(Debutant Movie – Dilwaale Dulhaniyaan Le Jaayenge-1980)
‘Le jaayenge le jaayenge, dilwaale dulhaniyaa le jaayenge’ from ‘Chor Machaaye Shor-1974’ has become a cult song. The phrase ‘dilwaale dulhaniyaa le jaayenge’ has become an phrase that compulsorily gets used in Indian wedding related matters. It became one of the must play song in Indian baaraat procession. Half a century have passed since this song was created and this song is still going strong in wedding circles. 21 years after this song was created, a movie was made with the title ‘Dilwaale Dulhaniyaan Le Jaayenge’-1995, which was without a doubt a tribute to the iconic song of ‘Chor Machaaye Shor-1974’. The movie became a super duper blockbuster.
However, that 1995 movie was not the first movie with that title. Same title ‘Dilwaale Dulhaniyaan Le Jaayenge’ was used in a movie of 1980, but this movie went unnoticed and had ended up as an obscure and rare movie of its time. I am not even aware if this movie was ever released, because I had never heard of this movie until I got my copy of Geet Kosh Volume-V (1971-1980) in the year 2015. After becoming aware of the existence of this movie, I was looking for the songs of this movie. The songs from this movie were not available easily. Somehow today morning when I was browsing for other songs I noticed that a few songs from this 1980 movie are now available on internet. So, today I am presenting the first song from this movie.

Today’s song is one of the very few songs sung by the Music Director Anil Biswas. Today’s film is Bhookh-1947.
In olden days, there were 3 major film centres-Bombay, Lahore and Calcutta. After 1947, all the Hindi film activity at Lahore shifted to Bombay. By mid 50’s even Calcutta almost stopped making Hindi films. Many Hindi speaking artistes in various disciplines of film making shifted to Bombay and finally Bombay became the only and the main Hindi film making Centre.

#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Bandish-1969’. It is a nice song lyrics wise as well as composition wise. However this song has been forgotten, which might be for various reasons viz. the movie not doing well or the movie itself getting forgotten and so few music lovers getting to listen to this song.
I had presented a song from this movie earlier, where I had mentioned that I was not aware of this song till 2018 when I presented a write-up on Singer Jaspal Singh on 02.04.2018.
This movie “Bandish-1969” was directed by Charandas Shokh for ‘J.J. Films, Bombay’. It had Sonia Sahni, Shailendra, Azra, Ulhas, Brahmachari, Shyam Kumar, Sarita Devi, S.K. Prem, Mirza Musharraf, Uma Dhawan, Sushma, Kundan, Dhanraj, Habib, Madhumati, Manmohan and others. This movie has six songs composed by Usha Khanna. Akmal Hyderabadi is the lyricist of the songs in this movie.

Today’s song is a Debut song for its singer- Music Director, S. Purushottam, who sang his only song in a Hindi film ever. The film was Apna Desh-1949.
Normally, the Indian film audience likes to see films which uphold the age old Indian values like, ” Truth prevails” or ” Good wins over evil ” or ” Real Love triumphs ” and such other things. Over a period, certain beliefs had been built over matters like entertainment. When only the stage dramas were available as the source of entertainment, people expected that a Joker (Vidushak) is a necessity in every drama. Even the oldest Sanskrit drama like ” Mrichhkatik” used to have a Vidushak (Joker) in it. In social dramas there always would be a funny character producing laugh and humour. Similarly, when Talkie films started, presence of songs was taken for granted and songs were very much a part of the film in any language, sometimes even as a background song.
