Main chali main chali dekho pyar ki gali

on:The movie “Padosan” was a laugh riot. The movie was a musical blockbuster too. Apart from the by now legendary ” mere saamne waali khidki mein” “ek chatur naar”,this movie had other hummable songs as well and these songs have their fan following too.
For instance there are people who like this song ” main chali main chali”. This is one of the few songs in which one can listen to the voice of Lata and Asha both. Lata sings for Saira Bano, but Asha’s voice has been picturised on different bit actresses in different paras of the song.
Watching the picturisation makes me realise that life India of those days was so simple and laidback as compared to now. I yearn to have a time machine so that I may go to that era and experience it again.

lalala lalala lalala
main chali main chali, dekho pyaar ki gali
mujhe roke na koyi, main chali main chali
main chali main chali, dekho pyaar ki gali
mujhe roke na koyi, main chali main chali
na na na meri jaan, dekho jaanaa na wahaan
koi pyaar kaa luteraa, loote na meri jaan
na na na meri jaan, dekho jaanaa na wahaan
koyi pyaar kaa luteraa, loote na meri jaan
re pa pa lalala
ye fizaa ye hawaa, ye nazaare ye samaa
ab pyaar na huaa to phir kab hogaa
koyi khel to nahin, ye hai pyaar meri jaan
tujhe pataa bhi na chalegaa ye jab hogaa
main chali main chali, dekho pyaar ki gali
mujhe roke na koyi, main chali main chali
re papa lalala
lalala lalala lalala lalala lalala
re papa lalala
hai deewani ye jaawani koyi samjhaye kya
kab rokne se rukte hain deewane
hai deewani ye jaawani koyi samjhaye kya
kab rokne se rukte hain deewane
tu hai abhi nadaan jara soch meri jaan
roz aate nahi din aise mastaane
na na na meri jaan, dekho jaanaa na wahaan
koi pyaar kaa luteraa, loote na meri jaan
na na na meri jaan, dekho jaanaa na wahaan
koi pyaar kaa luteraa, loote na meri jaan
re papapa lalala
kahin aankh na mili, kahin dil na laga
to ye pyaar kaa zamaanaa kis kaam aayaa
to ye rut ye ghataa bolo sochegi kyaa
jo kisi ka na hothon pe naam aaya
main chali main chali, dekho pyaar ki gali
mujhe roke na koyi, main chali main chali
na na na meri jaan, dekho jaanaa na wahaan
koi pyaar kaa luteraa, loote na meri jaan
re papa lalala
lalala lalala

There is another song in the bicycle category – “Banke panchhi gaye pyar ka taraana …” from Anari, where Nutan and all of her friends go bicycling merrily till Nutan crashes into Raj kapoor, right at the end of the song, of course.
I am not sure about this but the Tamil version of Nazrana had a bicycle song, so I was wondering if the Hindi version of that song, “Bikhra ke zulfen chaman mein na jaana …” was also a bicycle song. I couldn’t find it on the Internet.
All these songs remind me of the days when life was so much less complicated and people believed in each other and we all believed in India and our leaders.

A slight but important miss in the lyrics before ” kahin aankh naa mili kahin dil na laga ” — ” Aami Kichhu Bole Na ” , a Bengali Hindi phrase . All the cyclists sing in unison , thereby adding melodious effect to the song .

Thanks for this too, Atul.
I love this song .
You hit the nail absolutely on the head when you said :
“Watching the picturisation makes me realise that life India of those days was so simple and laidback as compared to now. I yearn to have a time machine so that I may go to that era and experience it again.”
This is indeed a throwback to those times.
I think that is one of the reasons this song resonates so well with me. And of course RD’s catchy music.
