“Miss Coca Cola” (1955) is a Danny Films production. It was directed by Kedar Kapoor. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Geeta Bali, Lalita Pawar, Om Prakash, Johnny Walker, Helen, Kuldip Kaur, Kamal Kapoor, Mumtaz Begum etc in it.
It is to be kept in mind that Shammi Kapoor of those days had yet to achieve stardom. This song apparently did not do well. Today even the prints of this movie are not available.
The music of this movie was quite superb. I have been gradually discovering the songs of this movie. Here is this song which I heard for the first time only just now. What a stunning song it is ! It is sung by Geeta Dutt with gusto. It is almost like the female version of the gusto that Rafi showed for Shammi Kapoor in later years. It is my guess that this song is indeed picturised on Geeta Bali who clearly played the title role of this movie.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. O P Nayyar compose this litling music. If one pays close attention, one cannot but get amazed at the calibre of musicians who may have played the musical instruments in this song.
The singing style of Geeta Dutt was obviously the singing style that O P Nayyar developed for the female lead singer of his songs. Later on, as Geeta Dutt gave way to Asha Bhonsle as O P Nayyar’s preferred female singer, Asha Bhonsle’s career took off spectacularly.
That was in the future, just as Shammi Kapoor’s stradom was in the future. This song is all about Geeta Dutt and Geeta Bali and about O P Nayyar’s music. And let us not forget the simple but effective lyrics of Majrooh Sultanpuri. I heard this song for th first time only just now, and I am totally bowled over.
Song-Sach sach bol nahin batiyaan banaa (Miss Coca cola) (1955) Singers-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri,MD-O P Nayyar
Lyrics
Sach sach bol
nahin batiyaan banaa
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
sach sach bol nahin batiyaan banaa
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
sach sach bol nahin
bano na sanwariya
main jaan gayi re
bano na sanwariya
main jaan gayi re
aaj tohe Radha pehchaan gayi re
aaj tohe Radha pehchaan gayi re
jhuki jhuki ankhiyon ko aur na jhukaao
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
sach sach bol
nahin batiyaan banaa
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
sach sach bol nahin
kaise kahoon mera tu meet nahin re
kaise kahoon mera tu meet nahin re
aise bhala chhupti hai preet kahin re
aise bhala chhupti hai preet kahin re
chup chup rahke mera dil na dukha
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
sach sach bol nahin batiyaan banaa
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
sach sach bol nahin
maan ja sanwariyaa
na tod mera dil
maan ja sanwariyaa
na tod mera dil
jhoom zara nainon se nain gaye mil
jhoom zara nainon se nain gaye mil
chham chham naachoongi tu murli bajaa
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
Sach sach bol nahin batiyaan banaa
batiyaan banaa ke mora jiya na jalaa
sach sach bol nahin batiyaan banaa

MISS COCA COLA-1955,a Danny film release was directed by Kedar Kapoor.Though the cast and the Director of this film were very strong, still the story-s/p and Dialogues by Bekal Amritsari were so weak that even OP’s music could not save it from fading prematurely.
Actually,3/4 ths of the film footage was used to describe the misfortunes befalling on the Heroine and the Hero meets the Heroine after the Interval only.
Ganga’s(Geeta Bali) father can not pay 1001 rs. to the Groom in her marriage. To see the marriage thru, he goes and steals the money, but Police come to the marriage venue and arrest him for Murder and Theft.
Despite efforts of the Lawyer,he is convicted and sentenced to death.
Ganga does labour work, sister Madhe washes others’ utensils and brother Pappoo does odd jobs.Pappoo is knocked down under the car of Kamal(Shammi Kapoor) owner of Cafe Glass. He helps the sisters.Madhu is sent to Poona and Ganga becomes dancer Miss Coca Cola in the Cafe Glass.Kamal falls in her love. Together they track the real murderer and get Ganga’s father released etc etc.
A totally unbelieveable story with no punches, nothing special and even OP’s music lackluster, the film met its nemesis in a short time.
