“Abdullah” (1980) was a movie that received quite a bit of publicity during its making, but people lost interest once it was released. I do not know why. This movie never came to my town, which is normally the facte of B grade movies and not a movie which was produced and directed by an A grade Producer like err Sanjay Khan :).
Starcast of this movie included Sanjay Khan, Zeenat Aman, Raj Kapoor, Vijay Anand, Farida Jalal, Danny Danzogpa, Mehmood, Sanjeev Kumar, Parveen Babi, Bob Christo, Kadar Khan, Leela Mishra, Sujit Kumar, Dheeraj kumar, Jezebel, Nazir Hussain, Mukri, Gufi Paintal, Praveen Paul, Om Prakash, Helen, Madan Puri etc.
Now, more than three decades later (how time has flown), the only thing that one recalls of this movie is perhaps this song under discussion. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Helen, who performs her dance not in a club but in a middle east medieval kind of setting, where males are seated in one side and females on another side under purdah, which is transparant purdah- a Hindi movie poetic license, which has been given a very appropriate name of Purdah lite by Memsaab.Apart from Helen, the picturisation also shows Zeenat Aman, Vijay Anand, Sanjay Khan, Sujit Kumar etc.
