Blog Day :

6257 Post No. : 19355

This post is my 100th on Atul Song A Day blog created by Atul Ji and well supported by a bunch of film & music enthusiasts.

I started this journey on 20/01/2014, with Rafi Saab song “Chup chup chup kyun baithhi ho ” from Hamrahi 1974.

Since then lot has happened in terms of my family structure (going from being parents to two boys – to becoming grandparents to two cute and chubby kids – a boy, Arjun and a girl, Takshavi), to downsizing our house (from a 5 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house – because the children moved out in 2016 & 17), to changes in my physical structure, from being a full bodied person to becoming an amputee (1. having lost all my toes on my left foot).

On my health front, I also got diagnosed with and treated such from Breast Cancer.

However, I have always maintained a never say die attitude. Full marks to my wife, Sharwari, who has stood behind me as a rock, making it possible for both of us to face all these life challenges.

Next month we are going on a holiday to Europe, which we both have been looking forward to for a long time.

Coming to my 100th post, I wanted it to be an iconic song by the legend – Lata Mangeshkar – whom I consider as an incarnation of Mata Saraswati. So I began searching the blog for songs not yet posted and which are sung by LM and somewhat iconic. Atul and other contributors will agree with me about how difficult is the task to search songs not yet posted on the blog!!

But last month my search was successful and I zeroed in on today’s song, which is an iconic haunting song sung by Lata Mangeshkar. “Tere Bina Jiya Na Laage” is from Pardey Ke Peechey 1971. It is written by Rajendra Krishna and composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

“Parde Ke Peechhe”(1971) was produced by M C Ramamurthy and directed by K Shankar for EM CEE R Films, Madras. The movie had Vinod Mehra, Yogita Bali, Raj Mehra, Padma Khanna, Jagdeep, Pran, Bindu, Tarun Bose, Prem Kumar, Siddhu, Suresh, Upendra Trivedi, Justin, Varalakshmi, Mamta Rao etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past. This is the third song to be posted on the blog.

The story according to IMDB is on how by the misuse of ancient beliefs and customs, cheats and anti-national, international crooks cheat gullible un-educated people. It starts with the police raiding an ancient haunted palace which is looked after by a gardener and his daughter Tara (Yogita Bali). Vinod Mehra is trying to unearth the purpose behind making the house haunted, as he suspects that it is being used for anti national activities. Bindu plays an investigating officer and this theme song sung by the ghost rings a bell on criminal activities being perpetrated in the name of religion and marriages.

The climax is a dramatic unmasking of the true culprit “parde ke peechey” (behind the curtain), tying together all the misleading threads. Justice is finally served, and the hidden truth emerges.

I had read somewhere that this song was lip synced by an unknown actress from South India, Varalakshmi. I request our in house specialist – Prakashchandra Ji to either confirm this or give us the correct name of the artist, if he knows it.

With the hope that you have enjoyed my rare song posts in the past, I now present to you this gem!!

Prakashchandra Ji has confirmed to me that the actress who lip synced the song is indeed Varalakshmi, from South India.
