“Gateway of India” (1957) was a movie starring Johny Walker, Madhubala, Bhagwan etc. This suspense movie had eight songs in it. As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
When I checked up, I realised that the last time a song from this movie was discussed was three years back !
Here is the sixth song from “Gateway of India” (1957). It is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Madhubala. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Song-Na hanso hum pe zamaana ke hain thukraaye huye (Gateway of India)(1957) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan
Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
na hanso ham pe
zamaane ke hain thukraaye huye
darbadar phirte hain taqdeer ke behkaaye huye
na hanso ham pe
zamaane ke hain thukraaye huye
kya bataayen tumhe
kal hum bhi chaman waale thhe ae
kya bataayen tumhe
kal hum bhi chaman waale thhe ae
ye na poochho ke hain veeraane mein kyun aaye huye
na hanso ham pe
zamaane ke hain thukraaye huye
baat kal ki hai ki phoolon ko masal dete thhe ae
baat kal ki hai ki phoolon ko masal dete thhe ae
aaj kaanton ko bhi seene se hain liptaaye huye
na hanso ham pe
zamaane ke hain thukraaye huye
aisi gardish mein na daale kabhi kismat tumko o
aisi gardish mein na daale kabhi kismat tumko o
aap ke saamne jis haal mein hain aaye huye
na hanso ham pe
zamaane ke hain thukraaye huye
ek din phir wohi pehli si bahaaren hongin
ek din phir wohi pehli si bahaaren hongin
isi umeed pe hum dil ko hain behlaaye huye
na hanso ham pe
zamaane ke hain thukraaye huye
darbadar phirte hain taqdeer ke behkaaye huye

This was another flop from Om Prakash. He was very unlucky in whatever he produced. However strangely his forays in others film were mostly hits. What God wanted to prove!!!.

If ‘Gateway of India’ flopped, it was because of the strange taste of the filmgoers of that time. Nitinji, if you get a chance watch this movie. You will agree with me! 🙂

Prakashbhai,
Aap itne achhe kyun hai? Kabhi kabhi “privacy ko disturb karna bhi padta hai”, aur aap ka to haq hai.
Everything is fine now. I did email you on June 19th.

‘Gateway of India’ also starred, besides Johnny Walker and Bhagwan, Pradeep Kumar, Bharat Bhooshan and Mehmood too. For its time, it was quite a well made taut thriller. The story spans across just one night! If I remember, except Bharat Bhooshan, all the other males are villains! There was a beautiful Lata solo, “Sapne me sajan se do baaten, ek yaad rahi ek bhool gaye…”. For some starnge reason, this song was axed from the movie! Madhubala sparkled in the role of an heiress running from the clutches of assorted villains.

Sir, any information why that beautiful Lata solo was not inlcuded in the film?
May be Deshmukh Sir can provide some info on this.

Sorry, I have no idea. What is baffling is that some not-so-good songs were retained! Must have been the whims and fancies of the distributor!

As far as I know, this nice song was NOT removed from the film ever.
Many times the VCDs showing the films, privately or on TV channels do remove songs to adjust their lengths and it is felt that the song is removed from the films.
I have seen hundreds of such cases. Many must have experienced this too.
