Yaad karoon tori batiyaan

If one listens to female songs composed by O P Nayyar, they are mostly sung by Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhonsle, with some songs sung by Shamshad Begam too.
All leading ladies in O P Nayyar movies would lip sync in Geeta Dutt or Asha Bhonsle’s voice.
To the best of my knowledge, there is just one exception where a leading lady did not lip sync in the voices of Geeta Dutt/ Asha Bhonsle in movies with O P Nayyar’s music.
“Mr Lambu” (1955) is one movie where O P Nayyar was the music director and Suraiyya was the lead actress.
O P Nayyar could afford to use other singer’s voice for Kishore Kumar (who despite his tantrums was not a big enough star) but Suraiyya was indeed a big star and she got her way in matters of singing her songs. And in any case she had such a delightful voice that music directors would love to use her voice.
So, I guess that Suraiyya is the only lead actress in an O P Nayyar movie who did not lip sync in Geeta Dutt or Asha Bhonsle’s voices. 😀

After listening to this song, I am indeed on the look out for other songs sung by Suraiyya for O P Nayyar. 😀

Wonderful lilt in her singing. Enchanting. I am a relatively new fan of Suraiyya’s; just did not get early opportunity to listen to them.
