“Chaand” (1959) movie was produced by Kuldip Sehgal, who had other movies like Dost-54, Panchayat-58, Shama-61 and few more to his credit. The movie was written and directed by Lekhraj Bhakri. These two also worked together in movies like Sahara-58, Panchayat-58, Shama-61, Ma Beta-62. (IMDb info- please correct if wrong).
Main leads in this movie are Meena Kumari, Balraj Sahni, Pandari Bai and Manoj Kumar supported by Sajjan, Sunder, Leela Mishra, Achla Sachdev, Indra Bansal, Kuldip Kaur, Daisy Irani, Helen etc. All songs of this movie are composed by Hemant Kumar.
The video of this movie on YT gives credit to Shailendra as a lyricist of all songs whereas various sites on internet mention Akhtar Lakhnavi as the writer of this particular song with credit given to Shailendra as the lyricist of remaining songs. I would request someone to clarify this confusion. Atulji already had posted three songs of this movie and here is the fourth song, a qawwaali.
While listening to this song, like me, you also will feel that it sounds similar to “Hamen to loot liya milke husn waalon ne”… from the movie “Al Hilaal” (1958) composed by Bulo C Rani and written by Shewan Rizvi. I again would request any knowledgeable person to share trivia, if any, regarding connection of these two songs. The song under discussion is picturized on Sunder who is disguised as a female and two “real” female singers in the picture are Vijaya Chowdhary and Baby Naaz. The male singer is Rangnath Jadhav and two female singers are unknown to me. (My guess is Sudha Malhotra and Shamshad Begum).
The sound in Audio clip is better than in Video clip. The video quality is not good, but is fun to watch Sunder as a leading Qawwaali singer with his team. So, now relax and have fun watching this song. 🙂

Are u referring to “dil tod ke jaana hai to phir kal hi chale jaaiyyo ” from ” hamari yaad aayegi ‘ posted yesterday ? . The song is cute and Tanuja is cuter.
Even I remember you while writing the posts and lyrics. So please thoda si maharbaani ham pe bhi kar len 🙂 .

and it says this song as the ‘parody’ song of “Humen To Loot Liya”(“Al Hilal”, 1958), composed by Bulo C. Rani” !!

Atul ji, Khyati ji,
As I was checking some stats today, I noticed that the main singer in this qawwaali is Rangnath Jadhav. I remembered that another qawwaali, “Marna Bhi Mohabbat Mein Kisi Kaam Na Aaya” from ‘Azaad'(1955) has got the main singer listed as Raghunath Jadhav. I then checked with Harmandir ji and Harish ji. Based on their consultation, the singer in both these qawwaalis is the same and the name should be Raghunath Jadhav in both. It appears that the name on the physical record of this qawwaali has a misprint, which was propagated into HFGK also.
Please make the correction.

If you check the video of this movie at 0:00:47, only Shailendra’s name is mentioned as a lyricist. Why that? AL has penned only this song in the movie, but at least his name should have been included in the title. Any idea?
