Aafat mein phansa hoon main

on:“Shah Behram” (1955) is a movie about which nothing was known on internet till I discussed a song from this movie a few months ago. In response to that post, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh provided us all the information that we may ever need about this movie.
Here is what he has to say about this movie:-
SHAH BEHRAM(1955) was a Baharistan production, produced by Mulkaraj Bhakri, directed by Nanubhai Vakil and the MD was Hansraj Behl, the lyrics were by Asad Bhopali and Bedam Varsi.
The cast was Mahipal chand Bhandari,Asha Mathur(from 1951 to1958, she acted in 20 films, including Mayurpankh, Alif Laila, Amanat, Bilwamangal, Hamari Duniya, Taqdeer etc. Then she got married and disappeared.), Sunder, Tiwari, Hiralal etc.It was a fantasy a la Arabian style. Kohkaf was a paradise like kingdom where there was only happiness and joy. One day its king is turned into a statue suddenly due to a curse and the courtiers start searching for another king. Dev Safed suggests Shah Behram’s name but Quamus opposes the calling of Shah Behram,a mortal king of Faris. However Shah is called as a guest of angel Gandok. Shah comes but falls in love with HusnaBanu, daughter of Quamus. Meanwhile the evil Vazir in Faris usurps the throne and arrests the queen.
The rest of the film is about how Shah Behram redeems this situation, regain his empire and how the statue is back to the King of Kohkaf.
There was Shah Behram also in 1935.
This movie has some wonderful songs in it that have been forgotten with time. Heree is a lovely song from this movie. It is sung by Talat Mehmood.I have no idea about the lyricist of the song. Provisionally I have assumed the lyricist to be Asad Bhopali. Hansraj Bahl is the music director.
The lyrics are in hardcore Urdu and muchh of it has gone over my head. The lyrics are full of inaccuracies and I request our knowledgeable readers to help fill in the blanks/ point out the correct words in the lyrics.

Song-Aafat mein phansa hoon main (Shah Behram)(1955) Singer-Talat Mehmood, Lyrics-Asad Bhopali, MD-Hansraj Bahl
Lyrics
shaah shaahi kar gaye
bedard adayi(?) kar gaye
ishq ka koochha hai ismein
naam kyaa badnaam kyaa
aafat mein phansa hoon
dil us but se lagaa kar
imaan ganwaa kar
dushman se bhi kehta hoon mere
apne duaa kar
jab yaad e khuda kar
jab yaad e khuda kar
toone to mujhe phoonk diyaa
aaa aaa aaa
soze muhabbat
ae aatish e furqat
ae aatish e furqat
badhti hi gayi
jitna rakha tujhko dabaa kar
seene mein chhupaa kar
seene mein chhupaa kar
aafat mein phansa hoon
dil us but se lagaa kar
imaan ganwaa kar
taqdeer to dekho
jinhe mehboob banaayaa
dil jinse lagaaya
dil jinse lagaaya
wo chalte huye
jaan ko ik rog lagaa kar
deewaana bana kar
deewaana bana kar
aafat mein phansa hoon
dil us but se lagaa kar
imaan ganwaa kar
behasr ka din bhi hai
ka din hai
qayaamat hi wafa hai
ab dekhta kya hai
chilman ko hataa
waadaa ye deedaar e wafa kar
deedaar dikha kar
deedaar dikha kar

shaah shaahi kar gaye
‘be-zar zadayi’ kar gaye
ishq ka koochha hai ismein
naam kyaa badnaam kyaa
aafat mein phansa hoon
dil us but se lagaa kar
imaan ganwaa kar
dushman se bhi kehta hoon mere
‘haqq mein’ duaa kar
jab yaad e khuda kar
‘yeh hashr’ ka din bhi hai qayaamat bhi wafaa
aye ab dekhta kya hai chilman ko hataa
waadaa -e- deedaar-e- wafaa kar
deedaar dikha kar

Atul ji,
The lyricist for the above song is BEDAAM WAARSI,who also wrote few songs, along with Asad Bhopali,in this film. This is as per HFGK.

Thanks for this information. I was suspecting that the information contained in most sites (where Asad Bhopali was described as the lyricist for all songs of this movie) was not correct.

Arun ji
With respects, a slight correction in name. It is ‘Bedam Waarsi’ and not ‘Bedaam Waarsi’. (The meaning of the name is different in the two cases.)

Sudhir ji,
Thanks for the correction.
I knew it was Bedam, but somehow it was written wrong.I realise, how, even a single alphabet can make difference in the meaning;perticularly for words and names from languages other than English.
