Sakhi ri mera man uljhe tan dole

“Chitralekha” (1964) was a labour of love for Roshan and he had composed some superb songs in this movie. So it was a heart break for him when the movie did not do well at the box office, almost like what happened with Madan Mohan with “Jahan Ara” in the same year.
I have posted “man re tu kaahe na dheer dhare” from “Chitralekha”, which is widely regarded as one of the finest movie songs of all time.
But what about this Lata song ? Let me admit that I heard this song for the first time only yesterday, but I was simply mesmerised. To my mond, this song is just amazing. If “man re tu kaahe na dheer dhare” is so highly regarded, then this song cannot be regarded any differently.
Sarod plays a very important part in Roshan’s tunes, and it certainly shows in this song. Roshan had called for Kishore Desai (renowned Sarod and Mandolin player) to play Sarod for this song. Kishore Desai was a disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan whereas Roshan was a disciple of Ustad Allaudeen Khan( father of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan).
I have listened to this song only twice so far, and I am already feeling that this song has to be one of timeless classics of Lata as well as Roshan.

Sahir & Roshan: You can almost always count on superb lyrics and great music.
There is another classic by Lata in this movie: “Sansar se bhage phirte ho, bhagwan ko tum kya paoge”
This is one movie (other than “Mamta” & “Aarti”) where Rohan used Lata in multiple songs and all were quite popular.

The sarod in Manre tu kahe na dhir dhare was played by Shri. Virendra Kumar Mathur, a noted sarodist of his times.

Veerendra Mathur played for Roshan for the last time in this song.He was upset on Roshan’s comment.Kishore Desai took over from him

Hi,
I am not aware of my father being upset with Mr. Roshan or anyone else.
This is a wrong interpretation. Hope you can set it right.
