Kuen mein kood ke mar jaana.. yaaron tum shaadi mat karna

Posted on: June 14, 2009

What a comic genius Kishore Kumar was ! I have posted several Kishore Kumar gems where he sang and enacted superb comic scenes. Songs from “Adhikaar”, “Miss Mary”, “Half Ticket”, “Padosan” etc readily come to mind.

Here is one of the earliest such comedy songs. It is from “Parivaar” (1956) and it is truly a laugh riot.

The scene prior to the song is hilarious. People have gathered to watch a cultural programme in a hall. The announcer announces-” Friends ! You will be pleased to know that a gala cultural programme has been arranged for you. In this programme, world renowned sarod player Mr Ali Akbar Khan, great singer Mr Pankaj Malik, guitar exponent Mr Vilayat Khan , composer of melodious songs Mr Sachin Dev Burman..all these dilgnitaries could not be invited despite there being every intention to invite them.”

As the members of the audience begin to boo, the announcer hastily adds- “There is no reason to be disappointed though. We have for you a person who will entral you”.

The skeptical audience is not convinced. “Who is he ? ” They enquire.

“See for yourself”-the announcer announcer with a flourish and the curtain is opened.

“where is that person. Did you forget to invite him too ?” The audience jeer. A voice comes out from somewhere- “here I am”. The annoucer looks around, and runs towards a kuaan (well) on the stage and pulls out a gentleman from the well. When the person turns around, and the public recognise him, the should gleefully- It is Kishore Kumar !”

And Kishore Kumar then goes on to enthral the public with a superb comedy song, where he advise people not to marry because ther are far too many hurdles and hardships for those who pursue marriage. Jump in the well but do not get married, that is his advice.

This hilarious song has been penned by Shailendra and it is composed by Salil Chowdhury.

What a gem of a song it is ! Simply superb !

PS-This over 8 minute long is in reality a multi part song. Its second part (which is a continuation of the earlier part) is called “Hum ja pahunche Honolulu”. So this song under discussion is in reality two songs in one.

Song-Kuwen mein kood ke mar jaana..yaar tum shaadi mat karna (Parivaar) (1956) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Salil Chaudhary

Lyrics

aa haan haan
kuwen mein
he he
thanda jol mein nahaane se gola tho zora baith gaya
kuwen mein
kuwen mein kood ke mar jaanaa
yaar tum shaadi mat karnaa
kuwen mein kood ke mar jaanaa
yaar tum shaadi mat karnaa
haan kuwen mein kood ke mar jaanaa
yaar tum shaadi mat karnaa
mat karnaa
mat karnaa
mat karnaa
kuwen mein kood ke mar jaanaa
yaar tum shaadi mat karnaa

hahahahahaha

hoho ho ho ho ho
dekhi Dilli ki ik ladki
jisko dekh tabeeyat phadki
mukh se aah nikal gayi thandi
andar-andar aag si bhadki
uskaa naam gharaanaa poochhaa
uskaa thaur-thikaanaa poochhaa
apne dil ki umangen lekar
pahunchaa main uske bangle par

apne dil ki umange lekar
pahunchaa main uske bangle par
jaate hi jhuk ke salaam bajaayaa
daddy ko dil kaa bayaan sunaayaa
bhole-bhaale daddy bole

haan haan ji
haan haan ji
haan haan ji
achchhaa khayaal hai aapkaa
deejiye mujhko pataa apne baap kaa
aapke baap ko chitthi ke zariye bataa doongaa
achchhaa khayaal hai aapkaa
hahahahaha
hahahahaha
hahahahaha

chaay pilaaun ke thandaa mangaaun
oy hoy oy hoy
chaay pilaaun ke thandaa mangaaun
ke murgi ke ande ki bhurji pakaaun
ke chaay pilaaun ke thandaa mangaaun
ke murgi banaaun ke anda khilaaun

hans kar jab wo ladki boli
mere dil pe chal gayi goli
mere man mein bataashe phoote
aakhir maan gaye prabhu roothe
teri jay-jay ho kartaar
teri jay-jay ho kartaar
teri jay-jay ho kartaar
ho teri jay-jay ho kartaar
ho teri jay-jay ho kartaar
are baap re
itne mein aa gayaa uskaa bhaai
kahne lagaa
hahahahaha haha
ye munh aur masoor ki daal be
nikal jaa
nikal jaa
nikal jaa yahaan se chandaal ke bachche
uskaa bhaai thaa boxer bhaari
uskaa bhaai thaa boxer bhaari
usne ki hamle ki taiyaari
main to dum ko dabaakar bhaagaa
main to dum ko dabaakar bhaagaa
raste mein bolaa man kaa kaagaa
kyaa

This song was rated by Amit Kumar as one of his favourites from his father’s treasury of songs. It is just wonderful and showcases Kishore’s versatility. As a singer and as an actor.

I remember this song as a very young boy. It got imprinted in my mind though I had no clue then about movie, singer, music director etc.

This is the song I have been singing at various gatherings since last 50 years. Its gramophone record is available with Radio Ceylon (Shrilanka Broadcasting Corpn.) only. I am glad to see the video here.

This is one helluva song! Thank you Atul for sending me the link to this song which has eluded me for a couple of decades now.

This is the brilliant KK at his best.

Notice the mix of several genres of Indian music with the Marathi “tamasha” form anchoring the whole thing.

Heard it for the first time ever – here, now, today. What a miss it has been for me. Thoroughly enjoyed. Typically Kishore Kumar. We see Kishore of *paanch rupaiya bara Anna*
(which came after this) and all of his other songs in one place
And just as Santoshji has said- the “tamasha” beat is unmistakable.
Good I searched for the “adhikaar” song. Good I read Rajaji’s comments there otherwise I would have never seen this gem.
Thank you atulji, rajaji

Atul Ji, I guess there is just one more song left in the movie to be discussed..

Ek Do Teen Char Paanch by Asha Ji. Of course Arun ji or Sudhir ji need to confirm this :).
