted as Baby Nanda in the 1948 release “Mandir”. Her first adult role was in “Toofan Aur Diya” in 1956 at the age of maybe 17. She had a long career where she acted with as a supporting roles of kid sister, second heroine etc before graduating to heroine roles in the 60s. She paired with Shashi Kapoor in 8 films when he was not yet a successful star. “Jab Jab Phool Khile” helped her have a image change and this was seen in later movies like “Joru Ka Ghulam” and “The Train” (both with Rajesh Khanna), “Abhilasha”, “Beti” opposite Sanjay Khan. She had a successful pairing with Jeetendra too in movies like “Dharti kahe pukaar ke”

This Video that I saw sometime ago on youtube has Tabassum, with whom Nanda had near parallel career and was friends till she passed away in 2014, giving us some insight into Nanda’s life.

I spent some time trying to get the right song to remember this beautiful leading lady of the 60s and 70s. And here is a song from a movie that released in 1973, one of her last as a leading lady, where she is opposite the Bengali actor Ranjit Mallick. One song from this movie has been posted on the blog in 2012.

“Naya Nasha” directed by Hari Dutt and produced by C.V.K. Shastry had Nanda, Ranjit Mallick, Madan Puri, etc. etc in its cast. Our personal encyclopedia has given us an idea of what the movie was about in the comments of the only song from this movie to have appeared on the blog. the movie had four songs here is the second on the sixth anniversary of Baby Nanda i.e. Nanda.

When one talks of star pairings during the golden era of Hindi movies, one thinks of “A grade” star pairings like Raj Kapoor-Nargis, Dilip Kumar- Madhubala, Dilip Kumar-Meena Kumari, Dev Anand- Waheeda Rehman etc. But there were other pairs too, that would be signed up by smaller budget movie makers, like for instance, Ashok Kumar- Nirupa Roy, Kishore Kumar-Vyjyanti Mala etc.

Movie makers with even smaller budgets would sign up up and coming pairs, who may have started off as child artists. One such pair was Shashi Kapoor and Nanda. Unlike some other pairs, this pair delivered quite a few hits and became a dependable pair.

Names of movies such as Chaar Deewaari (1961), Mohabbat Isko Kehte Hain (1965), Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965), Neend Hamari Khwaab Tumhaare (1966), Juaari (1968), Raja Sahab (1969) and Roothha Na Karo (1970) comes to mind when one thinks of Shashi Kapoor-Nanda pair.

Here is a song picturised on this pair. This playful and cheerful romantic song is from “Mehndi Lagi Mere Haath”(1962). This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Usha Mangeshkar. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

The song shows playful looking Shashi Kapoor and Nanda teasing each other. The best teasing is reserved in the last stanza of the song where Shashi Kapoor teases the lady -“you show arrogance as if you are baby Nanda.”
Pat comes the retort- “you behave as if you are the kid brother of Raj Kapoor”. 🙂

Great fun lyrics by Anand Bakshi during his early days in Hindi movies.

This song was the sixth song, out of six that this movie had. The earlier five songs, including one multiple version song, have been covered in the blog in the past in 2010 (two songs), 2015 (one multiple version song) and 2017 (one song). Following are the details of the earlier songs from this movie :

Just five days ago, I’d written a post here paying tribute to one of the most loved legends of the Hindi film industry, Mohammad Rafi, on his birth anniversary. Referred to by many (including me) as Rafisaab, he was a giant in his field. Yet  he remained humble to his last day, never letting success get to his head. He treated everyone with great respect and, in turn, earned the respect of everyone he interacted with.
