The Blog Hits the 5 Million Mark

In between the many other events and anniversaries that we keep track of, there are some other significant developments that continue to inch along quite unobtrusively. And the corresponding milestones continue to pass at their own pace. Some of the blog regulars keep a watch and do send messages and comments. But since these are not any fixed dates or known numbers that we know are reaching specific way stops, they appear when they do.
One such very significant milestone was breached yesterday. Quite a red letter day for the blog, as the counter that keeps track of number of visits to the blog, softly clicked passed the 5 million mark, thus putting another major achievement under the belt. Going by internet standards, this is a very fantastic accomplishment. I call it fantastic, because this blog is a very specialized genre. It is not a social networking site, nor is it a news and entertainment portal. This blog addresses a group of people who are fans of Hindi film music.
Some stats – Atul ji has been at it continuously without break, a little over five years and three months. We broke through the 8900th mark for the number of songs posted, just the day before. And yesterday, the visitor counter slowly rolled over the five millionth visitor count. A simple calculation shows that this number averaged out over the period of time considered, is more than 2500 visits per day. That is a ‘wow’ on the internet.
And a reason, oh yes, another one, to celebrate on the blog.
As I was trying to look for a suitable song for this post, my mind zeroed in on this song from the 1971 film by V Shantaram. A suitable song that talks about the enthusiasm for life. It talks about a heart that sings with pleasure, it talks about song and music, and it talks about music and singing together.
The film ‘Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli’ fron 1971. Music is by Laxmikant Pyaarelal and the songs are written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. This song is sung by Mukesh, with Lata ji’s voice joining near the close of the song. Although of comparatively recent vintage, I was surprised to note that neither the video or the audio of this song is available as yet, on the internet.
A hearty congratulations to Atul ji, and all our friends who are co travelers on this merry musical bandwagon. It is the effort and support of all of us put together, that continues to take us across newer destinations and newer milestones. Kudos to all.

Pachaas Lakh Baar Congratulations!!! This without any publicity; just by mouth to mouth publicity. By spreading the good word, which has spreaded wide and far, crossing all the boundaries, seven seas and many oceans. It only means that there are eons of fans out there for the music from the golden era. May be we see the doubling effect next year. Thanks all around.
