Bahaaron phool barsaao mera mahboob aaya hai

“Suraj” was a movie starring Rajendra Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala. I am sure this movie was very successful, as befitted Rajendra Kumar’s nickname of “Jubilee Kumar”.
But few people will disagree with me if I say that the music of this movie was the rear star, the real draw. Remove the songs from this movie and no one would go to the movie to watch the histrionics of Rajendra Kumar.
I have already posted an awesome song from this movie ( “itna hai tumse pyaar”). But the song that really took the country by storm that year was yeyt another song from this movie.
This song was “Bahaaron phool barsaao mera mahboob aaya hai”. The popularity of this song was just mind boggling. There is little doubt that rafi was the real star of this song. He sang this song with passion, as was his wont. Hasrat Jaipuri’s lyrics and Shankar Jaikishan’s music were wonderful.
The song was picturised on Rajendra Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala on picturesque locations. It is an out and out iconic song in the annals of Bollywood music.
Song-Bahaaron phool barsaao (Suraj) (1966) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
bahaaron phool barsaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
bahaaron phool barsaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
hawaaon raagini gaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
o laali phool ki mehandi lagaa in gore haathon mein
utar aa ai ghataa kaajal, lagaa in pyaari aankhon mein
sitaaron maang bhar jaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
bahaaron phool barsaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
nazaaron har taraf ab taan do ik noor ki chaadar
badaa sharmeelaa dilbar hai, chalaa jaaye na sharmaa kar
zaraa tum dil ko bahlaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
bahaaron phool barsaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
sajaayi hai jawaan kaliyon ne ab ye sej ulfat ki
inhen maaloom thaa aayegi ik din rut muhabbat ki
fizaaon rang bikhraao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
bahaaron phool barsaao
meraa mahboob aayaa hai
meraa mahboob aayaa hai

Its a timeless song. If you (I mean next generations) listen it after 500 years it will sound fresh.

If you have to choose one song from thousands, of five greatest Bollywood singers, it would be
Rafi “Baharon Phool Barsao”
Lata “Barsat Mein Hum Se Mile Tum”
Mukesh “Awara Hoon”
Asha “Parde Mein Rehne Do”
Kishore “Mere Sapnoon Ki Rani”
