There are some popular Kishore Kumar songs that were inspired from songs that were originally created in 1930 and 1940s and they were from movies featuring Ashok Kumar. For example, Kishore Kumar’s “Padosan” song “ek chatur naar karke singaar” was inspired from “Jhoola”(1941) song, “ek chatur naar kar kar singaar” which was sung by Ashok Kumar and it was picturised on Ashok Kumar himself. For that matter, even the movie “Padosan” was inspired from “Jhoola”(1941).
Then there is Kishore Kumar’s popular song “koi humdum na raha” from “Jhumroo”(1961). This song was inspired from “Jeewan Naiyya”(1936) song Koi humdum na raha which was sung by Ashok Kumar and was picturised on him as well.

Recently, Tommydan55 has uploaded the film PREM KAHAANI (1937) with some cleaning and restoration works relating to both the video and the audio. The full film is here. The result was that I got motivated to watch the movie without much of the strain on my eyes. What a film! As against my expectation of a slow moving story of the film which was my experience in most of the films of the 30s, this film was different. The slick editing of the film ensured that the story moved in a pace comfortable for viewing. This may be the reason as to why I could watch the movie in one sitting which I seldom do especially in respect of old classic Hindi films of 30s and 40s. The DVD/VCD of the movie is of 1 hour 30 minutes which means that the film has been heavily edited for DD/VCD including a couple of songs. But I did not find much issue with the continuity of the story.

It is one of the most important and significant day in the history of Independent India, because it was on this day in 1950 that India became a democratic Republic unlike how it had been earlier. For the first time in the long history of India, all people were guaranteed equal rights and opportunities under the Indian constitution, something which was unimaginable till then.

“Chaand” (1944) was a Prabhat Film Company production. It was directed by D D Kashyap. The movie had Prem Adeeb, Begum Para, Sitara Devi, Sapru, Master Balakram, Ram Singh, Vatsala etc in it.

My familiarity with the film CHAAND (1944) was limited to its iconic song ‘do dilon ko ye duniyaa milne hi nahin deti’ until a few years ago. I had watched the video clip of this song many times in the past. With its beautiful lyrics, I felt that I should watch this full movie before I attempt to write an article on the song. Fortunately, the video of this film is available on the internet.
