Today’s song is from the movie ‘Shareef Daaku-1960’. This movie is making its debut on the blog today. It seems to be an obscure movie of its time.
One big advantage of the internet era is that sharing of resources has become easy. “Shareef Daaku-1960” was a stunt movie that was directed by Sadar Joshi for ‘Union Movies, Bombay’. J.R. Pathare and Sadar Joshi were the producers of this movie and this movie was passed by the Censor Board on 02.11.960. The cast of this movie had Nazi, Samar Roy, Mirajkar, Vishv Mehra, Prafullata, Manohar Gir, Ram Rasila, Heera Sawant, Habib, Sattar, Sadhna, Shakila Bano Bhopali and others.
As per information available in Geet Kosh Vol-III (1951-1960) this movie ‘Shareef Daaku’ has five songs written by Shewan Rizvi. Geet Kosh mentions the names of Hafeez Khan and Arjun Hingorani as the composers for this movie. However the names of singers and composers for individual songs is not mentioned in this list, except for the song being discussed. The singers’ names for this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi, Ismail Azad Qawwaal, and Shakila Bano Bhopali. Though Geet Kosh mention the names of both Hafeez Khan and Arjun Hingorani as composers, but the audio link of this song gives credit for the composition to Hafeez Khan only.
As mentioned above it is only one song (the song being covered today) where the names of the individual singers are mentioned in Geet Kosh. And they are Asha Bhonsle, Ismail Azad Qawwal and Party. However in the foot note Geet Kosh mentions that this Qawwaalee song was sung by Shakila Bano Bhopali, Ismail Azad Qawwaal and Party in the film.
Editor’s note:-This obscure movie “Shareef Daaku”(1960) should not be confused with another obscure movie “Gentleman Daaku”(1960) which was also released in the same year.
