This occasion is a recurring occasion for the blog and comes like clockwork. It is just that the timing of the clock is variable. 🙂 It typically used to come twice in a month in the past and now a days it comes after every two months or so.
I am talking about the century post of the blog.
This article marks the 15800th writeup for the blog. This century came up in “only” 40 days which appears quite “fast” compared to recent centuries that took 53 and 45 days. It is like how B S Chandrashekhar used to be the fastest bowler in Indian cricket team during 1960s and 1970s, when he was in the team as a spinner. 🙂
In the past, choosing the century song used to be an elaborate affair. The song was often identified well in advance. There are occasions when such songs were identified several months in advance. Their writeups used to be planned well in advance as well. There was much anticipation and expectation in the air. 🙂
Nowadays, it is different. These occasions have seemingly become passe. They come and go and one barely takes notice of them. They have virtually become just another post.
It is true that the century post nowadays are finalised at the eleventh hour and the writeup is “written” almost “extempore”- so to say.
But one thing still remains same, and that is the song itself. the song that features in the century writeup is invariably a special song, so what if it often gets chosen at the last moment.
Take the song under discussion, for instance. This song is as rare as they come. The only thing that is known about this movie is that it is from the 1940s. That means it could be from 1941 or even from 1950. This movie is called “Fifty Fifty”. Unlike the famous movie of 1956 of the same name, this movie was apparently unreleased. The movie, according to HFGK part 2 was a Hind Productions movie. It had more than four songs, but HFGK has details only for four songs.
PS-Mr Har Mandir Singh “Hamraaz”, the man behind HFGK commented on this post and informed that this record was issued in 1950. So this song is from 1950. So, records of this movie called “Fifty Fifty” were released in fifty. 🙂
There is no information about the director or the artists.
Out of the four songs whose details are available, one song has caught my fancy. It has fun mukhda that goes like “Hamaare dil ke station pe bhi baabu kabhi aana”. 🙂
I have chosen this song to be the 15800th song writeup in the blog. This song is sung by Indurani and Sheikh. Anjum Rahmani is the lyricist. Music is composed by K Kumar.
Going by the trends of those days, the song could well have been picturised on the singing duo themselves.
The lyrics of the song are quite fun, right up my alley as could be expected, as they deal with terms associated with railways. 🙂
I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this obscure movie, and also on the artists figuring in the song. Personally I have no idea about the lyricist and the music director. The music director is making his debut in the blog with this song. The movie itself is also making its debut in the blog with this song.
With this rare song, the blog now has 15800 song posts. So the magic figure of 16000 appears within striking distance. Hopefully we will reach there in less than 100 days from now.
I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their continued support, patronage and encouragement. Let us hope that this musical bandwagon keeps rolling on and on for as long as possible, seeing that we still have lots and lots of music gems yet to be covered and discovered.
Song-Hamaare dil ke station pe (Fifty Fifty)(1950) Singers-Indurani, Sheikh, Lyrics-Anjum Rahmani, MD-K Kumar
Lyrics
Hamaare dil ke station pe
Hamaare dil ke station pe bhi baabu kabhi aana
chhoote jab pyaar ki gaadi
to tum jhandi hila jaana
zara seetee baja jaana baabu saab
hamaare dil ke station pe
hamaare dil ke station pe bai bai saab kabhi aana
chhoote jab pyaar ki gaadi
to tum jhandi hila jaana
zara seetee baja jaana bee saab
ae ae ae ae
meri miss Frontier r r
arre chali ho tum kahaan farr farr
arre na ho jaaye kahin takkar
ke rasta hai nahin behtar
isi junction pe ruk jaana
zara jhandi hila jaana
zara seetee baja jaana bee saab
Hamaare dil ke station pe
Hamaare dil ke station pe bhi baabu kabhi aana
chhoote jab pyaar ki gaadi
tum jhandi hila jaana
zara seetee baja jaana baabu saab
aa aa aa aa aa
muhabbat ka engine hai
ke jo badhhta hi jaataa hai ae ae ae
sambhaale kitna hi baabu
magar takraa hi jaata hai
nahin aata hai bach jaana
zara seetee baja jaana
zara jhandi hila jaana
jhandi hila jaana baabu saab
hamaare dil ke station pe
hamaare dil ke station pe beebee saab kabhi aana
chhoote jab pyaar ki gaadi
to tum jhandi hila jaana
zara seetee baja jaana bai saab

Why the film is tagged for the year 1944 ? It remained incomplete but two 78 rpm shellac discs of its songs were released bearing coupling no. N 36358 and N 36359. This series carried songs of Hindi films in 1950. Closest coupling numbers found at a glance is allotted to the discs of HAMARA GHAR/1950 bearing numbers : N 36360 to N 36363.
