Jaane kahaan meraa jigar gayaa ji

This song “jaane kahaan mera jigar gayaa ji” is a very well known song. One may not be aware of the movie of this song, but everyone is aware of this song.
I was among those who was aware of this song without being much aware of the movie. It was clear to me that Rafi and Geeta Dutt were the singers and that the music was archtypically O P Nayyar, but that is all I knew.
Then I found out that Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist and that this song was from Mr and Mrs 55. As the name suggests, this movie was produced in 1955.
Considering that Guru Dutt and Madhubala were the lead pair of this movie, one would expect this duet song to be picturised on them. But when I watched the picturisation, I was proved wrong. This song is picturised on Johny Walker and a pretty lady called Yasmin. It appears from googling that Yasmin was her screen name and her real name was Vinita Bhatt. Apparently, she settled into matrimony at an early age and left movies. She certainly looks so promising in this picturisation.
All these days, I was under the impression that I had already posted this song. But when I checked up, I found that I was wrong. So far I had only posted one song from this movie ( “Preetam aan milo”). Yes, it is about time I posted more songs from this movie.
Song-Jaane kahaan mera jigar gaya ji ( Mr and Mrs 55) (1955) Singers-Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Lyrics- Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-O P Nayyar
Lyrics
jaane kahaan meraa jigar gayaa ji
abhi abhi yahin thaa kidhar gayaa ji
kisi ki adaaon pe mar gayaa ji
badi badi ankhiyon se dar gayaa ji
arre jaane kahaan meraa jigar gayaa ji
abhi abhi yahin thaa kidhar gayaa ji
kisi ki adaaon pe mar gayaa ji
badi badi ankhiyon se dar gayaa ji
kahin maare dar ke choohaa to nahin ho gayaa
kahin maare dar ke choohaa to nahin ho gayaa
kone kone dekhaa na jaane kahaan kho gayaa
kone kone dekhaa na jaane kahaan kho gayaa
yahaan use laaye kaahe ko binaa kaam re
jaldi jaldi dhoondho ke hone lagi shaam re
yahaan use laaye kaahe ko binaa kaam re
jaldi jaldi dhoondho ke hone lagi shaam re
jaane kahaan meraa jigar gayaa ji
abhi abhi yahin thaa kidhar gayaa ji
kisi ki adaaon pe mar gayaa ji
badi badi ankhiyon se dar gayaa ji
koi ulfat ki nazar zaraa pher de
koi ulfat ki nazar zaraa pher de
lele do chaar aane jigar meraa pher de
lele do chaar aane jigar meraa pher de
aise nahin chori khulegi takraar se
chalo chalo thaane bataayen jamaadaar se
aise nahin chori khulegi takraar se
chalo chalo thaane bataayen jamaadaar se
jaane kahaan meraa jigar gayaa ji
abhi abhi yahin thaa kidhar gayaa ji
kisi ki adaaon pe mar gayaa ji
badi badi ankhiyon se dar gayaa ji
sachchi sachchi kah do dikhaao nahin chaal re
sachchi sachchi kah do dikhaao nahin chaal re
toone to nahin hai churaayaa meraa maal re
toone to nahin hai churaayaa meraa maal re
baaten hain nazar ki nazar se samjhaaungi
pahle pado painyaa to phir batlaaungi
baaten hain nazar ki nazar se samjhaaungi
pahle pado painyaa to phir batlaaungi
jaane kahaan meraa jigar gayaa ji
abhi abhi yahin thaa kidhar gayaa ji
kisi ki adaaon pe mar gayaa ji
badi badi ankhiyon se dar gayaa ji
arre jaane kahaan meraa jigar gayaa ji
abhi abhi yahin thaa kidhar gayaa ji

What a lovely song to watch!. As usual in Guru Dutt’s films, good picturisation.
Atul,
The song situation will be well appreciated by viewers if the scenes preceding and at the end of the song are incorporated. Please consider replacing the video link with this one :

She was a receptionist at the hotel where Johnny Walker and Guru Dutt sahab were staying. She was spotted by Guru Dutt and cast her for her smile, eyes n dimple. This is the only film she ever did…immortal song…

Thanks, Atul, for posting this song! I never imagined that this song was filmed on Johnny Walker, I somehow thought it would be on Guru Dutt and Geeta Bali. It is interesting to note that Guru Dutt did not object to giving the comedian a good song, as he did in Pyaasa too.
