“Paisa” was originally a drama that was performed by Prithvi Theatres with great success. Encouraged by the success, it was made into a movie of the same name.
“Paisa”(1957) was produced and directed by Ptithviraj Kapoor for Prthvi Theatres, Bombay. The movie had Prithviraj Kapoor, Azra Mumtaz, Pushpa, Ravindra Kapoor, Vishwa Mehra, Shriram, Sudesh Kumar, Kuldeep, Zohra Sahgal, Sati devi, Mansaram, Suresh, Armelene, Rani Azad, Indumati, Vijaybal, Vishi Kapoor, Subhash, sundar, Bhagwati Prsad, Hari Kapoor, Kanhaiya Lal, H N Singh, Shashiraj etc in it.
The movie had five songs in it. One song from the movie has been covered in the blog long ago.
Here is the second song from “Paisa”(1957) to appear in the blog. This song is a bhajan which is sung by Geeta Dutt. Blind Poet cum saint Surdas (1478-1573), who lived some four centuries ago is credited with the lyrics. Music is composed by Ram Ganguly.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics to my satisfaction, especially in the last stanza. I request our readers with keener ears as well as understanding of the kind of words used in the lyrics to helf fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable.

daara sut dhan moh liye hai
sudh-budh sab bisri ee ee
daara sut dhan moh liye hai

ab meri naav bhari
prabhu ji
ab meri naav bhari

Atul ji,
An interesting fact of this film is that this was actually the adaptation of Prithwi Theatre’s popular stage drama ”Paisa”. In other words the story was slightly amended to suit the screenplay of a film. Although the Theatre drama was very popular, the film was a resounding Flop !
