“Baaghi” (1964) was a Mukul Movies production. It was directed by Ram Dayal. The movie had Pradeep Kumar, Leela Naidu, Helen, Mumtaz, Jeevan, Veena, Ulhas, Naaz, Vijaya Choudhry, Jagdeep etc in it.
Leela Naidu was the leading lady of this movie. Leela Naidu, was Miss India 1954 and she was featured as among the ten most beautiful women in the world by the Vogue magazine. She continued to make this and other similar lists of the most beautiful women for many years thereafter as well.
Leela Naidu had extremely impressive family credentials. He father was a Nuclear physicist who worked under Madame Curie. It was there that he married Marthe, a Swiss French lady who was an Indologist and a journalist. Leela Naidu was their sole surviving issue. Famous Indian leader Sarojini Naidu was Leela Naidu’s aunt.
Leela Naidu, after winning her beauty contest was signed up in a few Hindi movies. She acted in a few movies and later she acted in a few Western movies as well.
Today (28 July) is her death anniversary. She died on 28 july 2009 at the age of 69.
On this occasion, here is a song from “Baaghi” (1964). This song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Pradeep Kumar and Leela Naidu. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.
This lesser known song from this obscure movie must be regarded as a forgotten gem. What a superbly written sung and composed masterpiece this song is ! I heard this song for the first time only just now, and I was highly impressed.
