“Raat Aur Din”(1967) was produced by Jaffer Hussain and directed by Satyen Bose. This movie had actors like Nargis,Pradeep Kumar, Feroz Khan, Harin Chattopadhyaya, K. N. Singh, Anwar, Anoop Kumar, Naaz, Leela Misra, Laxmi Chhaaya etc in it.

Among poor section of society, especially in rural areas, being a policeman is the ultimate dream of unemployed youths. They want to become policemen because to them policeman symbolises unlimited power and authority, which enables them to bully and harass ordinary public. Whenever there are recruitments for policemen there are thousands of aspirants for a limited number of posts. And all these aspirants look dreamy eyed at the policeman and wish- “Only if I can somehow become a policeman. Then see what I will do.” I have actually heard a desperate aspirant utter such words in a police recruitment drive. 🙂

“Jogan” (1950) was a Ranjit Movietone movie which was a big risk taken by Chandulal Shah, the producer, since the theme of the movie as envisaged by him was regarded as a recipe for disaster by leading directors like Nitin Bose and Mahesh Kaul, who refused to have anything to do with the project. Then Kidar Sharma took up the challenge and finished up the project in less than one month. This risky proposition, whose failure would have ruined Chandulal Shah financially had the movie failed, became a box office success.

“Jogan” (1950) was a movie produced by Ranjit Movietone and directed by Kidar Sharma. The story was different and was regarded as a risky proposition by the other leading directors of the time, who on listening to the one line plot (disturbing the sanyas of a jogan) refused to have anything to do with the movie. Then Kidar Sharma himself decided to take up the challenge at the encouragement of Chandulal Shah,the producer, who developed the story of the movie from the one line brief. The fact that the plot of the movie was written by Chandulal Shah was not known for half a century since Chandulal Shah had refused to take the credits.
