(A tribute to Shashi Kapoor on his birth anniversary 18th March)
——————————————-————————————————————————-
Today 18th March’2023 is the eighty-fifth birth anniversary of actor-producer and director Shashi Kapoor.
He was born on 18th March’1938 and he passed away on 4th December’2017 at the age of seventy-eight.
Shashi Kapoor needs no introduction. There is a long list of movies he acted in. Many movies in the ‘seventies’ had him playing ‘lead’ or ‘supporting’ roles, and he was part of many movies of that decade (1971-1980) and even later.
Shashi Kapoor who started as a ‘child artist’ in Hindi movies later became Assistant Director, Actor, Producer and Director. He won many accolades and awards in his long film career.
As a tribute to him today I am presenting a song from one of his movies from the ‘seventies’.
We will get introduced to this movie on the blog today. This movie is ‘Koi Jeeta Koi Haaraa-1976’.
It was directed by for Sameer Ganguly for ‘Lakshmi Movies’.
‘Koi Jeeta Koi Haaraa-1976’ was produced by Anand Bhargava. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 09.06.1976.
The cast of this movie included Saira Banu, Shashi Kapoor, Romesh Sharma, Farida Jalal, Nazeer Hussain, Urmila Bhatt, Krishnakant, Manik Dutt, Jagdish Raj, Sharad Kumar, Pinchoo Kapoor, Master Shaka, Lalita Kumari, Tiger Kapoor, and others with Narendranath and Ranjeet.
Jagdeep and Junior Mehmood had a friendly appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by the ‘Lakshmi Movies Story Department’. Scenario and dialogues of this movie was written by Agha Jani Kashmiri. Screenplay of this movie was written by Naiem. Editing of this movie was done by V.K. Naik.
‘Koi Jeeta Koi Haaraa-1976’ has five songs in it which all were written by Anand Bakshi. Music for this movie was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle and Mohd Rafi had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
Here is the list of songs in this movie :-
SNo | Song Title | Singer/s |
---|---|---|
01 | O baba, shaadi tum o baba na karnaa | Lata Mangeshkar |
02 | Ban gayi baat baaton mein … | Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle |
03 | Ae, oh, chup raho naa… aaj ham tum donon | Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle |
04 | Teri meri baat nahin kismat ka khel hain saara… Koi jeeta koi haaraa | Mohd Rafi |
05 | Hamne har ek galat kaam kiya hai … | Kishore Kumar |
I have neither watched this movie nor I have any recollections of songs associated with this movie’s name. However when I listened to the songs of this movie I find today’s song a little familiar and one which I had listened to earlier on radio or elsewhere.
Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. It is a ‘romantic song’ which is picturised on Shashi Kapoor and Saira Banu.
We can also see Romesh Sharma driving towards he end of the song.
Let us now listen to the song and remember Shashi Kapoor, thanking him for giving us so many fond memories of his movies and the various characters he essayed on the screen, some of which become memorable and unforgettable in the history of Indian Cinema.

Hullo Atuldom
Navratri. Nine nights of festivities. Celebrated through the country in honour of Devi Maa, Maa Durga, or the Holy Trinity of Durga Lakshmi Saraswati. Also Rama’s victory over Ravana and rescuing Devi Seeta from Lanka. No wonder the 10th day of the festival is called Vijaya Dashami.
I have got a Whatsapp forward which gives a perspective of the day as ” Dussehra is a Sanskrit word which means removal of Ten Bad Qualities within oneself, namely
Ahankara (Ego),
Amanavta (Cruelty),
Anyaaya (Injustice),
Kama vasana (Lust),
Krodha (Anger),
Lobha (Greed),
Mada (Pride),
Matsara (Jealousy can also mean competition which is a result of jealousy),
Moha (attachment),
Swartha (Selfishness)”;
which means that ‘Vijaya over these Ten Bad Qualities. (I thought that this was a great thought and hence shared it here)
Dussehra marks the culmination of the Ram Leela, at various venues across the country, with the burning of the effigies of Meghnad (son of Ravana), Kumbhakarna (brother of Ravana) and Ravana himself. Dussehra is also the last day of the Durga Puja for the people from Eastern India (wherever in the world they be). The Durga Puja begins on the sixth day of Navartri, when the idols of the goddess is installed along with those of her children Ganesh and Kartik and Devi Laxmi and Devi Saraswati. Dussehra is the day when the idols are immersed in the holy waters of the rivers after morning puja, kumkum khela etc. Festivities in western India too come to a close with all the rituals associated. So we are at the end of one festival waiting for the next -Deepavali.
Let us bring this festival to a close with this all important aarthi which is from “Purab Aur Paschim” (yes, there are some songs from this film yet to be posted). In the film this traditional aarthi plays at the start to set the story of the movie in motion. It shows Ashok Kumar (whose birth anniversary it was two days ago) leading a group of devotees which includes Kamini Kaushal and Nirupa Roy (13th October was her death anniversary). As the song plays, we see the Union Jack being lowered and replaced by the Indian Tricolour. The movie too becomes ‘color’ from ‘black-n-white’. The aarthi is also used to introduce almost all the characters of the movie, we see ‘Bharat’ growing up from Master Alankar to Manoj Kumar and Bharathi (south Indian actress) growing into ‘Gopi’. The movie closes with the aarthi as Saira Banu accepts that she has liked the Indian way of life and her mother Shammi and brother Rajendranath also join the aarthi.
The aarthi is in the voices of Mahendra Kapoor, Brij Bhushan and Shyama Chittar. The music director for the movie were Kalyanji Anandji, who have stuck to the traditional format in here.
Happy Bijoya/ Vijaya Dashami to one and all.

acha baba jo kahogi wo karoonga

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 116 #
——————————————
Regulars on the blog must have noticed that nowadays I ’am focusing on ‘one-song movie’ viz movies that are represented in the blog by just one song.
When I took this mission I mainly wanted to focus on movies from the ‘Melodious Decade’ or ‘the golden era’ years i.e. 1951-1960, and I will continue with it in the future as well.
However, the song I am going to present today is not from a movie of fifties (1951-1960), but it is from one of the movies of ‘seventies. This movie made its debut in the blog twelve years ago in 2008. After that there has been no activity in the blog as far as this movie is concerned.
When we come across such cases, we have to thank the ‘Blog Ten Year Challenge’ started by Atul ji in 2019. At least some ‘un ‘Yippeeee’ed’ movies are now getting noticed as a result. Ten Year Challenge unearthed some movies that were left with just one song in the blog and their second song got covered exactly ten year later as part of ‘Blog Ten Year Challenge’ (or ‘BTYC’).
This also gave me the idea that we should check movies that were left with only one song for the longest period and we should work out their statistics viz what is the record longest period for such instances where a movie waited for its second song on the blog. 😊
Coming back to the today’s movie now, today’s song is from ‘Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam-1974’.
‘Mera Vachan Geeta Ki Qasam’ was directed by Vinod Kumar for ‘M.M.R. Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Vinod Kumar and A. Nairang. (This movie is dedicated to the memory of Vinod Kumar, who I guess passed away either during production or post production of this movie). It had Saira Banu, Sanjay (Sanjay Khan), Ajit, Johny Walker, Nazima and Om Prakash, co-starring with K.N. Singh, Jagirdar, Tiwari, Ram Mohan, Haridas Shukla, S.N. Tripathi, Tun Tun, Shamim, Indira, Baby Shanoo, Major Anand, Raj Deepak, Mona, Monaliza, Geeta Kapoor, Qamar Sarhadi, Ramlal, Aziz, Kamal.
The movie introduced Qaim Raaj. And Madan Puri make a friendly appearance in the movie. Also, Laxmi Chhaya and Jankidas make special appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Vinod Kumar who screenplay and dialogues of this movie and was the director of this movie. Prabhakar Supare was the editor of this movie.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 23.07.1974.
(But I am not sure if it was released then or later, because many sources mentioned 1977 as the year of this movie).
This movie has five songs – all sung by – Asha Bhonsle. Hasrat Jaipuri penned all the five songs and Shankar-Jaikishan composed the music for this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Saira Banu is lip-syncing and performing it on the screen while Sanjay Khan and many others can see watching this ‘nautanki’ type song in a village set-up…
I have not watched this movie and I think this movie must have been a forgotten one. I would request knowledgeable readers, who have watched this movie, to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
Let us now listen to today’s song . It is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan and written by Hasrat Jaipuri. Asha Bhonsle is the singer of this song …

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 111 # Debutant movie-Saazish-1975
——————————————————————————
Today’s song is from the 1975 movie ‘Saazish’.
This movie is making its debut on our blog. It is part of one of my ‘projects’ of bringing ‘movies with same title’ on the blog. We already have a movie with this title released in ‘1959’ represented on the blog. (Incidentally this movie was also launched on the blog with a lyrics contribution sent by me then 😊) (isme meri koi saazish nahin thhi 😊)
There are were two more movies with the same title ‘Saazish’ made in 1988 & 1998, not yet represented in the blog.
‘Saazish-1975’ was directed by Kalidas for ‘Maya Movietone, Bombay’. Kalidas was also the producer of this movie. It had Saira Banu, Dharmendra, Dev Kumar, Rajendra Nath, Madan Puri, Jagdish Raj, Murad, Gayjee, David, Helen etc. Iftekhar and Paintal make special appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Ranjan Bose. And screenplay and dialogues were written by Ramesh Pant. Editing of this movie was done by Waman Bhonsle and Guru Dutt Shirali.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 03.02.1975.
‘Saazish-1975’ has five songs written by Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by Shankar-Jaikishan.
Here are the details of the songs of this movie in order of their appearance (which should be according to the appearing of these songs in the movie) HFGK Vol-V 1971-1980.
Song | Singer/s |
---|---|
Na taaj chaahiye na takht chaahiye, tera pyaar chaahiye har waqt chaahiye | Asha Bhonsle |
Wo bade khushnaseeb hote hain aap jiske kareeb hote hain | Mahendra Kapoor, Suman Kalyanpur |
Haay phir zaraa zaraa koi teer sa chubha, dil to huaa fidaa | Sharda |
Tujhe hamne chaaha apna samajh kar | Mahendra Kapoor, Saira Banu |
How sweet dada ji | Asha Bhonsle, Ranu Mukherjee |
As I mentioned above, this movie was in my ‘wish-list’ for the ‘project’ of introducing ‘movies with same titles’ on the blog. However, somehow, I had forgotten about this movie due to my attention to other posts. Our dear Prakash ji had also recently sent two songs from this movie for different occasions. But I am leaving them for future posts, because I was looking for a Suman Kalyanpur song composed by Shankar-Jaikishan (for obvious reasons -😊- regulars on the blog and those interested in statistics can guess it easily 😊).
So, today I am presenting a song from this movie sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Suman Kalyanpur.
This song is picturized on Dharmendra and Saira Banu (at foreign locations I guess) where Dharmendra is lip syncing in Mahendra Kapoor’s voice and Saira Banu is lip syncing in the voice of Suman Kalyanpur (obviously 😊).
I have not watched this movie and would like to request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie, its details and its song please.
With the today’s song ‘Saazish-1975’ makes its debut on the blog … (😊 ye zaroor meri saazish ka hissaa hai 😊)
let us now enjoy today’s song from “Saazish”(1975)…

Recently, I came across on internet an offer for sale of an used Extended Play (EP) record of the songs of ‘Aaj Raat Ko’, the film which I had never heard of. The EP was released in 1975 by Polydor India Ltd which had 4 songs – 2 songs on each side. All the songs were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri which were set to music by R D Burman. On checking these songs on one of the video sharing platforms, I found that all the 4 songs were uploaded in audio format. The songs were in the typical mould of R D Burman’s compositions. In one of the audio clips, a record-cover photograph was displayed with a couple of scenes from the film showing Saira Bano, Sujit Kumar and Vinod Mehra. I could not locate the full film on-line.
The description given by the uploader of the audio clip revealed that the film, ‘Aaj Raat Ko’ remained unreleased for reasons unknown. Probably, one of the reasons could be the sudden departure of Vinod Khanna who was one of the main actors in the film, to join Rajneesh in the USA. The film was revived when Vinod Khanna returned from USA in 1985. It got Censor Board certificated on January 25, 1988 under a new title ‘Faisla’ (1988). According to a comment recorded by the son of the producer of the film on the video clip of one of the songs, his father, the producer suffered huge losses due to unprofessional behaviour of some actors and the film was delayed by 13 years. According to him, this film never got released in theaters and was ultimately sold to distributors for paltry sums. The film was released on satellite television.
‘Faisla’ (1988) is now available for watching on one of the video sharing platforms but the print is so bad that images look blurred. There is loss of continuity in some places as a result of which the story in the film looks disjointed. The songs in the film are muted probably on copyright ground.
‘Faisla’(1988) was produced under the banner of Noor Jahan Films and was directed by S Ramanathan. It was a multi-cast film with Ashok Kumar, Saira Bano, Vinod Khanna, Vinod Mehra, Mehmood, Sujeet Kumar, Chandrashekhar, Ranjeet, Gajanan Jagirdar, and Bindu forming the main star cast. It is a typical Bollywood film catering to the expectations of the type of film audience who loves masala films having action, dance and comedy, villain etc. As usual, in such type of film, the story ends with victory over the evils.
All the 4 songs which were in the original film ‘Aaj Raat Ko’ (1975, UR) have been retained in ‘Faisla’ (1988). I am presenting the first song ‘champa khili daar palak jhoole pyaar’ from the film to appear on the Blog. The song is rendered by Mohammed Rafi and picturised on Vinod Mehra. Saira Bano is also present in the song sequence. Fortunately, video clip of the song is available in which the song starts with humming and two lines of the song rendered by Asha Bhosle who sings for Saira Bano. The audio clip does not have the humming by Asha Bhosle and is also shorter in terms of duration than the video clip as there is no repetition of lines of antaras. While the audios of the songs have been released under the original title. ‘Aaj Raat Ko’ (1975), the video clip of the song has been taken from ‘Faisla’ (1988).
One can make out from the voice of Mohammed Rafi that song was recorded sometime in early 1970s. During the same period, Mohammed Rafi in combination with Majrooh Sultanpuri and R D Burman had also rendered songs of the same mood, like ‘goriya kahaan tera desh re’ (Caravan, 1971) and ‘gori ke haath mein jaise ye chella’ (Mela, 1971).
With this song, ‘Aaj Raat Ko’ (1975, UR)/Faisala (1988) makes its debut on the Blog.

Hullo Atuldom
23rd August was the birthday of the beautiful Saira Banu. She was born to yesteryear actress Naseem Banu and producer Mian Ehsan-Ul-Haq in 1944.
She made her debut opposite Shammi Kapoor in 1961 as the OH! so gorgeous Kashmiri ‘Kali’ with her introduction song being “Kaashmir ki kali hoon main mujhse na rootho babuji”. In all the years, since then she has remained gorgeous and aged gracefully. In between then and now, she was an active star in the Hindi film firmament till about 1976 when Prakash Mehra directed “Hera Pheri” released. She appeared in a cameo with her husband Dilip Kumar in Yash Johar produced and Ramesh Talwar directed “Duniya” (1984) as parents of Rishi Kapoor.
One of the movies-Faisla- that she acted in the 70s released in 1988; this was her last official release. But this beauty had the best costars in the 15-16 years that she was active with ‘Padosan’ opposite Sunil Dutt catapulting her to the top league after which “Victoria No 203” opposite Navin Nischol was a big hit. We have seen her opposite Dharmendra in ‘Jwar Bhata’, ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan’, ‘Resham Ki Dori’, ‘Pocketmaar’, ‘Chaitali’, and ‘International Crook’. She was in ‘Purab Aur Paschim’, ‘Balidaan’, and ‘Shaadi’ with Manoj Kumar as her hero. But her pairing with Dilip Kumar in ‘Gopi’, ‘Sagina’ and ‘Bairaag’ was after her marriage to her childhood crush.
As I was preparing the post for wishing the beautiful Saira Banu I looked for possible songs and made a discovery. I always thought that the 1970 releases ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ and ‘Gopi’ would have been Yyippeeeed by now. A thought that came because we have 15800+ songs on our blog and we have been active for 12+ years. I find we have four songs of “Purab Aur Paschim” out a possible eight or nine songs. We have
(1) dulhan chali o pahan chali
(2) Hai preet jahaan ki reet sada, a post that has 51 comments, must be a record. The last comment was on 6th August 2018.
(3) koyi jab tumhaara hriday tod de
(4) purwa suhaani aayi re purwa was the last to be posted.
That too eight years ago. How have we missed posting songs from this movie. Chalo let us take it a step forward.
Here is a song that is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Asha Bhonsle. It is written by Prem Dhawan and set to music by the brothers Kalyanji- Anandji. The song begins with some dialogue between puppets that are dressed as a Jat and Videshi Mem. The whole event is meant to belittle the westernized character played Saira Banu as Preethi the daughter of an Indian brought up in London. It ends when she realizes that she is being made fun of. (Personally I felt that we take this ‘west is bad east is best’ a little too far)
Incidentally, 24th August happens to mark 20 years since Kalyanji Virji Shah (30 June 1928-24 August 2000) said good bye to this world. He was the music director of such hits as “mera jeevan kora kaagaz kora hi reh gaya”, “rote hue aate hai sab hasta hua jo jaayega”, “jiska koi nahi uska toh khuda hai yaaron” (as Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey solos) and the still-so-popular “Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi”. Of course, the songs I have mentioned were all in the 70s and 80s, years when I was growing up and learning to appreciate songs.
But Kalyanji, of the duo, began as a musician in the early 50s. He was the one who played the Clavioline for the songs of ‘Nagin” that were essentially Hemant Kumar scores. Remember the “Nagin-been” from 1954 which has become the signature tune used in all serpent-related songs, scenes and movies? He formed an orchestra group with his brother Anandji, all those years ago, which performed in and around Bombay (as Mumbai used to be called). His arrival in the industry was in, what is called, the golden period of Hindi Film Music when SD Burman, OP Nayyar, Madan Mohan etc were the compeetition. He still managed to get a foothold “Samrat Chandragupt” was his first film. He was officially joined by his brother Anandji, to form the duo, with movies like Satta Bazaar, Chhalia etc. The long journey of the duo gave us many gems and we treasure all of them lovingly. Thank You Kalyanjibhai- Anandjibhai.
Coming back to today’s song- wishing Saira Banu all health and happiness even if a day late & remembering Kalyanjibhai. Here is that song for which the farmaish/ reminder was made on 6th August 2018.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No.57
————————————————–
22 August 2010, the day that fell exactly ten years ago, was a day when normal blog service was going on smoothly, which meant six songs were covered on the day, in chronological order. The day began with an iconic song from 1944 movie “Ratan”. Then songs from “Jogan”(1950), “Amaanat”(1955), “Samrat Chandragupta”(1958), “Do Badan”(1966) and “Balidaan”(1971) were covered.
Looking at the time when these songs were posted, I notice that the first song was posted at 5:32 AM in the morning and the last song at 7:49 AM. So it means that I had woken up well before 5 AM in the morning and I was dopne for the day before 8 AM.
Those were the days. I wonder how I had that kind of drive ten years ago, when I would wake up so early in the morning. Not that I slept early. I remember Peevesie’s mom commenting those days -“ye banda sota kab hai !” 🙂
Here is the list of songs that were covered on 22 August 2010:-
Blog post number | Song | Movie | Year | Posting time | Remarks |

The song is picturised on Saira Bano, with Manoj Kumar and Manmohan also seen in the picturisation. The song is “Jab tak hai jaan main naachhongi” genre of song, where the villain Manmohan had Manoj Kumar tied up and Saira Bano must dance to save his life. 🙂
The video is available as part of the film but that is without sound.

Song-O jhhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhe darinde (Balidaan)(1971) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Verma Malik, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics (Perovided by Prakashchandra)(based on audio link)
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
gunaahon ke putley
hawas ke bhikhaari
agar zindagi ne diya saath mera
to ik din mitaa doongi hasti tumhaari
o jhoothi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
gunaahon ke putley
hawas ke bhikhaari
agar zindagi ne diya saath mera
to ik din mitaa doongi hasti tumhaari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
meri aabroo aaj be-aabroo hai
lo hasrat nikaalo
lagi ko bujhaa lo o
meri aabroo aaj be-aabroo hai
lo hasrat nikaalo
lagi ko bujhaa lo o
issey aaj nazron se jaancho ya parkho
issey chaahey mehfil ki raunaq banaa lo
magar soch kar haath aagey badhaana
magar soch kar haath aagey badhaana
qasam khaa ke kehti hain aankhein kunwaari
o jhoothi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
gunaahon ke putley
hawas ke bhikhaari
agar zindagi ne diya saath mera
to ik din mitaa doongi hasti tumhari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
o paagal lutere
o naadaan qaatil
utthaa apna khanjar
tu kya sochtaa hai ae
o paagal lutere
o naadaan qaatil
utthaa apna khanjar
tu kya sochtaa hai
tere zulm ki intehaa hai jahaan par
wahin se mere sabr ka ibtidaa hai
o zaalim main uss desh ki laadli hoon
o zaalim main uss desh ki laadli hoon
jahaan jaan se bhi izzat hai pyaari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
gunaahon ke putley
hawas ke bhikhaari
agar zindagi ne diya saath mera
to ik din mitaa doongi hasti tumhari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
kahaan so gaya hai tu duniya ke maalik
tere is jahaan mein kya ho raha hai ae
kahaan so gaya hai tu duniya ke maalik
tere is jahaan mein kya ho raha hai ae
meri jholi mein aaj insaaf bhar dey
main samjhoongi koi mera bhi khuda hai
agar na hua aaj insaaf tujh se ae
agar na hua aaj insaaf tujh se
to rakh doon jalaa ke khudaai tumhaari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
gunaahon ke putley
hawas ke bhikhaari
agar zindagi ne diya saath mera
to ik din mitaa doongi hasti tumhaari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey
gunaahon ke putley
hawas ke bhikhaari
agar zindagi ne diya saath mera
to ik din mitaa doongi hasti tumhaari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey ae
Sone ke gahne kyun toone pahne

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 42
——————————————————————————————
Though I have been discussing Hindi movie songs in the blog for more than a decade now, it is not as if I had watched too many movies during my “formative” years. I recall having watched a few movies in early 1970s, with the last of these movies being “Zindagi Zindagi” (1972) in 1972.
My movie watching spree began in 1978 (after six years) when I joined college and got “freedom” that I as a college goer was “supposed” to enjoy. 🙂 And I fully misused my freedom, by watching movies when I should have been attending my classes.
It was during this movie watching spree that I watched not just the current movies but also those movies which had come between 1972 and 1978 which I had missed during their time. This included all Amitabh Bachchan hit movies like “Zanjeer” (1973), “Deewaar”(1975), “Sholay” (1975) etc.
When my pre teen movie watching ended in 1972, I had watched very few movies. I could only identify Rajesh Khanna, Tanuja, Mumtaz etc thanks to Rajesh Khanna movies like “Haathi Mere Saathi”(1971) and “Apna Desh” (1972) that I got to watch at that time. Thanks to watching “Haqeeqat”(1964) is an open field show at night in my railway colony, I became familiar with Dharmendra. In another such free show, I watched “Dil Diya Dard Liya”(1966) and that is how I became familiar with Dilip Kumar.
That was about it. I had not watched any movies of Rajendra Kumar, Raj Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, Saira Bano etc till 1978 !
During my “catching up with lost time” movie watching spree, I watched “Resham Ki Dori”(1974) some time in 1978 or 1979. This movie, as I know now thanks to HFGK, was directed by Atmaram for Modern Pictures Bombay. The movie had Saira Bano, Dharmendra, Kumud Chhugaani, Rajendranath, Sujit Kumar, Sajja, Ramesh Deo, Rajan Haksar, Jayshree T, Kundan, Meena T, Bhagwan, Shabnam, Sapru, Shivraj, Jankidas, Keshav Rana, Sundar, Master Sachin, Ramlal, Bhagwan Sinha, Leela Mishra, Radheshyam, Chaand Usmani (Special appearance), Kanwar Ajit, Suresh, Murad etc in it.
Except Dharmendra, almost every other actor in the movie was “new” and unfamiliar for me. Many of them continued to remain unfamiliar to me for decades. For instance, I was not aware which actress played the sister of Dharmendra in this movie. Somehow I had erroneously assumed that she was called Urmila Bhatt (I find , to my surprise that she is not even there in the cast). Only now, when I checked up the starcast, I realised that the sister had to be Kumud Chhugaani.
The movie had six songs in it. The most popular song of the song was the raakhi song and it was posted exactly ten years ago. So that means that this day ten year ago was the festival of Rakshabandhan. And as was the practice in the blog, Rakhi related songs were discussed on the blog on that day (5 august 2009).
Song | Movie | Remarks |
---|---|---|
Behna ne bhai ki kalaayi pe pyaar baandha hai | (Reshan ki dori)(1974) | 2 songs covered out of 6 |
dil se dil ki dor baadhi chori chori | (Chaayaa)(1961) | YIPPEED (all 7 songs covered) |
Aaya tumpe dil aaya | (Do Ustaad)(1959) | YIPPEED (all 8 songs covered) |
Soona hai mere dil ka jahaan | (Devtaa)(1956) | 4 songs covered out of 8 |
Dil tootnaa thha dil toot gaya | (Dilruba)(1950) | YIPPEED (all 11 songs covered) |
Marne ki duaayen kyun maangoon | (Ziddi)(1948) | YIPPEED (all 9 songs covered) |
As can be seen, six songs from six movies were covered on 5 august 2009. Four out of these six movies have been YIPPEED by now.
Today, we take up one of the unYIPPEED movies, namely “Reshan ki dori”(1974).
The two songs of this movie that have been covered till now are
S N | Song | Song number in blog | Date of posting |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Bahnaa ne bhaayi ki kalaayi se pyaar baandhaa hai | 1729 | 5-Aug-09 |
2 | Chamka paseena ban ke nageena | 9116 | 8-Dec-13 |
Today, as part of blog ten year challenge (2009-2019), here is a song from “Resham Ki Dori”(1974). This song is a lovers’s song. It is sung by Rafi, with a few sweet nothings uttered by Saira Bano (I guess). Indeewar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
The song is picturised on Dharmendra and Saira Bano. It was for the first time in this movie that I had seen Saira Bano in a movie. I had not seen her in “Padosan”(1968) because my elders did not take me to watch this (or other well known movies) of those days.

Saira Bano
Lyrics (Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
Sone ke gahne
Kyun tune pahne
Kaaya teri khud kanchan hai ae
Gesu banaaye to
Phool kyun sajaaye
Tera badan khud gulshan hai ae
Achchhaa
Sone ke gahne
Kyun tune pahne ae
A haa haa
dhat
Heere ki angoothhi bhi
Lagti hai jhoothhi
Itni chamak teri aankhon mein ae
Ja ja
Jhoothhe
Moti ki maala
Kyun pahni baalaa
Moti chhupe hai tere daanton mein
Haay Raam
Moti chhupe hai tere daaton mein
Ghadi ghadi darpan ke ae
Oye hoye hoye hoye
Ghadi ghadi darpan ke ae
Aage khadi kyun
Tera badan khud darpan hai
Hato ji
Sone ke gahne
Kyun tune pahne
Kaaya teri khud kanchan hai ae ae
Sone ke gahne
Kyun tune pahne
Hmm mm
how romantic
Sooraj sa chamke
Jab tera mukhda
Maathe pe bindiya sajaayi kyun
Haan
Ha h h h sach
Laali bina honthh laal hai tere
Hothhon pe laali lagaayi kyun
Hmm mm
Hothhon pe laali lagaayi kyun
Singaar ki ee
Haaye ae main mar jaawaan
Singaar ki tujhe kya hai zaroorat
Tera singaar tera yauvan hai
uff
Sone ke gahne
Kyun tune pahne
Kaaya teri khud kanchan hai ae ae
Laa laa laa laa
Gesu banaaye to
Laa laa laal laa
Phool kyun sajaaye
Laa laa laal laa
Tera badan khud gulshan hai ae
Hmm hmm hmm hmm
Sone ke gahne kyun tune pahne

“Chaitaali”(1975) was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji for Bimal Roy Productions, Bombay. This “social” movie had Saira Bano, Dharmendra, Bindu, Pradeep Kumar, Durga Khote, Asit Sen, Shyama, Abhi Bhattacharya, Ritu Kamal, Tarun Ghosh, Ranjan, S N Bannerji, Kavesh, Brahm Bhardwaj, Amal sen, Krishna Bose, Nandita Aras, Anwari Bai, Asrani etc in it, with guest appearances by Deena Pathak and Paintal.
This movie, despite being a movie of recent vintage by the standards of the blog has ended up as a very obscure movie. It was a “boring” movie as far as public was cncerned so the movie sank at the box office without a trace.
The movie had three songs in it. The songs were “boring” as well, so they too failed to get popular.
Two of these songs have been covered in the blog. Here are their details:-

Here is the third and final song from “Chaitaali”(1975) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
The song is picturised on Saira Bano who sings this song on the farmaish of Dharmendra. In Hindi movies, whenever someone is asked to sing a song, one tends to sing a song expressing one’s inner feelings which the wise audience is able to understand whereas the person to whom it is intended over misses the message contained in the song, at least till the last reel. 🙂
I may have missed noting down a few words correctly. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable.
With this song, “Chaitaali”(1975) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

tumhen koi geet sunaaun
sargam ke phoolon se
geeton ka haar banaaun
sargam ke phoolon se
kayi kaliyaan khilin
kayi kaliyaan khilin
kayi kaliyaan khilin
kayi khilne se pahle murjhaane lagi
kayi baaten zubaan par aayin
kayi dil mein hi rah jaane lagin
kayi baaten zubaan par aayin
kayi dil mein hi rah jaane lagin
phir kaise ab aake
tumhen man ki baat bataaun
sargam ke phoolon se
geeton ka har banaaun
sargam ke phoolon se
aa aa aa

koyi nadiya mili koyi nadiya mili
koyi nadiya mili saagar se
koyi raste mein chhoot gayi
koyi dor patang ke sang udi
koyi beech gagan mein toot gayi
koyi dor patang ke sang udi
koyi beech gagan mein toot gayi
anjaane jeevan ka
kab tak main saath nibhaaun
sargam ke phoolon se geeton ka haar banaaun
sargam ke phoolon se geeton ka haar banaaun
tum jaise
tum jaisa
tumhe koyi geet sunaaun
sargam ke phoolon se
geeton ka haar banaaun
