Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Mere bachpan ke saathi

Posted on: February 27, 2009

“Anmol Ghadi” (1946) is a movie that is known for some memorable Noorjahan songs. I have already posted one song from this movie ( “aaja meri barbaad muhabbat ke sahaare”).

Here is another Noorjahan song from the same movie. This song “mere bachpan ke saathi mujhe bhool na jaana” is written by Tanveer Naqvi and the music is composed by Naushad.

The song is picturised on Noorjahan herself.

What magical voice ! Of course, I am saying so six decades after this song was recorded. Much has happened since those days. This turned out to be virtually her last Bollywood movie and she went to the newly created nation of Pakistan in 1947.

A vacuum was created and that vacuum was filled by Lata, and the rest, as they say, is history.

This song is a reminder of the pre-independance and pre Lata days of Bollywood female playback singing.

Song-Mere bachpan ke saathi (Anmol Ghadi) (1946) Singer-Noorjahan,Lyrics-Tanveer Naqvi, MD-Naushad

Lyrics

mere bachpan ke saathi mujhe bhool naa jaanaa
dekho dekho hanse na zamaanaa, hanse na zamaanaa
mere bachapan ke saathi mujhe bhool na jaanaa
dekho dekho hanse na zamaanaa, hanse na zamaanaa

gham furqat ke sah na sakoongi
sah na sakoongi
roungi kuchh kah na sakungi
dushman hai saaraa jahaan
dushman hai saaraa jahaan, jaaun kahaan
haan
teri ulfat hai jeene kaa bas ik bahaanaa
dekho dekho hanse na zamaanaa, hanse na zamaanaa

raat guzaarun gin gin taare
gin gin taare
kaise aaun paas tumhaare
tum ho kahin main kahin
tum ho kahin main kahin, chain nahin
ho

ro ro ke kahtaa hai dil, aa saajan mil
ho
bas itnaa hi sun le meraa hai fasaanaa
dekho dekho hanse na zamaanaa, hanse na zamaanaa
mere bachpan ke saathi mujhe bhool naa jaanaa
dekho dekho hanse na zamaanaa, hanse na zamaanaa

Thank you for posting this. I especially like the brief description and historical context, that’s very helpful.

I’m wondering if there’s a link to English lyrics anywhere, or if you might post them here? (a huge task i realize!) … I hate to ask but I’m not Indian (or Pak) and have taught myself a little Hindi and Urdu to start understanding the old films/music I love so much. Anything Noor Jahan related is at the top of my list.

Thanks!

It is very nice to realise that people not of sub continental origin too are interested in songs of Bollywood.

When I had started this blog, I used to provide English translation of the songs. Later on, I decided to do away with providing translations so that I could cover more songs. One translation takes nearly as much time as a song.

However, I am seriously considering providing translations for all the songs that I have posted. Considering that I have posted over 2000 songs, it will be a Herculean task. But I hope to complete that task.
