“Angaarey” (1954) was an Akashdeep Productions movie. It was directed by K B Lal. The movie had Nasir Khan, Nargis, Vanmala, Pran, Paro, Ratan Kumar, K. N. Singh, Jagirdar, Nanda, Jeevan, Sunalini Devi, Jawahar Kaul etc in it.
Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
Here is a melancholic song from the movie. It is sung by Lata. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman. The song is lip synced by Nargis. From the lyrics of the song, it would seem that she leaves her family to cast her lot with Nasir Khan only to get ditched by him. A very poignant situation indeed.

Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
Mere khevanhaar
kyun mohe
chhod chale
majhdhaar
mere khevanhaar
ummeed ki jholi mein aen
kyun bhar diye angaarey
bhalaa kyun bhar diye
ummeed ki jholi mein aen
kyun bhar diye angaarey
bhalaa kyun bhar diye
munh mod ke duniyaa se
thhukraake zamaane ko o
aaye thhe muhabbat ki ee
taqdeer banaane ko
ummeed ki jholi mein ae
kyun bhar diye angaarey
bhalaa kyun bhar diye
majboor thhe pehle hi,
naashaad thhe pehle hi ee
teri hi kasam hum to
barbaad thhe pehle hi
ummeed ki jholi mein aen
kyun bhar diye angaarey
bhalaa kyun bhar diye
mar mar ke jiye ab tak
hum tere sahaare par
maaloom na thhaa kashti ee
doobegi kinaare par
ummeed ki jholi mein aen
kyun bhar diye angaarey
bhalaa kyun bhar diye
O o o
o o o
O o
O o
o o
o o o
o o o

Thanks Atul-ji for the melodious and ‘melancholic’ song. Such songs (and not ‘lal lal gaal’ types) touch the hearts of sensitive persons and I appreciate and adore them very much.
(Absolutely my personal opinion – not intended to offend anybody)
