Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Hazaar haath waale

Posted on: June 26, 2012

“Maha Pooja” (1954), as the name suggests, was a low budget religious mythological movie, the kind which was partonised in rural and semi rural areas rather than in big cities. It was an Amar Jyoti Films production. It was directed by Shanti Kumar. The credit for this movie shows names like Amirbai Karnataki, Shashi Kapoor, Anant Marathe, Naina, Prem Adib, Ratnamala etc in it. I am certain that the Shashi Kapoor of this movie is different from the brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor.

Here is a song from “Maha Pooja”(1954). This song is a remonstrating with the almighty sense in which the devotees complain that the God is discriminating with human beings. They complain that HE is favouring frauds and ignoring genuine devotees. The song is reminiscent of the “Nastik” (1954) song Dekh tere sansaar ki haalat.. Kitna badal gaya insaan which was a contemporary of this song.

This duet song is sung by Talat Mehmood and Geeta Dutt. Ramesh Gupta is the lyricist. Music is composed by Avinash Vyas.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to guess how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

waah re waah bhagwaan,
banaayaa kyaa toone insaan,
is fareb ke putle se to,

hazaar haathwaale, mandir ke dwaar khule
aur tere munh pe taale
hazaar haathwaale
mandir ke dwaar khule
aur tere muh pe taale
hazaar haathwaale

kisi ke ghar tu rim jhim barse,
koi boond paani ko tarse
kisi ke ghar tu rim jhim barse,
koi boond paani ko tarse
kahin bhare bhandaar ?? ke
kahin roti ke naale

bol o mohan muraliyaa waale
tere muh pe taale
hazaar haathwaale
hazaar haathwaale
mandir ke dwaar khule
aur tere munh pe taale

saadhu, sanyaasi, sansaari
aaj bane lobhi vyabhichaari
dayaa dharam bhoole nar naari aaj pujaari bane juwaari
o o
teri murti ke sanmukh hi
hote karm kaale
tere munh pe taale,
hazaar haathwaale
hazaar haathwaale,
mandir ke dwaar khule
aur tere munh pe taale
hazaar haathwaale

thhag pandit ban karen aarti
bhagat maren tere bhookhe
thhag pandit ban karen aarti
bhagat maren tere bhookhe
daitya neeti per chalne waale
paayen na tukde sookhe
daitya neeti per chalne waale
paayen na tukde sookhe
h o o o
?? ko di poonji toone
daani ko ??
tere munh pe taale,
hazaar haathwaale
hazaar haathwaale,
mandir ke dwaar khule
aur tere munh pe taale
hazaar haathwaale

paise se teri pooja hove
mandir baahar bikey parshad
paise se teri pooja hove
mandir baahar bikey parshad
bina shok koi iss duniya mein
kare na tujhko yaad
oo
sachha saadhu paai na paaye
dhongi ko dushhale
tere munh pe taale,
hazaar haathwaale
hazaar haathwaale,
mandir ke dwaar khule
aur tere munh pe taale

naam hai tera deen dayaalu
dukh harta sukh daata
naam hai tera deen dayaalu
dukh harta sukh daata
kintu aajkal tu bhi
sreemanton ke bhog lagaata
kintu aajkal tu bhi
sreemanton ke bhog lagaata
o o

geeta bananewale
tere munh pe taale,
hazaar haathwaale

hazaar haathwaale,
mandir ke dwaar khule aur tere muh pe taale
hazaar haathwaale
hazaar haathwaale

Atul ji,
The actor SHASHI KAPOOR who is in the cast of this film is NOT the Shashi Kapoor-brother of Raj Kapoor and a popular Hero in 60s and 70s.
This is another Shashi Kapoor(senior),about whom not much info is available, except that he acted in 16 or so films during the period 1944 to 1954.
Wikipedia and some other sites erroneously state that Shashi Kapoor(Raj brother)began acting in many mythological films from childhood. It was SK(Sr.) and not him who acted in those films.
Shashi Kapoor(Raj Bro) acted as a child only in 2 films-Aag-1948 and Aawara-1951.In both these films his name in the credits is SHASHI RAJ (and Master Shashi Kapoor).
The other SHASHI KAPOOR(Sr.) had acted in Meena,Bachpan,Tadbir,Bhakta Dhruv,Bh.Bilwamangal,Bh.Gopalbhaiyya,Renuka,Shaheed-48,Ram Darshan,Samadhi, veer babruwahan, murliwala,Mordhwaj,Sanskar,Danapani and Mahapooja-his last film.
This info is given so that readers should not mistake one for the other.

Reading the writeup of Shri Sadanand Kamathji which I just read, I was transported to my post SSC days when I was an aspiring lyricist. During the 2 months holidays I wrote about 10 filmi songs. I went to Rajendra Krishanji at Shri Sound Studio, Dadar. (In the background Om Prakash was being given a massage by his servant) He was kind and patient enough to hear my songs. He would recite/repeat every 2 lines perfectly. I requested him to employ at least few of them. He expressed his inability to do so saying that ‘We write as per the situation’ I requested him to give me any situation. He gave me one: Hero and heroine are very much in love resulting in heroine becoming pregnant. The hero panics and leaves her. She sings in grief. I had to make the lyrics as per this situation. I said confidently (false bravado)’Give me 2 days I will be back with the song’. It was something new for me and situation also had no precedent to fall back upon. After 2 days I went to him with the following song:

kisi ka yu arman kuchalna munasib nahi hai yeh meri kamnasibi hai mera nasib nahi hai
tune mere kokh ki ruswai karke mitaya hai suhag
abb to buzaye nahi buzti mere dil ki aag har modh pe sukoon diya hamne raahe e zindagi me aaj maalum huwa kitni hai zafa aadmi me pehale mile thhe ham mai chur thhi teri yaad me abb wahi dukhiya abhagan chur hai naashaad me tunne saath rehane ka mujhse kiya thha vaada abb na jaane kaise badal gaya tera irada

I recited the song. He was impressed and asked who was my guru; I said I am my own guru. Now you must accept the song and use it in your picture. He said to go to MD Ravi. I said give me a note/letter. He said just give my name. I knew he was giving a ‘taang’. Still I met Ravi at his Santacruz bungalow. As I was knowing he expressed his inability to accept anybody’s song except Sahir, Shakeel, Prem Dhawan and Rajindra Krishnan. I made the decision that this line was not for me. Then started concentrating on studies

Hahaha. That is a good account of your experience as a budding lyricist. Perhaps you should write an article or two on your experiences with film personalities.

Dekho Nitinbhai, agar aap bhi film line mein chale jaate to SHAYAD itne achhe na rahe paate. I am not trying to be -ve here, but that’s the fact and reality. Name, fame and wealth achhe se achhe AADMI ko ………..bana deta hai. Aap samajh gaye hoge ki main kya kahena chahti hoon. Aur doosri baat ye bhi hai ki humko ek achha contributor bhi na milta. Jo hota hai achhe ke liye hota hai. Like Atulji has said, you can share your experiences with us. Atulji won’t ask you to right the post depending on the situation like in film industry. Instead he gives everybody all freedom to share their experiences. And that’s what I like about him.

I am trying to separate the lines; hope it remains so

kisi ka yu arman kuchalna munasib nahi hai

yeh meri kamnasibi hai mera nasib nahi hai

tunne mere kokh ki ruswai karke mitaya hai suhag

abb to buzaye nahi buzti mere dil ki aag

har modh pe sukoon diya hamne raahe e zindagi me

aaj maalum huwa kitni hai zafa aadmi me

pehale mile thhe ham mai chur thhi teri yaad me

abb wahi dukhiya abhagan chur hai naashaad me

tunne saath rehane ka mujhse kiya thha vaada

abb na jaane kaise badal gaya tera irada
