Na bhanwra na koi gul

Posted on: April 14, 2012

“Aarti” (1962) was one of the first (if not the first) movie of Rajshree Productions. It was directed by Phani Majumdar. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, Pradeep Kumar, Shashikala, Peace Kanwal, Jagirdar, Rajendranath, Vijaya Choudhry, Surekha, Niranjan Sharma, Ramesh Deo, Chandrima Bhaduri, Keshto Mukherjee etc in it. That sounds like quite an impressive starcast, though quite a few of them were newcomers at that time.

This movie is well known for its fantastic songs that were mostly picturised on Meena Kumari and Pradeep Kumar. I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie.

Here is a lesser known song from this movie. This song is a rail song . Several boys and girls are apparently going on / coming from a picnic. Rajendranath lip syncing in Rafi’s voice is seen making dvances on a saheli of Meena Kumari. The lady responds favourably to Rajendranath’s advances and begins to lip sync in Asha Bhonsle’ voice. I am unable to identify this lady and I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

This song, which I heard /saw for the first time just a few hours ago, is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Music is composed by Roshan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-Naa bhanwra naa koi gul (Aarti)(1962) Singers-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Roshan
Chorus

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

naa bhanwra naa koi gul
akela hooun main tera bulbul
hai ik tanhaaee
meri jaan mere jahaan mein aa
mere jahaan mein rang o boo
kahin par hansi kahin aansoo
ye hi bataa saudaayee
main ye zindagi bhula doon kya

ulfat ki hai yahaan boo baas
man mein lagi, labon par pyaas

man mein lagi, labon par pyaas
chaandi sona ho na ho
dil hai apne paas

meri duniya aur haseen hai
yahaan danga shor nahi hai
hai ek tanhaayee
meri jaan mere jahaan mein aa
naa bhanwra naa koi gul
akela hoon main tera bul-bul
hai ek tanhaayee
meri jaan mere jahaan mein aa

tera jahaan hai jis ka naam
gham ki subah dukhon ki shaam
ho no no no
maamooli si baat pe
ladna iska kaam
phir bhi ye sab hain apne
mil jhul kar dekhen sapne
ye hi bataa saudaayee
main ye zindagi bhula doon kya
mere jahaan mein rang-o-boo
kahin per hansee kahin aansoo
ye hi bataa saudaayee
main ye zindagi bhula doon kya

naa bhanwra naa koi gul
akela hoon main tera bul-bul
hai ek tanhaayee
meri jaan mere jahaan mein aa

Atul ji,
AARTI-1962 was actually the very FIRST film of Rajashri productions. They have so far produced 54 films, the last being,Love u-mr.Kalakaar.
Tarachand Barjatya, born on 10-5-1914 in Rajasthan completed his graduation in Calcutta. In those days he was impressed with the film industry and was toying with the idea of producing films.Better sense prevailed and he established Rajashri Pictures(P) Ltd on the auspicious day of 15th August 1947.First he entered the distribution business and was lucky to distribute the biggest hit of those days,Chandralekha as his first film.In 1962,he established Rajashri Productions and produced AARTI.
Rajashri’s films always guaranteed clean entertainment.Tarachand died on 21-9-92.
AARTI-62 was a story of a typical indian woman.Whatever the education indian woman will always uphold the culture and tradions devotedly.Aarti(MeenaKumari) is a doctor, who is devoted to her profession and believes that Doctors must serve selflessly. This opinion is exactly opposite to Dr.Prakash(Ashok Kumar),a surgeon and fiance of Aart. Not digesting his philosophy,Aarti marries Deepak(Pradeep Kumar),who has a large family.Aarti tries very hard and brings happiness to the family of Deepak.Prakash is upset and looking for a discord in her married life.he manages things in such a way that Deepak, throws Aarti out of his house. She now stays with her father.Deepak meets with an accident and he needs a special operation which only Dr.Prakash can do.Aarti goes to Prakash to request him.He takes advantage of the situation and puts a condition that Aarti should surrender to him.To save Deepak, she agrees and Deepak is successfully operated. Now Prakash wants his fees.
The climax showshow she is able to change the ways and thinking of Dr.Prakash and how she wins back her family successfully.
