Tera mujhse hai pahle ka naata koyi

Posted on: September 26, 2009

“Aa gale lag jaa” (1973) was a run of the mill movie, but it caught public imagination because of this particular song. This song had two versions. The grown up version was sung by Kishore Kumar and it was picturised on Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore as a “nature song” -as it was picturised on hills. The other version of the song was a party song and it had a kid singing in addition to Kishore Kumar. Kishore Kumar once again sings for Shashi Kapoor whereas the kid Sushma Shreshtha sang for Master Tito.

Sushma Shreshtha had also sung the song of “Andaz” where she sang “papa ko mummy se mummy ko papa se pyaar hai”. After 1961, where a kid had sung for a kid for the first time in a BOllywood song ( “Naani teri morni ko mor le gaye”), Sushma Shreshtha became the second child singer of note after Ranu Mukherji. Sushma Shreshtha, who was 13 years of age at that time, soon vanished from the playback scene. She re apperaed again after neraly two decades, this time as a grown up and with a different name. This time she swas known as Purnima. She sang a few songs and they she was lost to oblivion once more.

This song, “Tera mujhse hai pahle ka naata koi” was written by Sahir Ludhianvi and R D Burman composed the lovely music. S D Burman had not worked with Sahir Ludhianvi again after “Pyaasa”, and so R D Burman working with Sahir for the first time in this movie must have been a coup of sorts. The reason wht S D Burman had stopped working with Sahir is a long story which I will discuss later.

Coming to this song itself, this was a song that had the ability to pluck the heart strings of the audience and move them, and that ensured that this song went on to become a much loved song.

hi…

i think the lyrics whihc i have mentioned too form part of the grown up version:

Tu bhi rahi mere liye,
main bhi raha tere liye,
pehle bhi main tujhe baahon mein le ke
ghooma kiya and jhooma kiya…
jaane tu ya jaane na…..

In complete song

thank you so much for mentioning about the wonderful kid singer, very few people would be knowing.

video link for Part-I is not working , here is one;
