“Jailor” (1958) was a Minerva movietone movie. it was directed by Sohrab Modi. The star cast included Sohrab Modi, Geeta Bali, Kamini Kaushal,Pratima Devi, Abhi Bhattacharya, Nana Palsikar, Daisy Irani, Raj Kumar, E. Tarapore etc.
I have discussed one song from this movie in the past which is perhaps the only well known song from this movie namely Ham pyaar me jalne waalon ko chain kahaan.
But it does not mean that the movie does not have other songs in it. The movie had other songs too which have been forgotten with the passage of time.
Here is a bhajan from this movie. It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. The song is picturised on Geeta Bali and Abhi Bhattacharya.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Mrs Bhatt and that is how I became aware of this song.

It is a lovely bhajan. In fact, the only saving grace of this movie, according to me, were the songs + Geeta Bali. The storyline was pretty shocking, esp the character of Sohrab Modi. I’ve enjoyed most Sohrab Modi movies but this one disappointed me.

Just like you, I heard this song only last year when I was looking for Madan Mohan’s rare gems. I loved the song and the music and acting/expressions of Geeta Bali and Abhi Bhattacharya. Asha and Rafi has justified the song by matching their voices with the feelings of both the blind characters. Thanks for posting.

What a beautiful song, sung so well by Rafi and Asha! And yes, the expressions on Geeta Bali’s face as well as on Abhi Bhattacharya’s make this a worthwhile find. I remember hearing this song, once upon a time, but I don’t remember hearing anything at all about the movie, so it must have been as bad as Raja and memsaab seem to have found it. What a pity!

“Bas Ek Sazaa hi to hai Zindagi” picturised on a group
of prisoners in the movie. Very nice song from MM & MK.
