Shiqaayat kyaa karoon dono taraf gham ka fasaana hai

I am told that a section of movie watchers in the past were addicted to melancholism the same way some people are addicted to alcoholism. They would watch sad melancholic movies and come out of the movie hall immensely satisfied after shedding bucketful of tears during their stay in the movie hall.
Among other ingredients, such movies tended to have a “Bhartiya Nari” character who used to undergo lots of suffering. And it made her a fit candidate to lip sync melancholic songs.
Among all the Bhartiya Naaris that I have seen in Hindi movies, Nimmi occupied a pride of place. 🙂 Whenever I notice that a song is picturised on Nimmi, I am sure that I am going to witness a highly satisfying melancholic performance that will get five hardkerchief rating in the Richter scale of melancholism.
Here is just that kind of a song from “Kundan” (1955). this song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Nimmi. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.
I am sure that a few people will find me weird because every time I see a Nimmi song, I break into a smile. 🙂 And this song is no exception. 🙂
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath.
Song-Shikaayat kyaa karoon dono taraf gham ka fasaana hai (Kundan)(1955) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ghulam Mohammad
Lyrics(Provided by Sadanand Kamath)
shikaayat kyaa karoon
dono taraf gham kaa fasaanaa hai
mere aage mohabbat hai
tere aage zamaanaa hai
shikaayat kyaa karoon
dono taraf gham kaa fasaanaa hai
o o o
o o o o
pukaaraa hai tujhe manzil ne
lekin main kahaan jaaun
pukaaraa hai tujhe manzil ne
lekin main kahaan jaaun
bichhad kar teri duniyaa se
kahaan meraa thikaanaa hai
shikaayat kyaa karoon
dono taraf gham kaa fasaanaa hai
o o o
o o o o
mubaarak ho tujhe jaan-e-wafaa
majbooyaan teri
mubaarak ho tujhe jaan-e-wafaa
majbooriyan teri
mujhe to zindagi bhar pyaar kaa
waadaa nibhaanaa hai
shikaayat kyaa karoon
dono taraf gham ka fasaanaa hai
mere aage mohaabat hai
tere aage zamaanaa hai
shikaayat kyaa karoon
dono taraf gham kaa fasaanaa hai

I have seen it so often on Hathway(service provider) on the Cable TV named simply B&W Channel No 124 which is the same all over India. It 24×7 5-6 B&W movies daily and intermediate B&W songs. You may have to change your existing Tata Sky/Disha etc to Hathway.

‘Kundan’ was based on Victor Hugo’s ‘Les Miserables’. When I saw ‘Kundan’, I was just six years old and don’t remember a thing!
